Yesterday was a hugely frustrating one and, on the balance of play, we probably deserved a draw. But Peterhead played us at our own game. We're a good counter attacking team, but the early goal allowed them to sit in and then hit us on the break - and with Frizzell realistically our only outright creative force we couldn't find a way through.

As BSF says though (and Duffy said post-match) we absolutely needed to be testing their keeper more often. We seem scared to have a pop from outside the box - and Frizzell is especially guilty of that. He needs to be a bit more selfish and not be afraid to have a few digs like he did against Clyde.

I also wasn't sure about Duffy's subs. Wilson wasn't looking as sharp as he had done in previous weeks, but he was still a threat - and the same goes for Frizzell. We look a really decent team when we get the ball on the ground and attack teams with pace, but far too often we flick into lazy long ball mode. And that leaves them feeding off scraps.

Wedderburn was on a booking, so I can sort of understand why we hooked him, but he was the only person linking the defence and the attack with passes, rather than hoofs that bypassed them. Bringing on Jones and Johnstone (who really don't work together) saw us flick from 70% long balls to 100% long balls, and low and behold between the two of them they threatened once in 20 odd minutes on the park.

On the more positive side, Sam Wardrop had another good game and is looking a serious threat going forward, so that's great to see. Hopefully he can continue to build-up gametime and get through the campaign injury free. Wee Chris Hamilton had a good game yesterday too, it doesn't matter where we put him he always adapts well and you'd never know he was a centre-half by trade.

We've now got a really tough run of games coming up, haven't scored in our last three and lost our last four in-a-row (conceding in the first 20 minutes of all of them). If we can keep things tight and hit Falkirk, Thistle and Cove on the break then we might have a chance given that suits our way of playing. But at the moment it's difficult to see us getting anything from those matches.

Fair play to Peterhead though. They were down to bare bones but were well organised, solid and created a handful of decent chances. Given their squad situation that was a smashing result for you guys.

A fair summary. A draw would've been a fair result, but I think ourselves and The Sons are in our rightful positions and will probably be happy to stay in this league at seasons end.

Underwhelmed by Danny's post match comments.

'The first half was even' yep Danny, but as we had a gail behind us and we managed 1 (one long range header)-attempt on target, it meant that we started the 2nd half in deficit.

'Anyone who watches Clyde know how we play and how to counteract that'  and 'Peterhead come here and we know how they're going to play' So Danny, we're too easy to stop and we don't have the guile to unpick a threadbare Peterhead. Is that 9 points we need to kiss goodbye

'Last week's match being off upset our rhythm'  It seem to impact on Dumbarton too much.

Some of the squad need to mature and quickly, if we are to survive...and not just in this division imho.

    She wasnt pushing hard enough.......

    very sad but not unexpected,

no reason why a limited amount of fans cant be allowed back to any leagues games. we could easily hold a min 500 spectators.

lets get started with home fans only allowed in, negate any travelling issues.

Surely it is easier to have fans of lower league clubs abide by social distancing rules when the average crowd is in the hundreds.

As toon 68 says , home fans only would be a start. Give the clubs much needed revenue. PFC average around 600 bodies per match(. Take off visiting fans it's probably around 550 home fans.

At Balmoor theres 1000 seats across the 2 stands. Seat 100 in each stand it leaves plenty standing area for another 300-400 souls to stand in the ground.

Wont be much different for other grounds I would imagine. If fans use common sense it must be possible. Face covering and social distancing can be adhered to.

The McAllister signing does look like it was almost entirely for patter purposes, which I am very much on board with.

I tried telling a Cove fan on twitter that he really wasn't all that anymore when they signed him and he immediately started with the insults. Let me tell you, I'll have the last laugh when Cove release McAllister after he's hoovered about a million pounds off them and scored 15 goals.

    15 goals?

    How long is his contract?

You are the master of understatement.

I thought your team were excellent today, and we were not even close to being as good as crap.

Like our game against Livi, the only team that played any decent football today were not wearing Tangerine & Black.

For the (few) players, given a start today looking to stake a claim for a start against Aberdeen; how do you think it went?

Fair play to the Blue Toon. Beautifully taken goal, which was well deserved based on balance of play, and as I mentioned in my post, we were lucky not to lose by more...

Just pissed off that they eventually got the stream working as I ended up wasting 70 minutes of my life watching that turgid shite, when I could have been painting a fence or something.

Betfred is as good as fucked imo, and we need to hope our new boys bring something special in the weeks ahead, and focus on  staying mid table, which is about as good as we could possibly hope for this season I think.

Thanks for that. Maybe our season could be better than fighting relegation.

I though Utd had started the season reasonably well with a few decent results?

Played off the fucking park by a mid table League 1 team, playing their first competitive game in 7 months.

Dominated in possession and barely registered a shot on goal, and lucky it wasn’t more than 0-1

That lot need to take a right good look at themselves.

    Absolutely fucking rancid......

Mid table? Before the season began I was thinking if we could finish 8th , I would be chuffed.

I did try to watch the game today but gave up after 15 minutes of a screen with the club badges on, thinking it was my fu*I up.

I'm assuming PD played well, mixed in with Utd being crap?

Can’t believe I just read he was travelling from Annan to Peterhead.

    Thanks for the reply.

He wasnt alone. Willie Gibson was doing the trip with him (until he moved on , obviously). IIRC there was another player from near the borders making the trip too.

Anyway. A decent, solid goalie. Good signing for Stranraer.

Haud on a minute. What the f**k is a carpet shop doing open in the middle of a pandemic ?
No chance of a pint, places running on a skeleton service, yet you can pop down and pick up a shag pile for your hallway ?

    No pandemic in the 70s

    'Course there was.

Jimmy Saville to name but one.

Wasn't it that he was a bully? The Rangers felt so bullied by Doncaster that they had one of their board members repeatedly threaten him, to the point that the SPFL board started looking at taking legal action.

I'm not sure they know what that word actually means.

Thanks for that. Didnt miss much then?

    Usual shit from them.

    Bump

    Should that not be "thud'?

It appears her club are in the shit(once more), and the only way out is to screw about with league numbers.

As for the offer of £2million split between 42 clubs? Really?

Be honest Ms Budge, this whole episode of supposed philanthropy is for one thing and one thing only.

If your club had been 11th ,you would have kept schtum.

I keep hearing of players having to take a pay cut. My question is how much ? The financials of playing behind closed doors won’t cover those already on the books. Even under limited crowds there won’t be much left over.  There isn’t much of a gap between what players currently earn and what you can live off without another job, we can’t just slash wages and carry on.

I get what you're saying and that is why U20 players may be de rigueur for some clubs for quite a while. I was looking more at full time pros with clubs such as Partick, QotS, ICT etc.

Part time players not so much.

And if it comes to cutting wages or the club going bust?

  13. 9 hours ago, parsforlife said:

I guess our number is main,y u20 players and I would guess that would be the same for others.

by my count we have 5 first team players signed up.  Dow, nisbet, Murray, Martin and lang(though he hasn’t made any first team appearances apart from the diddy cup which barely counts. Cromrie might have triggered his extension.

It could be some clubs may have to rely on U20 players for quite a while.

Experienced players outside the SPL may have to lower their financial expectations in order to have a job.

Forfar is a cracking wee ground and plenty of boozers nearby. No contest!

I do like Balmoor as well, fucking brilliant grass pitch there and a decent wee boozer in the ground, just a shame the town is full of **** which I just cannot understand how considering its 3 1/2 hours away from Glasgow (in a car) and they probably have the cheek to call us weegies as well. Grounds that have fans right round the pitch wins it for me. All this all in one stand efforts like airdrie, East Fife, Dumbarton, ourselves I just don't like, leads to no atmosphere.

Albeit I haven't been this season and I notice we were in the railway end which helps but I always hated Starks Park. 2 huge stands behind the goals with that daft pokey effort on the corner and the wee railway end.

Falkirks a decent stadium but like Broadwood it's far too open. St Mirren got it right with their wee stadium.

If you travel along the Moray coast you'll find infestations there too. Buses leaving for Glasgows blue side every week.

As for the best ground, it has to be Furfar.

    What a shower!

Just read a summary of a report by a respected epidemiologist in The Lancet whose view (I repeat view), is that everyone is eventually going to be infected by this virus and it will affect people in different ways from zero to death. The only advantage of lockdown is to slow this process down which it has done which means that the health service is operating at a very low capacity.

His view is that it would be better to end lockdown and speed up the infection rate and build up immunity.

He reckons that the benefits of a speedier return to economic normality and the health benefits therefrom far outweigh keepIng everyone battened down under house arrest.

I’ll leave you with a reference to an article by Toby Young who states that the biggest fear by lots of people is not the virus but coming out of furlough and going back to work.

Time we started putting pressure on the UK and Scottish governments to show a bit of grit and determination.

Personally , I would be quite happy to retake my seat in August with the usual folks next to me.

On you go. Health benefits from a killer virus? Let the science guys come up with some answers on antibody testing first.

    As for Toby Young?

    I wouldn't want that c*nt as a foreskin.

I'm not too sure about that. He got sent off against us at Falkirk and can't remember him particularly standing out in our 2 wins at Broadwood.

A view from the terrace is shite anyway so no surprise their TOTY is the same

Same can be said for many players.

Goodwillie scored a blinder of a goal at Balmoor, then had an early bath. Second game has was anonymous. So for me, he wouldn't be in TOTY. Clyde supporters are the only ones who see him on a regular, or semi regular basis. It's natural they're going to pick him.

Same with the likes of McManus,  Lyons and players from other clubs.

This kind of TOTY is completely pointless.

TBH, given our recent histories we would both likely end up back in the bottom division anyway.
Regardless, we would still only be two promotions from the Premier before and after reconstruction.

Yes, but only one relegation from the Highland League. It's a joke and it's purely to save Hearts.

That would appear to be the case.

It's quite typical of Scottish football that Ann Budge is in charge of reconstruction.

Who else would have such an unbiased view as the owner/ chairperson of the club with most to lose?
