I sincerely hope they do, however I think that may be down to the fact it is being made easier to qualify for major tournaments nowadays (competitions having more teams at the finals and the new nations league format).
For example, if we put the current crop of players in the group we had in Euro 2008 qualifying (France, Italy, Ukraine, Lithuania, Georgia, Faroe Islands) I don’t think the current team would have fared much better than Scotland did that year (we won 8 out of 12 matches).
We are still woefully short in options at centre back and up front.
