  1. It’ll be the usual 40-42 points for safety and possibly fewer imo.

Last season was an unusually low points total for 8th due to Cove, Accies… and us, being really crap. I agree that the bottom teams this season won’t be as poor but over 40 should easily be enough to stay up.

50 points will be comfortably mid table and a team on those points will likely be still in the playoff hunt until late in the season.

  2. I’ll hold my hands up as one of those doom and gloom merchants.

Last season and the start of this one, just wore me down, and I really couldn’t see a way out of it, aside from big changes.

I’ve mostly been a very optimistic and positive supporter in my years following Arbroath - even back in the really bad days, I always felt we were better than league positions suggested and was convinced that we were always on the cusp of better things… we got there eventually.

Yes, there was cause for optimism after the QP home game but never in my wildest dreams did I think we’d go on a run like this, with performances like this.

There’ll no doubt the quite a few kicks in the nuts to come this season but I’m now very confident that we’ll be fine.

This popped up on my Twitter -

    Some of the entertaining parts

‘I dunno if they’ll score, I said 3-0 I reckon if we go hard there’s no coming back for them’

    and…

‘I don’t rate Arbroath, they just play into this wind and they get lucky on you’

    😂😂

    f**k me man

On the whole though it is a pretty good video with the vast majority of people being reasonable and optimistic about their own team.

Good quality and good idea for a weekly video to look back on and track the season over I think.

Interesting to see an away fan’s perspective not just on the game of football on the park but Gayfield and the area outside Gayfield etc too.

ETA - also not sure why Gayfield is seen as a tight park, it’s not

    I’ll give that a watch.

That last bit is one of my pet hate comments and is just lazy. Anyone can google Gayfield’s pitch dimensions in about 10 seconds and see that it’s actually a relatively large playing surface, particularly amongst older grounds - bigger than many  including Pittodrie, Dens, Tannadice, Starks Park and Tynecastle for example.

An Aberdeen supporting pal was with me at the game on Saturday and he said something about the small pitch. He was surprised when I goggled it for him to show that Gayfield is 5m longer than Pittodrie and 1m narrower. I suppose watching the game from lower down, nearer the pitch makes things look tighter.

ETA - that was a good watch. Some belting comments though “small pitch”, playing with a “hurricane” etc, I’ve been to Airdrie once and can’t remember much about it but looking forward to going back if a stiff 20mph breeze is considered a “hurricane”.

  4. That’s us won as many home league games this season as the whole of last season already and half as many games in total as the whole of last season.

What a difference having an attack minded attitude and attack minded players makes. Last season we would have shut up shop and tried to defend our 1 or 2 goal lead from early on but that was so refreshing to see attacking players coming on even late in the game and then pushing for more right up to the final whistle. Some fantastic individual performances, Slater was superb, particularly in the second half

Yesterday very much reminded me of the 21/22 home games v Dunfermline and Partick etc - solid, no frills at the back, lots of energy in midfield and relentless in attack.

Tough run of games coming up but carry on playing like this and we’ll be ok.

Airdrie have the full highlights up - how Ricky got a booking for the first one I quite simply do not understand it is incredible. He’s no done anything, Gold fouled him.

If it was for dissent what could he have actually said he was booked a couple of seconds after the whistle blew.

    That is an absolute joke

Ridiculous wasn’t it. Stupid of Ricky to get a second yellow though.

I also thought their red was soft. First one definite yellow, second was just a foul, no way was that a bookable offence.

So the ref’s incompetence evened things out eventually.

Airdrie must be bring a decent support tomorrow as it’s gone back to the traditional segregation and not just the stand and a corner for the away support

I think they took around 450 to united the other week so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was similar tomorrow. The general consensus with away fans is that Arbroath is a cracking day out (it is), the weather is going to be decent and it should be a close game too. Add in that we haven’t played them in the league for a bit and I could see them bringing a decent support.

Still a bit peed off that they’re getting the entire Switchie end. Even 400-500 could fit comfortably in the bit of stand and section of terracing up to the corner flag.

We have tried to get someone there but obviously for whatever reason it hasn't happened and i think we are just gonna stick with Stewart till Hammy's back and tbf he is getting better there. However the injury Hammy got is a real serious one and i am concerned when he does return he isn't going to be the same player for months or never will be. Hope he is fine when he comes back but i'm sceptical and also think we need to get another option at LB

Stewart has definitely improved but him playing there means we miss out on his attacking capability. It’s good to have him as backup for left back though.

That’s also my big worry re Hamilton. It was a horrible injury and it must be in the back of his mind every time he stretches or goes in for a challenge. I’d be very surprised if he returns at the same level.

Could all work out fine though of course, with Hamilton back to his best and Stewart as cover.

We’ve had games postponed because the opposition wanted to go off and play a “glamour friendly”.

The point is that it’s either a valid reason to move a game, or it isn’t. Arbroath choosing to be part time is irrelevant. Obviously the SPFL board agree that it is a valid reason, so here we are.

Which opposition teams would those be I wonder?

I’m sure the majority of your support and your board would have been, rightly, furious at the time.

Lets not let the behaviour of “them” and their lapdogs at the SPFL dictate and benchmark how others are treated.

That’s a bizarre reading of what I said.

The point is that Arbroath have made a conscious decision to stay part-time, and I’ve frequently read posters on here extolling the advantages it supposedly gives you. With that being the case, you can’t use it as an excuse to get out of occasions when it disadvantages you. Whether or not you think the Friday game is for a good reason, Arbroath being part time shouldn’t come into it.

Fixtures get moved in the top flight all the time.

No one has an issue with fixtures being moved, well we do a little as it can cause inconvenience and anyone who argues that it doesn’t put a part-time team at a disadvantage is aff their heid. But, as you say, no one is forcing us to be part-time so hey ho. However, it’s part of being higher up the food chain and for that reason most of us accept that it’s part and parcel of being where we are. Long may it continue.

It’s the reason for the change of date and the fact that one of the teams has objected that’s the issue. What if e.g. Livingston wanted to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their name change on a Saturday and were due to play Celtic that day. So they ask for the game to be moved to the Friday so they could have a shindig on Saturday but Celtic object for whatever reason. Do you honestly think that Livi would get their wish?

Not a chance and rightly so imo.

Anniversaries and centenaries don’t come out of the blue, there is plenty of time for clubs to plan for these celebrations to fit around league and cup schedules. By all means celebrate like f**k for the most minor of historic occasions but, because most of them won’t fall on a Saturday anyway, why should games be moved around to fit? Should be the other way round and it pretty much is normally.

  10. 18 minutes ago, parsforlife said:

I think moving a game for the anniversary is a bit silly but, when faced with a request that both teams aren’t agree and they need to make a decision on the spfl board should absolutely not be taking into consideration any clubs training/wages/contracts with players.    That’s each clubs choice and you can’t be saying it’s acceptable for Dundee United to move a game against inverness because there full time but not acceptable against arbroath.

Ok, I get that but there is no reason that Dundee United can’t fulfil the fixture on the originally specified date, ie the Saturday, so the fact that Arbroath object to the change should be enough reason to play the game on the original date.

As someone already pointed out, what would happen if the centenary of the “huge event” name change was e.g. the following Tuesday? united would just make the celebrations on the nearest Saturday anyway.

Clubs celebrate centenaries and anniversaries all the time but I can’t think of a single case of moving a game to fit an exact date, particularly if the opponents object.

Did Arbroath not reschedule a non TV  game 2 weeks ago to suit their own particular circumstances?

No. The game was moved in a mutual agreement by both clubs. Not many Arbroath fans thought it was a good idea and, as far as I’m aware, neither of the clubs pulled rank over the other to change the date.

  12. 19 minutes ago, Pull My Strings said:

Why? Would it be less of an issue if the exact scenario had happened before?

United have asked for the game to be moved because they think they can create a bit of an event and encourage a bigger crowd. Why is that a bad thing? And why is it a worse reason than any other reason for moving a game?

To be clear here, I think the SPFL should take into account the view of the away team and that should apply in all cases. But, we don't know what criteria the SPFL use and that's a matter for them. United can only ask the question. Maybe the SPFL thought the objections from Arbroath weren't particularly credible. Having read the Arbroath statement I can see how they might have reached that conclusion.

Why couldn’t united create a bit of an event and attract a bigger crowd on a Saturday afternoon? By far a more convenient game time for most rather than a Friday evening.

When have teams ever been allowed to ask to rearrange games for this kind of thing?

I also think Arbroath have a very good reason to object. Our players are part time and will all be working during the day. I get it for tv games (although it’s annoying and puts us at a disadvantage) but this is ridiculous.

  13. 7 minutes ago, Pull My Strings said:

It's pretty bizarre the take that Arbroath seem to have on this question. No bother changing game times all over the shop to satisfy TV companies and sedentary, armchair viewers but heaven forbid a club might want to make an occasion for fans who actually attend games.

Give me one single example of a team in Scotland asking to have a game time/day changed to fit an anniversary. Not even an actual founding centenary but just a name change. I can’t remember anything like this ever.

  14. You have to wonder about the thought processes of those in power. Ok, if it was a very significant, important anniversary then could kind of understand the request but this is so tin pot it’s unreal.

What next? 50th anniversary of our first floodlights, 20 years since the new toilets were built?

Our 150th anniversary is coming up in 5 years - I think we need to start thinking now of how we can use it to our advantage when it comes. They have set a precedent.

  15. I know we can’t wrap our players in cotton wool but I’m worried that the more games we play, the higher chance there is of picking up injuries. Our squad is small enough as it is and we can’t afford to lose another player, particularly in defence.

Obviously want us to win and don’t actively want us to lose any game but a defeat tomorrow wouldn’t bother me that much.

  16. Very minor moan here and appreciate the guys involved give up a lot of their time. However - I always look forward to the highlights, especially if I wasn’t at the game and even more so if we win but those are almost unwatchable.

Felt seasick with the camera movement and the zooming in and out. Keep it at the same zoom or gently and smoothly zoom in a little for a chance etc, much easier to watch like that. BBC Scotland do it too, although a bit less extreme, and it makes it a difficult watch. Also no replays of the goals was a bit strange. Maybe a new camera operator and editor.

Keep up the good work and it really is appreciated but keep it simple please.

On Scott Allan, Clyde’s board sent an email to owners today saying we were due to loan in a midfielder from a Championship club but injuries for his parent club prevented the player joining us in time for today’s game with the move now expected to be confirmed ahead of the next game.

I have absolutely no idea who this midfielder could be but a few Clyde fans have been looking at team lines in the Championship trying to guess (life’s pretty boring when you’re crap in League 2). Any possibility that Allan could be a shout? No insider info just pure, unadulterated, speculation.

He joined Larne on a season long loan last week.

  18. Really great feeling - without looking back, I can’t remember the last time we won two league games in a row.

The fight and attitude is almost as pleasing as the results and the attacking threat is night and day compared to last season.

Nothing to fear v Airdrie in two weeks. Let’s hope we make Gayfield a tough place to visit again.

    Magic.
