Boundary at hue 165. Greener than 92% of the population. I appear to be Paula Yates' dad. -
Most shocking moments in books

I read Last Exit to Brooklyn, by Hubert Selby Jr, many years ago and found it astounding in the sheer horror of the events and characters depicted. However it was a fascinating insight in to the grotesque aspects of low-life America. Ultimately, my main gripe concerned the adoring description of Charlie Parker's music, as a result of which I bought a 3-LP package that I hated. I subsequently read Selby's second novel, The Room, the text below is a fair reflection of my own reaction on reading that book. The novel was regarded by Selby as the most disturbing book ever written, and Selby stated that he himself was unable to read it again for 20 years. At least one reviewer has expressed similar feelings, with claims that reading the novel made him physically sick. It has been described as "a terrifying journey into the darkest corners of the psyche."[ -
The Winter Fuel Payment is either £200 or £300 per household. The amount doesn't double if two household members meet the eligibility criteria.

The 2021 Census shows the population of Sunderland to be 94.6% white. Maybe the additional 0.4% represents a tipping point at which the locals feel that a pogrom might be justified.

Non-take up of Pension Credit by eligible households is between 30% and 40%. Clearly this wasn't an issue when the Winter Fuel Payment was a universal benefit, with age being the only criterion. The new proposals will result in many of the poorest pensioner households receiving no additional support in Winter. I think the way forward on this issue is to institute a major benefits take-up campaign, and to increase the value of the Winter Fuel Payment for the smaller cohort of eligible households. That way Labour can deflect much of the adverse criticism and depict their policy as delivering additional support to those in greatest need. https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/income-related-benefits-estimates-of-take-up-financial-year-ending-2022/income-related-benefits-estimates-of-take-up-financial-year-ending-2022#pension-credit-2

JM Barrie and his team should have gone on a goodwill tour of Afghanistan. The "sport" appears to be inexplicably popular there. Allahakbarries was an amateur cricket team founded by author J. M. Barrie, and was active from 1890 to 1913. The team's name was a portmanteau of Barrie's name and the mistaken belief that 'Allah akbar' meant 'Heaven help us' in Arabic (rather than its true meaning: 'God is great').[1][2] Notable figures to have featured for the side included Rudyard Kipling, H. G. Wells, Arthur Conan Doyle, P. G. Wodehouse,[3] G. K. Chesterton, Jerome K. Jerome, A. A. Milne, E. W. Hornung, Henry Justice Ford, A. E. W. Mason, Walter Raleigh, E. V. Lucas, Maurice Hewlett, Owen Seaman, Bernard Partridge, Augustine Birrell, Paul Du Chaillu, Henry Herbert La Thangue, George Cecil Ives, and George Llewelyn Davies, as well as the son of Alfred Tennyson.

Recent Mark Steel's in town (available on BBC Sounds) features Coleraine. Steel's pretty pointed about the origins of the Protestant population in Northern Ireland and the actions of their political class. Far too much airtime devoted to this cretinous old ignoramus.

Leanne runs a shit removals firm. Very poor reviews in general, but the comment below may be a bit sarcastic (or maybe not). We had a mixed experience with Leanne. She turned up on time and quoted us a very good price. I was really impressed with their Hugo Boss uniforms.

I'd expect a 39 year-old to be thinner. Incidentally, I am astounded at the solicitous concern of his fellow knuckle draggers. Any normal person would be pishing themselves laughing at his misfortunes. The far-right dafties take themselves far too seriously.

Scotland playing rugby test against Chile. Commentator makes reference to the famous, old Estadio Nacional. Didn't elaborate on the main reason for its fame/notoriety. I don't expect sports commentators to engage in digressions on Fascist politics, but maybe he should have avoided any specific reference to the site of appalling atrocities.

There's a lesson for us all in this. Jaywalking can end in serious harm.
