  1. OK, but is Bogle's Green Fields of France (No Man's Land) not often shortened? Either way, those two Eric Bogle songs get to the heart of the matter
  2. Eric Bogle's Green Fields of France and The Band Played Waltzing Matilda have to be two of the finest anti-war songs ever written. I can get tears just thinking about them. Brilliant songs.
  3. Saw this story and just thought how things have changed. Bags of crisps and peanuts good enough back in the day for the munchies. Police carrying out a drugs raid on a cannabis farm in southern Italy have seized a stash of 235 frozen dormice - said to be a mafia delicacy.
  4. I thought that was a strong showing today. Really good showing from Strachan especially, Meechan solid but Slater best player on the park. Quite disappointed in Annan with a couple of squandered chances, with credit to our defence (for once) but Annan never really threatened. Munro rising above everybody to head in after a bad Lowdon foul on Thomson was good to see. Shepherd covers a lot of ground as most of the team do, but still a lot of wayward passes. Second goal was well worked, started by Meechan (I think) but well taken by McCLuskey. 3 points, third place, good stuff.
  5. A match thread coming in as late as the usual goal against us but good conditions for the game.
  6. Virginia Water does a good impression. Wonder if they look down on folks from Woking?
  7. That 115 room Chevening House that was gifted to the nation in 1950s? Who do I contact for the first fortnight in March?
  8. It's like the Gywneth Paltrow candle but gives off the smell of a pish-soaked old woman.
  9. Build Back Normal, then. Inequality and the gulf growing wider by the day.
  10. I know you're playing this for laughs, but when you said this on another thread, you know that pretty much sums up the Tories? Oh, and that benefit you can't see, that's because it's getting smaller by the day. Ask anyone on UC. "I would love to understand what drives people to treat other people like c***s. I cannot see the benefit to anyone."
  11. Says tie wearing unelected member of the House of Lords Baron Moore of Etchingham.
  12. Yup, but it just highlights the empty gestures and soundbites that will gather traction in certain quarters but, as with the Jack quote, the mask is never far from slipping.
  13. The UK PM: a difficult winter of the petrol crisis, shortages on supermarket shelves and soaring energy bills were symptoms of the economic path the country was on that would tackle a long-term lack of productivity, low wages and under-investment in energy and infrastructure. Meanwhile, a Govt. Minister: GREEN PORTS in Scotland will be uncompetitive if they have a mandatory requirement to pay the real living wage, the secretary of state for Scotland has said.
  14. I hear Boris is asking each of the thousands of returning EU HGV drivers to bring one or two with them.
  15. I never plan a city break without first finding out about its office culture.
  16. Good question. With more people realising that the current 'crisis' can't all be because of covid and seeing, for example, job vacancy ads appearing in loads of shops you'd think the 'no borders' slogan will have to be rethought. Then again...
