  1. A good point there MacWatt. Falkirk failed badly in the league last year considering their resources compared to ours . In fact , I think they had a zero goal difference which tells its own story entirely without anyone having to comment . Falkirk should always finish above us but not so sure that's a given now.
  2. I don't know their player budget last season but do know that it would be the largest ( in League 1) and that they failed. Morton made very heavy weather of it last season as well for a supposed superior FT team. We didn't !
  3. Dunfermline were by far the biggest team in League 1 last season as well and I imagine their player budget dwarfed the others.
  4. I was amazed that Dunfermline have been so bad in the last few years. As soon as they got it right again - and this season they will- their natural size will propel them up the laddder. I have quite a few quid on them to win the league and I am counting it already ! ------ As for Fowler, he will leave us the very next chance a bigger team comes calling ,especially if that team is Kilmarnock.
  5. Well overdue Cammy , well overdue. The most gifted player I have seen since watching from 1978 onwards and a great goalscorer. Have to say that I am delighted that Lyle has been automatically inducted. An inspirational club legend now - officially - and still has a bit more yet
  6. There was all sorts in the build up to the Hibs v Rangers game including fans features and ball skills by the players, Well done and as you say, lessons could be learned from them .
  7. Queens are - unlucky for some - number 13 in today's petrofac draw. Some may dismiss this cup out of hand but we could get a tasty tie in the regionalised draw . The sponsors put a great deal in promoting it as well as a quick look at the petro cup twitter site will confirm.
  8. I don't have a clue who you mean ? Can you be more specific ?
  9. Paton will stroll League 1 and contribute a lot to the Pars winning the title. Geniunely a very talented player .He will get a split second more to play the ball and that will make all the difference . His problem is that when he was up against tenacious full time players he was quite often not as ' up for it' as his opponents.
  10. The line in the song about us not being the best or not winning every week maybe was true at the time of writing but its obviously not relevant now . That is seen as we blow every fucker out of sight now.
  11. Was talking about Jamie today . He was brought in on loan by McCall - at Queens - and played a big part in keeping us up when things looked lost. I seen a stat recently about how many senior appearances he had played in the last 6 years or so and it wasn't that many. Big man's injuries have reduced him greatly but let's hope he gets a couple of years injury free at the least.
  12. Seen Harris in his early days at Hibs and remember thinking what a fucking player he was. At the forefront of many sweeping , attacking moves. Shame that he has went backward but I would like to think he is young enough to come back. Almost glides over the pitch and our one would suit him.
  13. Good post, my thoughts entirely . Give the young guy game time and let's see what happens.
  14. thank God for that . Another non scoring forward moves on. Hugely difficult position for a team like ourselves to improve on but a quick look at Guy's and Gross's playing stats -goals gives you a very good indication of what you will get and it wasn't much. Time for a Gavin Reilly style elevation for Aidan Smith would be nice .
  15. I am with you there . No way someone like that should be playing for - no disrespect - Berwick . Would do a job here.
  16. Surely no one carrying this much bulk can do themselves justice in full time football. I haven't seen him play , only this photograph and I want us to stay clear.
  17. Great work John, I was impressed when you layed out exactly what the trust have been up to. Well worth joining and proper Queens people carrying out the tasks.
  18. Dobbie was almost from another era with his skills . Growing up and watching QoS in the 70's, there was always an opposition player with well above average skills in what seemed like every team. A real danger man that you had to look out for. Christ, even the likes of East Fife had some genuine performers who would hurt you given half a chance . As time went on , and skill levels in the country went down, it was not so obvious who would cause you damage as teams concentrated on collective effort rather than from an individual. Dobbie , as I said, was rare in this respect to have this ability - in the second tier- in this day and age. --------Rowan Alexander was a real star in the late 70's early 80's , a tremendous goalscorer who I won't ever forget. Probably his Gretna association lessened the fondness that QoS fans had for him . Shame that , great player for us.
  19. I can understand the comparison you have put . Two club greats that should be remembered for what they were without saying one over another. I think it's always fascinating to compare players from different era's. The fact that my favourite players are from the late70's/ early 80's reinforces my own thoughts in being more influenced by individual players in my younger years. This despite QoS teams in the last ten years being far superior to teams back then. Ps still have Alan Davidson on a pedestal as greatest keeper ever and along with JR that won't ever change either
  20. I would always give a wry smile when I heard older Queens fans wax lyrical about the ' great' 70's side . Yes, there were some good players and characters that left a strong imprint on the minds of QoS fans of a certain age . Undoubtedly , there were some great Cup results BUT the 70's side never once won more league games than they lost as a First Division side and even went nearly two years in failing to win an away game . In fact , the away game duck was only broken after relegation as I remember.
  21. I think there is a tendency to look back on your impressionable ie young years through a rose tinted glow. I agree there were some outstanding individuals in the 70's / 80's but really the standard is far higher now . Tommy Bryce , Ted McMinn, Rowan Alexander and Jimmy Robertson were outstanding but surrounded by weak team mates at times , nullifying their impact . Robertson is still the best winger I have ever seen play for us . Far better than Danny , better than Gibson , better than anyone. A different level altogether ( when in the mood)
  22. Can't recall anything like that but you could be correct.
