Rangers or whatever they are called v Hibernian
AJF replied to Lyle Lanley's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
My whole point though, is that Build My Gallows doesn’t contain any reference to religion. It’s a song in reference to the Irish wars of Independence. ETA: appreciate it is a while back now given it’s Strathclyde police, but some context. -

I’m not sure that argument holds up that well considering the vast majority of Rangers fans that engage in certain songs likely don’t go to church or practice religion either. Well no. It was simply a statement that the song in question really can’t be considered sectarian in the same regard as a song like The Billy Boys. There needs to be some offence directed in the lyrics for it to be offensive surely? -

No, all I said was that it’s not a sectarian song. Hibs fans unfurling a tricolour with the Pope on it yesterday probably feeds the issue just as much as that song does, but I wouldn’t claim that it was sectarian either. -

Well, it isn’t. I was responding to a specific point made about that song. I never just randomly came out with it to excuse any other songs that may be. -

I just felt launching a firework (not a flare) was rather topical given the recent comments on fan behaviour. Build My Gallows was definitely sung, although I don’t think that could ever be regarded as sectarian. Not sure about Derry’s Walls either. But again, I’m not sure how that would prevent me from commenting about a Hibs fan launching a firework. -

Which song yesterday do you deem to be sectarian? There was no Billy Boys sung which is usually the offending one. -

Who is suggesting that? I am saying the opposite -

Aye, not surprisingly I’ve heard nothing back.

Again, if past (or hypothetical future) behaviour of a club or its fans precludes you from commenting on pretty much anything, then we wouldn’t have a whole lot to say on here. -
Livi v Celtic (Kieran Airns RIP)
AJF replied to Dav nan Gael's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
They weren’t putting Livi down, though. They said minutes silences (assuming they meant applauses) wasn’t something they felt fitting. It wasn’t an attack on Livingston, really. -

Also, I almost forgot, Hibs fans doing well on the back of their clubs recent statement about fan behaviour by launching a firework today -

Aye, 3 well taken goals made it relatively comfortable in the end. Sloppy defending again for the equaliser though. I’m not sure where Barisic was leaving Lundstram that exposed but will need to see it back. For all the talk of the penalty incident, seems like an incident where a foul gets given every day of the week outside the box for it. Don’t think there can be many complaints, even if it’s considered there needs to be a higher degree of a foul for it to be a penalty. Michael Stewart describing it as a coming together is disingenuous. Both players go up and totally miss the ball, but Souttar takes a flailing arm to the face for his troubles. Good to see Sima back on the park and hopefully he will give us a good option, but Matondo also played well when he came on. ETA: I’ve also seen talk online that if both an attacking and defending player encroaches during the taking of a penalty then it’s supposed to be retaken. I’m not sure if there are any other intricacies to it though given it was saved then the rebound scored. -

With a few options back for the bench then our depth will start to look better. I also wonder if Clement will be tempted to play Roofe from the start with Dessers having been away on international duty with Nigeria. -
Livi v Celtic (Kieran Airns RIP)
AJF replied to Dav nan Gael's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
I don’t think it was @velo army’s intention to suggest they wouldn’t show their respects. I’m sure they certainly would. I feel I have a shared opinion somewhat. There are quite regular minutes applauses at Ibrox. Often you don’t know who they are for or what the circumstances are so it doesn’t really feel personal. Although it’s a good point that it will likely be different for a community club like Livi so do appreciate why it is happening. -
Follow Follow Rangers. Season 2023/24
AJF replied to The_Kincardine's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
Whilst I appreciate the flippant humour, it is quite a big (and welcome) bit of news for those that want to attend the matches which are often the most crucial in our season. -

I reckon we may get slightly more. Hopefully there’s a bit of understanding between the two on the matter now. Expect Rangers will release their own statement about it imminently so we will see if they give anything away about their opinion. -

There’s been progress, at least -
A friend and I had gambled we wouldn't be playing our final group game on Sunday the 23rd and so booked our flights into Dusseldorf for that day to take in the final week of group matches. Lo and behold we were drawn to play that day. Thankfully it's not until the evening and we land relatively early in the day. Still, we will likely need to hoof it to our accommodation in Dusseldorf, dump our bags and then make our way to Stuttgart. No tickets as yet so the plan is to watch the match at Schlossplatz fan zone. Then, probably do an all-nighter and travel back to Dusseldorf the following day. We did manage to get tickets to see Slovakia v Romania on the Wednesday in Frankfurt so at least we will be able to take in one of the matches. ETA: turns out our flight is later than I'd thought so probably struggling to make it to Stuttgart. Will need to try and sniff out somewhere in Dusseldorf to watch it. I imagine the fan zone will just show the Germany game.

Gilmour just fucked himself making that challenge

That was as bad as we’ve been in a while. Patterson summing up our performance at the goal. Northern Ireland fair putting themselves about a bit as well. Couple of potentially nasty looking tackles.

OFFICIAL HEARTS JUGGERNAUT THREAD 2020-
AJF replied to SEETHING's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
Nah. I’d be more inclined to believe Hearts were going down the sarcasm route if they hadn’t just released a tear stained statement about their badge being defaced. -

Aye, Hearts released an official club statement just a few days ago claiming their badge had been defaced, but this is just tongue in cheek…
