  1. Just wondering what Elgin fans thoughts on Hester up and coming court date now that Brian rice has been banned from the Dugout for 10 games for his gambling in football? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51316752

As far as I know Brian's was just simply betting on matches and doesn't have the fraud element that Kane's does. Previous gambler, Dean Brett getting a four match ban but ultimately sacked by the club  https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39083265 and he bet against his team in which he was playing. Things are definitely getting stricter in terms of rule breach punishments
Doesn't look to clever at all for Hester. The only thing he might get away with is if there isn't 100% evidence that he was involved with the placing of the bet?
  2. Elgin only moved to going as young as under 8s in 2013. Previously youth football only started at under 13s so the next few years is going to be really interesting. There is a big number of youngsters at the club who have been there for upwards of 5 years. The youth set up Elgin are building is really something we should be proud of. I believe in the next couple of years we are going to see a high number of local lads breaking through into the 1st team. With a bit of luck this success the Under 20s have been having is just the start of something very good.

  3. I just don't see how "locking him up" would serve any purpose.
IF found guilty, a fine, a gambling awareness course and then a spell of community service going round talking about gambling addiction would surely be more appropriate.
Gambing is a huge problem in football, and in society in general, better to get something good from the situation rather than fill prisons up.
Couldn't agree more. The fact that Scottish Football's main 3 sponsors are Ladbrokes, William Hill and Betfred doesn't exactly discourage gambling either does it?
  4. That result today is good payback from the nightmare last gasp loss to Stirling at BB. 2 brilliant away wins in a row. Really badly need to build on that next Saturday at Brechin before having a right go at Cove the following Saturday at BB. A lot of false dawn's this season but fingers crossed this is the time for a serious tilt at the top 4 or above.

  5. As a player of Elgin, who as a team I think you support, rather than kick a boy when he’s down, might be supportive to keep your thoughts to yourself. You’ve made it plain enough in the past that your not a fan of him as a player. He hasn’t even been found guilty of anything yet.
    Well said
  6. our centre mid is not defensive minded enough to play 4 4 2 and I have been saying for long enough that we need to play sutherland up top with Hester wide left mckay right and soapy off sutherland. Any 2 of Omar mcewan and dingwall in front of defence. our defence does not get enough protection. Good to hear other ideas though. We have lost a ridiculous amount of points at end of matches.
Totally agree with this theory. That formation would suit the players we have got 100%.
Anybody that thinks playing 2 out and out wingers in a 442 formation and still not concede chances and goals is way off it. Especially when most teams play with 3 in the middle of the park.
  7. Noticed Cameron is no longer captain either and Sutherland who is signed for another club is now captain. Something going on behind the scenes?
What kind of way is that to treat one of our most loyal servants? 400 games, In his testimonial year, vice captain and a man who has never shown Elgin any sort of loyalty in any of his 4 spells is named in front of him. I would like to hear Gavin Price coming out and explaining this situation with Darryl and Soapy.
  8. I'm probably going to get crucified for saying this but at times mchardy was a bit of liability sometimes hot-headed yes he is Elgin through and through and a not bad player but we have paid for plenty times for his rashness on and off the field plenty of times
As much as that is true, Gavin Price made him club captain in the summer. A serious breakdown in that relationship must have happened this past week.
  9. I could go on about players, team, tactics, management but my biggest rant would be about the support. We all moan and criticise but some of the shouts from the home support are abysmal. “Get him off he’s fckn crap” being one of many. How is that giving support, how is that supposed to lift a player? We wonder why players won’t sign, we wonder why our home form is so poor? Maybe we need to look at the support given. It was embarrassing and cringe worthy from some today.
Totally agree. A section of so called fans In that enclosure are nothing short of an embarrassment. Looking for Elgin to fail so they can start their negative nonsense. It's does my head in. Having spoken to a few players over the years about it, it really gets their back up aswell.
  10. Usual scenario is player signs pca then both clubs spend a couple of weeks haggling about how much to release him now.
I think that will be the case aswell unfortunately. In usual circumstances I would back that, but on this one I really think if we have any chance of getting into that play offs places, an on form Sutherland is vital to that.
  11. Aye, I see multiple sources reporting it. Not sure how a pre-contract really benefits either club as you'd think Caley would want Sutherland now, rather than in the summer. We're losing him for bugger all now and it'll be a challenge to keep him motivated.
Caley probably trying to do it on the cheap and Elgin have no say in it at all.

Hopefully he is motivated for next season and we see the benefits of that for the rest of this season.

    Big blow for us though.
  12. Would not sign 2 year contract it was take him for a year or leave it. No player in demand is going to commit himself to 2 years and limit his options. Elgin has always been his stepping stone.
For what it’s worth he’s a good player at our level but nowhere good enough for a full time team.
I heard the opposite from someone close to the player. He wanted a 2 year deal due to him being totally sick of the travelling and was wanting to settle at Elgin and commit longer term. His thought process will have obviously changed now with his strong start to the season and the rumoured interest from full time clubs.
