  1. MacKinnon definitely gives us grit (and, weirdly, intelligence) in midfield and as such, is certainly not done. Graham is a big upgrade on Kenny Miller. Overall we look OK now and McCall has obviously recruited well to get most of Caldwell (and Archibald)'s dreadful non-footballers to f*ck, but given that we're still rock bottom having played the most games, escaping the bottom two places will be a pretty close-run thing if we manage it. Can imagine us facing Falkirk in a play-off between the last two seasons' two most over-financed, under-delivering, chaotic laughing stocks. After all these years, I still hate Scott Fox. There's no need for opposition teams to even take their penalties - just go straight to the centre circle and kick off the game again.
  2. The main reason was that we didn't have anyone else. Recruitment in summer 2018 was absolutely terrible, leaving us so short of players we couldn't fill the bench - and then O'Ware quickly got injured for the rest of the season. So, McGinty played every week. As others have mentioned, he had a small upturn in form towards the end of the season (from 0/10 to 2.5/10) which kept him in the team at the start of this season, especially as Caldwell had spunked so much cash on his pal Kenny. ETA - what Armand 2 just said...
  3. Tried fairly hard, did lots of pointing, scored some goals but missed loads of chances too. Was obviously being paid far too much money. Quite odd to see him sitting in his white blazer on the Sportscene sofa punditting his own miss in the cup. Scottish football eating itself there.
  4. While there is no doubt some rewriting of history going on here (with Low's usual PR disaster paw prints all over it), I would question whether the week of his funeral is the time to be embarking on a rant about how much of a fan CW was. It's also very possible that he went to games in his youth, with people who don't post on this particular forum where you are demanding answers, then became a more passive fan who only made it to Firhill occasionally - but who still regarded himself as a fan. Why does it matter? "Far less than 5% of his wealth" sounds extremely sour-faced and ungrateful when talking about someone who has put millions into the club. He didn't need to do that. If anyone else out there also wants to put a few million quid into Thistle, they can photoshop themselves into photos of the 1971 League Cup final and put them on the covers of match programmes for all I care. I share the concerns of many about what exactly is happening with 3BC from here on in, but I would suggest that maybe it's Paul Goodwin that needs to be scrutinised in terms of his motivations and claims to be a Jags fan, not our recently deceased benefactor who has undoubtedly helped us out in a big way in recent years.
  5. They weren't "inexplicably dreadful" - we had managed Top 6 (a fantastic achievement regardless of our steep decline since) and therefore our final five games were against the top 5 teams in the country. Archibald's strengths never included getting results against bigger teams (or ever daring to set up to give them a good game), and from memory, the players also just looked tired. Hence, 5 meek pumpings. We then let Lindsay go that summer for a song and never replaced him, so we went from having a fairly solid defence with the added bonus of goals being contributed by a young star defender, to the shambles we've had since.
  6. Did anyone ask Paul Goodwin why he thinks there is a demand/urgent need for fan ownership (I haven't seen any evidence of either), and/or why he's the best man to lead it? It looks like he has rocked up, schmoozed Weir/Low, and concocted a scheme placing himself at the centre (with resultant PR) which makes huge changes to our club. The benefits to the fans, who ultimately will no doubt be required to pay more to fund the club, remain pretty mysterious. Given the choice between the now-lapsed Chien Lee takeover/feeder club path and a chancer like Paul Goodwin organising a fan-owned model based on hiring out the Aitken suite more often, I'd almost certainly have plumped for the former.
  7. From memory that was Titov, aptly named as he was off his tits on performance enhancing drugs...
  8. If our qualification hopes die, they die.
  9. Enjoyed the moment when "Biscuits" was whining about having seen Livi four times recently, to which someone asked: is that more times than when you managed them? Not only is he a terrible pundit, he's also an abject failure who has a brass neck in criticising any manager.
  10. Given what a shambles we have been both on and off the park this season, it's encouraging that we're off the bottom and only a point behind Morten (albeit having played a game more). If McCall can improve us in January (there is too much dross to transform us completely) then who knows, maybe we won't be in the third tier next season after all. Before yesterday's game I fully expected us to be adrift by the end of the year. That was a really important (and unlikely) win.
  11. Yes, it was pretty obvious that she was lurking in the background as Colin Weir's pal/PR supremo/HR enforcer. I'll be worried if she is in any way involved after 30 March next year, because if I understand this correctly, Weir's company should step away completely at that point. One name which is conspicuously absent from this press release is Paul Goodwin. It's a blow that the training ground plans have definitely been abandoned. Maybe it's just me but I don't really understand why Colin Weir chose to buy the club to hand to the fans (I am not aware of any great groundswell of demand or urgent need for fan ownership) rather than contributing something as practical as a new training ground. Overall, despite the attempt at positive PR spin here, this Q&A doesn't tell us much and for some reason I feel more suspicious now than I did before reading it.
  12. Agree with this. When we rightly (albeit belatedly) binned Archibald last season, I did think he had been unlucky to sign O'Ware, who at the time looked like a surprisingly good acquisition to build our defence around, only to lose him for the season almost straight away. Either that was a big overestimation (possible), or O'Ware's long-term injury has finished him - either way he's utter shite now he's back playing. I wonder what Archibald has brought to defensive training since he was brought back in? Yesterday was very late period Archibald in its disorganisation and dismal lack of any fight whatsoever. I'm absolutely dreading every single game atm. McCall's a good coach and talent spotter but he's got far, far too much to do to turn this around unless he lucks out with someone as good as Scott McDonald in Jan (obvously not going to happen). Quite simply we need a new team, and as you say, only an Uncle Roy "OK, I'll just get a new team in January" would have a hope. Remember that time we scudded Dunfermline 5-1 on the way to promotion as a young, hungry team playing dynamic football and scoring fantastic goals? That seems like a hundred years ago now.
  13. Looking for a captain's performance from O'Ware to lead us to a crucial away w..... oh.
  14. We could have done with the 50/50 luck of a home final, assuming we get past Israel (we could easily f*ck that up anyway, obvs). Typical.
  15. Bell (much, much worse than Stuckmann, because Bell was signed as our 1st choice) Nitriansky, Devine, Piccolo (swoon), Carroll Ntambwe (the worst player I have ever seen), Barton, Woods, Osman (for his pathetic final 6 months with us as captain/hat salesman). Storey, Mutombo
  16. If she was good at running a football club (e.g. hiring competent, non-egomaniac managers) and/or knew how to do PR which didn't enrage and patronise fans, she might be an asset - it doesn't matter what her political views are. Unfortunately her time on the board was a complete disaster and she should have the nous to recognise that.
  17. On the face of it this is probably good news as it gives us a semblance of stability (in not becoming a feeder club for Barnsley), and brings the stadium/land back into the club's control. I would also expect Colin Weir to restart the training ground plans. My main worry is in some of the personnel - 1) that a proven incompetent in Jacqui Low is once again lurking, despite her shit-stirring in running to the press and deliberately painting the club in a bad light only a few months ago when she was punted from the board. Possibly her negative contribution can be minimised if this "PR supremo" is kept well away from any PR work... 2) that Lifelong Thistle Superfan Paul Goodwin might also be looking to use us to gain personal publicity and press coverage for his stupid ideas, which he has past form in at Stirling before scuttling away and calling them ungrateful.
  18. Richard Gordon just apologised to Austin MacPhee for the "tone and lack of balance" in Sportsound's discussion of the Hearts job last weekend (13:42 today). It was brief, but a nice surprise that the BBC realised this was necessary. Maybe they've sacked "Biscuits" for good measure?
  19. Richard Gordon is a beacon of calm competence among a rabble of frothing idiots on Sportsound. It's nonsense to suggest he is an enabler or a sycophant. I never thought I would detest any sport broadcaster more than the apparently non-retired Chick Young, but "Biscuits" is running him close these days. Almost everything he says demonstrates that he's thick as mince, and he obviously has a huge agenda as an agent. The MacPhee stuff was really bad. All topped off by having a voice which is somehow even more annoying than Chick's.
  20. That would be funny, but is anyone at this level even remotely likely to hire him given that he's an obvious egomaniac and abject failure, and just petulantly stated that he doesn't understand how championship players think, because he was better than them in his career? Gary may have talked himself into a corner here, as he's not going to get a top-tier job (or the Scotland job). We may never see him working his magic in management again - what a wee shame that would be.
  21. Brazil 82 & 86 were a terrific side. Zico, Socrates, Careca, Alemao, Junior, etc. The QF against France in 86 was pretty memorable...
  22. I wonder if the statement "I'm far more qualified to manage Scotland than Partick Thistle because I have no idea how championship players think" was part of the powerpoint presentation that dazzled our old chairman? I'm guessing it wasn't. For once, a midweek Sportsound with "Kenny mac" was worth listening to. Caldwell has a few lines he likes to repeat, including the claim that the current team are good enough to challenge for promotion. If they are, Gary, then your management must have been the factor that left them bottom rather than near the top. Surprised and delighted to hear "Kenny mac" challenge some of Gary's more far-fetched claims, to tell him lots of players hated him, and to read out some representative fan opinions of his shambles of a tenure. Entertaining stuff.
