The amount of time and effort spent in posting about Tam Cowan’s taste in music on here every week seems to be far greater than the time devoted to it on Off the Ball itself. Can’t say I’m a fan of the Engelbert Humperdinck/Tony Christie type stuff that he likes. And some of the old Motown/Northern Soul stuff that Stuart Cosgrove clearly loves doesn’t do much for me either. But so what ?.....that’s their taste. And a relatively small portion of each show is given over to their musical tastes.

Your explanation there puts quite a different slant on it , compared to your original statement which was simply that he made a complete pig's ear of the substitutions. Which , to me, implies that you think that either he took off the wrong players or that he should've put on different subs. However , I doubt if there were many fans with these complaints at the time. And not many complaints about the team selection at half-time when , even though we hadn't played well we had pretty much controlled the game and were 1-nil up. And , in any event , even if there hadn't been so many changes , the nucleus of our seemingly strongest XI went on to demonstrate many times throughout the season that they were perfectly capable of losing matches. I'm not sure it's fair to call the substitutions a sign of panic , given that it was only roughly midway through the second half and it was 1-1 at the time. And substitutions don't have to be tactical. On that occasion it was more a case of taking off players who were having a poor game and replacing them with ones who would hopefully, perform similar roles , but better. And the fact that Raith scored about a minute after the substitutions wasn't really down to the changes but rather due simply to Gurr's failure to complete what should've been a straightforward clearance. We lost that tie because we fell right out of the game in the second-half ....not because of the substitutions.
