The Falkirk FC Thread
HopeStreetWalker replied to Kris.'s topic in Scottish League 1 General Chatter
Was there when the famous Big Bar 1970 odd John Waynesk bar room brawl took place ending with a shotgun being fired into the ceiing and mass arrests. One of the funniest and bizarre things I ever saw it had everything. Hay baling punches, chairs over peoples backs, folk getting thrown over tables of drinks, pool cues used a javelins and pool balls used as ballistics. Understandably, was put off ever going back. Anybody else on the forum remember that? -

Isn't the TV money pooled for distribution to all the leagues teams? -

The club was originally called Falkirk Football and Athletic Club' It would be no bad thing to have a long term aim to return to that ethos and be a club encompassing sports in the Falkirk district. The wider reach the club has in the community the better whatever the sport. No better focal point to go in that direction than having womans football in house. -

Remember that lot - were not liked in particular when they started the sectarian nonsense and got well telt for it. Used to hang about the Big Bar in Bainsford. -

It's looking good. Unbeaten in the league, 17 points ahead, 15 goals lost, 11 games to go but we ain't over the line. Would take a collapse that would put the support on therapy for years for us not to go up. But as the old Falkirk Motto through bitter experience says 'Expect the unexpected, follow the Falkirk Bairns' So lets get championship won by staying lean and mean. -

St Mirren fans would be the ones to answer. Of all the Glasgow / West coast sides mines Partick Thistle. On reflection train through to Glasgow for agood day and evening out - good local pubs - good crack with their supporters and in all my years not one bit of bother. -

It's putting in place a solid spine of a side and something that has been lacking and pointed out often enough. That can only be good for the new players integrating themselves into the squad. Lets hope it is a nice problem upgrading to cope with promotion. -

Exactly! there is a 1/3rd of the season to go and have 60 odd years of witnessing Falkirk collapses. We are in a good place - nearly there and for the want of waiting a further 6 - 8 games then the bumming and piss takes will be all the more enjoyable. -

Promoted or not, should we sign Scott Arfield? or would funds be better spent elsewhere. It would be great if Scott was to end his career where it all started, but we can't afford to be sentimental. Where would he fit in the team? Potential coaching position? It's a hard call but what experience and contacts he could bring to the club. -

Ultra's most likely the Grand children of the 'Falkirk Choir' from the Brockville days with a sprinkling of the seed of the groin and womb from the 'Houstie Hard Core' -

The hard bit is the judgement if the top performers of the previous season can cut it in the higher league over a season. Get that wrong then crucial positional shortcomings cripple the season . Bomber Brown and John Hay were an impressive centre back pairing in the 70's but just did not cut it in a higher league. Think people will be surprised at who is moved on. It will be interesting but in the end it will be a nice problem as it's rejigging a promoted side. Here's hoping -

That is a situation where you have team instructions to nullify that weakness. Double bank, press to cut out that killer pass. McCann has far more positives than negatives and I hope he stays. -

It's put to bed when we have the points to be champions - not before. Seen too many collapses over the decades to think otherwise. It will make that moment of deliverance all the more enjoyable. We are in a good position and its been hard won, so let's beat Hamilton and take it from there. -

It's a vote of confidence and welcome continuity (god help him if we don't get promoted though) Will be a plus for any player recruitment that could be the difference between getting a player or not. Would be wise to see if a seamless successor process can be put in place during the next 2 seasons -

No need for another stand to mirror the existing infrastructure for no other reason it looks ascetically pleasing. The most cost-effective, cheapest structure should be the one we go for and the simpler the better. Hardcore banking, Concreted stepped layout for mixed terracing, seating. 15 rows deep, Toilets, Turnstiles, Catering behind. -

Mid - High teens due to the league we are in, the past 5 seasons of mediocrity and inept stewardship and not one physical asset to offer as collateral for the best lending terms should we have to borrow. -

The 'Ultra' tag comes with baggage and a pre-conceived image and perception Falkirk choir, Simon Stainrods Barmy army, Houstie hardcore were names given by the fans themselves and all the better for it.
