Seen him play a few times, he’s young and most won’t have heard of him but wouldn’t expect him to play much if I’m honest

I was vaguely hopeful of another Thomas Robert by getting this guy for a season, seen as west ham were mentioned earlier in the thread!:

That said, we already have an excellent right back for this level in Kyle MacDonald

I quite like the model tbh, and hopeful that it works out. I think that it's probably rarer that someone who breaks through to a first team in their 20's is going to go on to be successful than someone good enough to get there in their teens.

I'm sure a reserve team will be revisited when the club and the football environment are in a position to do so.

Did I miss something? When were either of those claims made?

This sillyness below that was posted earlier in the thread:

but from what I hear it’s a title winning budget we have for next season

Followed by the guessing game in the last couple of pages about Laurent Robert's kid.

The reality is that we have a while to go before any games are played, and there's plenty of time to sign players. But so far from what I see we have lost some first team players, kept on a few unproven kids to pad the squad, and generally have a weaker team.

  4. I think there's a bit of need to improve in all 3 outfield areas of the squad tbh. A couple of injuries even in the best stacked area (defense) and even that would look a bit worrying.

I've no confidence in Roy up front, and don't think I've ever seen Pyott play.

Midfield is clearly getting an overhaul, so will have to wait and see on that one.

Still, theres a few months before a ball is going to get kicked.

  5. On the one hand, there could be an advantage in keeping a squad together who are familiar with each other.

On the other hand, it could mean we are missing out on a large pool of more talented players who have only been released due to clubs financial situations.

My worries for this season: need some creativity in midfield, and a big elastic band to tie to Gal to pull him back onside after every attack.

Why does McKay get all this hate and negativity towards him the lad gives his all every week and he’s a young lad and will continue to develop he’s doesn’t need negativity thrown at him it’s league 1 in Scotland we ain’t gonna attract Neymar on a free transfer!

Put simply, he needs to fight more for the ball.

Obviously I want him to do well so long as he is an Airdrie player, and of course he will develop as he has time on his side, but he has some big gaps in his game and is one of the more frustrating players to watch, especially when picked ahead of players with a more developed skillset.

The long throw got extremely tedious but I thought McKay had a good season, and he rose in my estimations throughout the season. Signed as a defender so maybe falsely thought of as a defensive midfielder, I thought he was at his best driving forward (more of an 8 than a 6)

I honestly didn't rate him much, but cant argue that he was involved in some valuable moments.

I just think that he needs to develop a bit, particularly in terms of using size to his advantage to own the ball, before I'd be comfortable with him as a first team regular.

Maybe it is how he was used in the team, but I guess we will get a chance to find that out next season

Totally depressing factoid, now that Stranrear have been relegated we enter season 2020-21 as  the only club to have remained in Scottish League Division 1 since its formation in 2013.   Seven years, three different owners, nine managers (including temporary appointments) and a whole shitload of very average players.  Very little prospect of breaking that mould in the foreseeable future, welcome to Stagnation F.C.

It's unfortunate really. A few fewer soft goals conceded at the start of each half, and the foot staying on the gas when top of the table, and we could easily have been up into the championship.

I see that Gordon Smith is the source of the article.  Is having zero credibility a pre-requisite before the Daily Record interviews someone?

They've been pulling out every contact on their list trying to get any kind of positive sentiment for the colt teams idea over the past few days, seems they have gotten as far as S so far on their contacts list, so it will go for another couple of days I suppose.
