  1. Beat them 3-1 at Murrayfield and then drew 2-2 in Braga. Braga finished 7 points off top place that season.
  2. Since 1990, Celtic, Rangers and Hearts have faced Portuguese clubs in Euro competition on 26 occasions. Clubs are Sporting, Benfica, Porto, Boavista, Braga. Guimaraes & Maritimo, the record reads 12 wins, 6 draws and 9 defeats. I’d says that’s fairly good against a league that is supposedly miles ahead. http://www.eurocupshistory.com/match/confrontation/POR-SCO/portugal_against_scotland_in_uefa_club_competitions As I said earlier, I’ve watched a wee bit of Portuguese fitba in the flesh, Benfica, Sporting, Estoril, Belenenses and some lower league stuff. I’m basing my view on what I’ve seen and its just my opinion that its not much better than SPFL domestically although as I said, they do seem to deal with Euro comps a lot better. Anyway, here's hoping Gauld comes good second half of the season and we can be talking about him at Sporting next season.
  3. Comparable I'd say. You know as well as I do that British players have an aversion to moving anywhere, and given the crowds in the Portuguese league (outwith the top 3 and maybe Braga and Boavista) I doubt their salaries dwarf the Particks of this world. The game I was at in Estoril last season had barely 1,000 watching, Belenenses barely 2,500. The league is very lopsided and dominated by a small handful of clubs, like Scotland.
  4. It's not, try watching it before coming out with stuff like that. Maybe Sporting, Benfica and Porto would be of a higher standard than anyone outwith Celtic currently, but the other 15 clubs are mostly very average. Estoril, Belenenses, Aves, Tondela, Portimonense etc would struggle in our Premiership.
  5. Really? I've watched a decent chunk of it and been to a number of games over there. It really isn't. I'd fancy Partick in a game against Aves.
  6. Was told by a friend, who's team won one of the SWFL2 regional divisions, that on the day they won the league there was nobody there from SWF despite it being almost certain they would win and the league trophy was posted to them. How bad is that?
  7. He's playing for the equivalent of Partick Thistle in a league of comparable standard. Let's not get too excited.
  8. Have a Google, Stuttgart remodelled both ends at a cost of around €60m, the roof was left in place whilst the curved ends below were demolished and rebuilt square. Not exactly Hampden but a good example of what can be done, and for £60m that would be decent value to bring Hampden upto 21st century standards. Oriam cost £33m.
  9. How about Regan, Doncaster, Tom Johnstone etc sit round a table with a blank sheet of paper and jot down what they think the Pyramid should look like below the SPFL., with no preconceptions or bias, and then work out how to get there. This botch job has been caused by too much self interest.
  10. This myth about moving games round the country needs burying. Yes, for low key friendlies (of which there will be very few once the Nations League starts), but otherwise Scotland qualifiers always draw crowds well in excess of the capacities of club grounds outwith Ibrox and Parkhead.
  11. Been done at both Stuttgart and Bremen, both stadiums of similar design to Hampden and been squared off. Stuttgart cost €50-€70m to re-model.
  12. Some of these licenced clubs in the EOS and SOS dont want to be in the Lowland League, they have a licence to enter the Scottish Cup thats it. There wont be many clubs to leapfrog as another poster claims. Sure give them the chance to join a new set-up but I dont see Glasgow University or Newton Stewart rushing to join a West Lowland League as they know they would be completely out of their depth.
  13. Allow all Junior clubs a 12-18 month grace period to obtain a licence and play in a Lowland League West and East set-up for those interested straight away. Ask for applications to fill the vacancies, with priority given on whether licence application already underway, and on league position. Highest ranked club with a licence in each division enter 4-way play off with Highland and bottom SPFL club.
  14. They seem to think they have a membership of 71,000 Scottish fitba fans. Really?
  15. He got 12 minutes. He should have stayed at RB Leipzig.
  16. Aye I used to read that although some of his ideas were barking mad.
  17. If the SFA are the governing body of the sport in Scotland then surely they have the power to run it the way they see fit, which means ability to abolish surrogate associations.
  18. Publicity stunt. They dont have any fans. They cant even get their facts right on the website linked above, spot the obvious mistake "The Edusport Academy now has bases in Glasgow & Edinburgh, with teams competing in both the South of Scotland and the Lowland U20 Leagues respectively."
  19. Out of interest how many clubs can sell enough advertising to keep them afloat let along to give the money away? I ken its a tough job getting people to advertise and sponsor clubs at any level.
  20. As the Chicago Tribune alludes to, Trump is becoming increasingly unhinged. How long can he be left to bash on without his sanity being called into question. It's incredible to observe.
  21. Think the lad has been poorly treated by Sporting, he was getting into a bit of form at Vitoria Setubal before the toys were chucked out the pram and he was the victim. I don't think he'll be a Sporting much longer, he'll either be released to sign for a lesser Portuguese club, or head back home.
  22. A non-league day like they have in England is a cracking idea.,I think they do it when its International weekend and EPL isn't playing. They dont have the problem of leagues that look after themselves though with different agendas.
  23. I think your circumstances are almost unique in Junior fitba to be fair.
  24. Were the burds at security throwing themselves at him as a result? if not the adverts are pure lies and should be reported!
