With the spread of teams you would probably end up with 2 fairly happy Conferences. Then the split "Ayrshire"/"Central" one where the handful of Central teams would feel unjustly split from closer teams to go on 9 trips to Ayrshire/Kello. That's if you can even decide how to find the 4 extra teams to add to the Ayrshire grouping.

If they had gone for 4x Conferences it would have worked pretty well. 9x in Ayrshire with the 30x split into ten team Conferences.

Don’t think there’s any reason to have the different leagues completely equal in numbers, due to the circumstances it would just be great to have a solution so everyone can start playing again

If they do something like this and play each other twice, that’s 14-18 (24 in the most extreme case) leagues games which tbh might still be pushing it. Remember it would only be for ONE SEASON to kick a ball in slightly meaningful games this season...

  2. Surely with no promotion or relegation, the travel restrictions and the lack of changing, it would’ve been the perfect chance to group the teams in regions for one season only. At least then teams could play for local bragging right and maybe a playoff between all the group winner for the ultimate champs in the summer if the restrictions have settled down by then...

  3. ☝️ That’s where I saw my first Golden Eagle, right where that picture was taken from!

Only just catching up with this thread, the Strontian loop off the Corran ferry is a great shout. There’s a venison place halfway round that I was always meaning to stop by that looked interesting for a munch.

Applecross is getting slightly spoiled by the new influx of (insert suitable term here). Better off going further north toward Lochinver and KLB now.

Is there still the Burger Van parked in the car park in Lochinver? There used to be an amazing selection of nice grub being sold from there. Also the tiny backroad towards Achiltibuie was always worth a drive for some stunning, hidden away beeches to chill at

Lets say clubs agree to pay players/ management team expences of £20 per week per head x 20 =£400

12  weeks from 10th Oct til end of the year= £4800+ cost of training with no gate money, how many clubs could stomach that?

Fair point, this is why we need a bit of clarity on the process of allowing paying fans back in. I can’t see it being new year before it happens but without even knowing what the gov’s plans are towards the process then we are all just pissing in the wind at the moment

I’m sure most players would defer/come to a compromise in wages

Careful... I suggested this before, only to have some smart arse jump down my throat claiming I was pushing for players playing FREE for an entire season 🙄

The only concern I have is if a player is asked to quarantine of 14 days through T and T after playing a game... who covers the loss in earners from their full time job? Would their usual insurance covers this?

  6. The East one from last season looked amazing. Something like the wee donders from my teenage years, Rosewell to Bonnyrigg to Dalkeith to Nitten to Easthouses... all the kick offs were walkable, almost!
Was actually looking forward to going and bumping into a few mates but I probably would’ve ended up stuck in The Buccleuch in Dalkeith and missing the last game

Guys easily on £8k a season, training twice a week and playing on a Saturday then saying to the wife “see that £8k a make that pays the holidays etc, I’m no taking it off the club this season” I can’t see many of the high earners playing for nothing, and why should they🤷🏻‍♂️

That’s not what I said but ok 👍

How do semi pro clubs cover their operating costs though without income?

I don’t know how true it is but it’s been mentioned that contracts don’t officially start until competitive games are back on. If there’s still no crowds allow in by then, it’s up to the players themselves (and their conscience) whether they are going to demand wages from clubs when it’s a 2nd wage/cash to do a ‘job’ they are supposed to love...

We are all struggling so I can’t see why it would be a huge problem for players to defer payments for a month or 2 until clubs are back on track. Again it’s not ideal but it’s non-league, part time football... any players who would rather let their club die than take a bit of the strain need to take a good look at themselves

  9. Hoose prices in Pumpgate Court have just gone though the roof...

Or, £20 for just the match day package. A seat on the kitchen worktop, full use of the fridge and unlimited coffee. Someone has to do it!

  10. Don’t know what the problem is. I’ve just played 90 in the rain, 10 mins at halftime, relax the rules around subs, enough time to get together for a drink and a team talk, maybe a change of top (or a smoke behind the goals) and away again. Everyone kept warm then a quick change into fresh shorts n T-shirt for the drive home to the shower. It’s not ideal but it was finally a game of football and no one was complaining. If it’s good enough for us Ammy’s then it’s good enough for tier 6-7... also a decent amount of passerby’s stopping to watch a game (not like they are allowed to go anywhere else to see a game) and keeping their distance.

As for paying refs, I’m sure if there’s no other option, between the committee and players they can stump up a few quid each to cover it. Surely players at this level aren’t too high n mighty to help their clubs out if it means getting a game on

Parts of the Cairngorms are in Moray, so there's several Munros, including Ben Macdui which is the second highest (although technically it's in Banffshire).

I would’ve said Speyside/Aberdeenshire for Ben Macdui. Usually start the ascent from the back of Aviemore or Braemar, up the Larghi Gru (spelling!)... but I might be wrong. Sorry for going off piste, the Tayside thing is getting boring now

They are unlikely to ever wind up in a Tayside heavy division in an EoS context unlike what happened two seasons ago with the east superleague.  The fears are overblown.

Oh no, they really believe they’ll be away to Coldstream “every 2 weeks”

I believe that Steelend gave up because the landowner seriously upped the rent so it's unlikely that any amateur team would take it on and Steelend's committee consisted of two brothers so i'm not sure the bodies are there to set up a senior club.

I think this wasn’t exactly true and the farmer was in fact very accommodating to the club. Someone posted a few months ago with an alternative story to Steelend’s demise but my memory is terrible and I can’t recall what was written.

Awesome pitch and some great pictures though! Would love to have a game there, seems such a waste that it doesn’t get used

That park at Farr hall is where Athletic used to play, isn't it?

Yes that’s the one, didn’t realise Athletic played there previously. So it must pass NCL standards, I just wasn’t sure why it wasn’t being considered.

It’s not like these teams are going to be pulling massive crowds from the streets in Inverness. Tbh Athletic might be better realigning themselves as a Muir/Black Isle club to attract some regular support. There doesn’t seem to be any interest in Inverness for any of their football teams, they can’t even provide pitches for the kids and amateur clubs to play on. Having decent, established teams like Drakies and Merkinch unable to play in their local area of the city is a travesty, coupled with the whole Alness playing in Dingwall situation... it’s hardly inspiring

Richest club in Britain to play their home games in a public park. Maybe they can use their designer tops for goalposts if it's booked up.

With Athletic looking for somewhere to play too, it will be a tough ask. There’s a really nice looking pitch over the hill in Inverarnie, don’t know what the situation there is though

Scourie will play the majority of their home games at Achochan Park. Have visited the area, but I can't recall seeing the ground.

Is it not just right beside the main road heading through the village? Sure I’ve seen them playing there before when I’ve been passing

Sign of the times how amateur football has fallen over the years. I played in the Inverness and district amateur league back in the early 90s when there was about 40 teams playing. Rosshire had their own league with I think 13/15 clubs from Gairloch to Fortrose. Now we have a combined league of 26/27. I don't think it's competition from.other sports I think the issue is sufficient volunteers to run and admin these teams.

Boys working most weekends and not being able to commit doesn’t help. Many also choose The Sesh over football in the free time they have too, which is the downfall of many decent players in my experience :whistle

I can understand travel concerns, but in the old EOS Superleague days, there were only 4 or 5 Tayside teams in the league at a time.  So you've got 5 trips a season of between 50 and 80 miles, 1- 1.5 hours travelling max.  You already had a few trips of 40+ miles last year playing in the ERJFA with the Fife teams, so an extra 80-100 miles over the space of 3 or 4 games isn't going to break the bank.  With proper fixture scheduling, these matches would be on Saturdays, and would avoid the (single) midweek evening kick off in Forfar that everyone seems to keep bemoaning.  Forfar WE and Carnoustie are the only Angus sides most teams would have to worry about, as Arbroath Vics, Brechin Vics and Forfar Albion aren't showing many signs of being top teams in Tayside in the near future and would be plugging away in the Tayside division.

If the East Juniors all joined the EoS League tomorrow, the leagues would be regionalised at the bottom - so there would be a separate Lothian/Fife division and Tayside division, just as there is now.  Only the bigger teams would have to travel more, but they'd have an even spread of Lothian/Fife and Tayside teams in their league - it's not like it's going to be one West Lothian team in a league with 15 Tayside teams.  Also, the "outliers" (Arbroath Vics, Brechin Vics) are not likely to be playing at the top inter-regional level - they'll be in the Tayside league, as they are now.

For example, if Whitburn joined, they'd be playing the same teams they are playing now, plus a few more from the Lothians and a couple from the Borders.  If Whitburn were promoted, their likely opponents would mostly be from Lothian and Fife.  There's probably only ever going to be a max of 4 or 5 Tayside teams at either Tier 6 or Tier 7.  So I think the travel concerns of West Lothian teams don't really amount to much.  If modest teams like Crossgates Primrose can join and travel to the Borders, I'm pretty sure teams with bigger support like Whitburn would soon be having success and wondering what all the fuss was about.

All in all, it would make very little difference to most of the remaining juniors in terms of travelling distance, but would make a huge difference in access to funding, development and licensing opportunities, better fixture scheduling, and a more professional setup.  Also, they could play in the regional Tier 8 for as long as they want and just refuse promotion - the same as what they are doing now.

Don’t, it’s not worth worrying about it. They won’t listen to you.

It’s nothing to do with travelling, it is all about an ingrained hatred of the EoS League and loyalty to the Juniors...
