Looking forward to this, not been to a game since the 3rd December. Our last home game against Peterhead was so stupidly wasteful. Hopefully this week is better.

Are Peterhead looking any better after a pretty turbulent January in terms of players moving on and the new manager getting settled in?

PD do look a bit better with quite a few new signings and more on the way, but it wont be an instant turn around.

The last two performances......albeit a draw and a defeat......were much better than what we've witnessed the rest of the season, but I cant see anything other than a home win. A draw at best for us.

IF we could score a goal it would help!

Unless you implode like the last game at EEP.

Big Not the finest game of football I've seen !!!

Could still be playing and it would still be 0-0. There was no clear cut chance at all in the game. Thought Mo were slightly the better team second half but, as said, never really looked like scoring. We haven't won in 7 games now and look like we've lost a lot of self-belief.  Time for some hard work SP.

From the opposite end it looked like our keeper had 2 good saves 2nd half.

For us, the 2 good chances fell to Wilkie. First half one he simply took too much time to get the shot away and 2nd half when he broke clear he put it past the post when maybe he should've rolled it across for the incoming player.

But a draw was about right on the day. Pity it wasnt 2-2 instead of 0-0!

Rory still getting daft bookings. Some things never change.

Not a great game, that. Peterhead looked better today than they did in the first game at Balmoor, and did create some chances, but still think they're in dire straits league-wise. We didn't do enough to win the game simply, and it's knocking on two months without one now. Some January activity needed: rightback and midfield a must, possibly even a striker, or we can forget the top 4.

We are in dire straits league wise as you say, but we are simply looking to improve on a disastrous first half of the season.

Realistically, all we can do is put pressure on Clyde for the play off place. Anything else would be a plus.

  4. New guys made a difference.  Caused a team more problems in 45 minutes than we've done all season.

To be fair to Montrose they were the better team in the 2nd half.

Early days , but with more signings in the pipeline it can only really be in the upward direction.

More hopeful of a better second half to the season.

I have to say that your boys were pretty poor today. Your number 9 did himself no favours, effing and jeffing at his own centre back, booting a ball out of the ground when not getting the throw in his way, and then getting red carded for a potential leg breaker on Callum Crane in injury time.

He's been out for nearly a year after an operation. Some comeback.

He doesnt want to be at PFC, but it appears no one else wants him.

He was told Peterhead would listen to offers ,but few ( if any) were made. That was under McInally. It may have changed under Robertson. I dont know.

I feel that is a bit harsh but I agree that fortunes have changed since the heady days when the Blue Toon were League Two’s big spenders. The rise of Cove and other teams in the north east like Formartine, may be the reason for Peterhead’s declining fortunes of late. Jim McInally has been there such a long time and isn’t a bad manager but perhaps like during Heggarty’s time at the Mo. perhaps his age means he may no longer  have the contacts to get  better players in.
Not sure if changing managers is going to make much difference if other teams in the area continue to be more attractive options for part-time players.

What do Bluetooners think is best way forward to get their club out of the doldrums?

On speaking with a member of the PFC heirarchy he said it wasnt Formartine or any of the HFL clubs that limit the spending power of PFC(though he admitted Cove do have cash to throw around and it's something we have to live with).

It's the money floating around the Lowland League.

He said one player contacted asked for the best  PFC could offer. He was given the figures and basically said he could treble his money with at least half a dozen LL clubs.

Peterhead has become the very thing I feared. A yo yo club like so many others. Farting around the lower leagues with a promotion ( or relegation) every so often to excite the fans.

    Complete shambles is an understatement.

Cruised the whole game without ever actually looking that threatening. Got the two goals, game over.....

What's the deal with Hamilton? Is he carrying a knock? Surely having him deep, Todd running around like a dafty, and Mochrie providing creativity is an absolute no brainer as a starting three?

Mehmet was in no man's land for the equaliser but fair play to the big man getting his head to it.

Referee was another shocker. Getting tedious going away from games thinking that. Just so many basic things wrong.

The refereeing thing is what it is.

Our top refs are hellish, so dont expect the guys doing the lower leagues to be anything other than decent(on occasion) to mediocre on a regular basis.

Is the rise of Cove to the detriment or Peterhead signing players in the NE?

    Possibly.

Cove did have quite a few ex Peterhead players, not sure about this season.

Iirc they've signed a few ex SPL guys. Reynolds, Fyvie, Vigurs. Probably more I cant think of.

Is that right? What has happened over the last couple years?

Honestly? Not a clue as to what's going on behind the scenes.

    But,

On the playing front we lost a massive part of our squad for this season.

Scott Brown, Si Ferry, Grant Savoury, Ryan Conroy, Gary Fraser, Brett Long, Alan Cook,Rico Quitongo, plus the loanees Josh Mulligan , Flynn Duffy, Ryan Duncan, Lyall Cameron. Plus long term injuries to Hamish Ritchie & Andy McCarthy and injuries to a few more new guys we've barely seen play.

There are new signings awaiting clearance.  Whether those, plus a fit Ritchie and McCarthy will make us more competitive? It should do.

It's only 7 games into the league season so there's plenty time to improve the situation.

Crazy to think we are garbage, yet only 7 points off a play off place!

How's that for a 'glass half full' comment' ?

    Yikes!

Hope we absolutely pump you mind. Noticed Dow wasn't in your squad today; is he injured?

Could be. Plenty others injured so he could be another to add to the list. Not that hes been setting the heather on fire.

He should be more noticeable in the present side because its pretty crap.

Maybe hes been dragged down . Who knows.

    4th. Paton got the 3rd.

Said earlier I thought he should have saved it. It was wall side but it wasnt hit very hard and actually bounced inside the 6 yard box before it went in. Looked like he had plenty time to get over to it.

Thats said he otherwise did well. Hadnt a prayer with 1st and 3rd and whilst I wasnt in line with it presumably not the 2nd either. He made a great save from Reilly's header at 1-0 up and caught crosses securely all day.

Ah. I was heading out the gate when that one went in.........

In the lads defence , hes 19, playing behind the worst defence I can remember us having since we joined the SPFL.

And, hes saved us from a few hammerings in the handful of games hes played.

Well done to QoS.  The gap in quality was so visible today.

We have no shape and our defending is woeful.  As much as our keeper has been brilliant so far this year, he surely has to be disappointed with the goal direct from the free kick.   It wasn't that powerfully hit but poor positioning seen him fail to get across to keep it out.

Some of the QoS passing today was really good and once Todd scored, he ran the game for the next 30/40 mins before the subs changed the shape of the game.

Looked like a few injuries for both teams today but hopefully nothing major.

Which goal was from the direct free kick?
