I'm trying to work it out.
I'm assuming Hamilton and Steele in the middle, Stewart at left back, and then Gold or Lyon at right back? Midfield of Gold/Lyon sitting, then Dow next to him? McKenna/Turan and Stowe in the attacking 3, and then Bird up front? Does that sound likely?
Who knows but it looks horrible to me. Only 4 on the bench including a keeper. I’ve been saying for ages that our squad is too small. A few injuries etc and it puts us at such a disadvantage.

Wow - that lineup and bench, f**k me!

It’s all very well criticising the Welsh League but doesn’t anyone remember Connah’s Quay knocking Premiership Kilmarnock out of Europe only 4 years ago?

I think TNS are very much favourites for this tie. They win the Welsh league pretty much every year and play in Europe each season because of this. They're playing at home, are full-time and are on a huge unbeaten run so their confidence will be high. Obviously a win would be nice but personally I would rather concentrate on getting our league season back on track, not that there’s a choice of course.

Are football managers the only members of society who wear those w@nky hipster white soled 10 pin bowling shoes?
I call them “fitba pundit shoes” if it’s the same thing you’re talking about. Black or brown leather hybrid trainer/shoes things with white soles. Never see anyone else ever wearing them and I can’t recall ever seeing them in shops.
10 a penny on Sportscene.

A few weeks ago we won 4 league games in a row plus a cup game, were playing great football, scoring loads of goals and conceding barely anything. It looked like we could be comfortably mid table, or better come May
Fast forward and we can’t score, the defence is haemorrhaging goals, the midfield is posted missing in games and we’re in free fall.
Now call me a simplistic idiot but why didn’t they just bottle the recipe of that success and continue doing what they were doing - same formation and tactics etc etc. I know that success in football’s not that simple, if it was then everyone would be doing it, however it definitely feels like there’s tinkering going on just for the sake of it combined with out of form players not getting dropped.

Are there any Arbroath fans on here who “feel they could’ve taken more from” that game?
A mental claim.
Yes there probably are. And I agree with you.

Really worryingly catastrophic loss of form.
The last 3 league games are even worse than anything we saw last season - 3 losses, 3 goals for and 12 against. That’s relegation form.
I can’t be the only one who was a bit disappointed with Balde being put out on loan - ok, he’s no world beater but he’s the only physically combative midfielder we have and we’re getting destroyed in midfield.
Defence is a shambles but you reap what you sow.
And yes Clashy this is a negative post.

All that positivity of a few weeks ago seems a very very long one ago. 9 goals without reply (so far) in two games. Jesus f**k.

Kind of feel like that too but I’m not sure it’s possible in the league. Maybe a first start at TNS and a second the week after at Spartans. Right now I feel pretty secure with Scott Stewart, big strong quick and reliable.
Kind of want Hamilton back more for Stewart playing right wing though, I’m just getting frustrated with Dow / Turan for the most part. Feel like Stowe should get a run as it’s the weakest part of our side as it stands.
That’s what I think too, get him back in properly in the cup games. Also got to factor in that Stewart will likely be a wee bit rusty at right wing too so throwing him back in there might not immediately work as well as we hope.

Just my opinion but I’m not sure I would be throwing Hamilton back in as a starter quite yet. Would rather he was eased back in with a few substitute appearances first as there’s no way he’ll be match fit.

Really like that maroon Clyde away kit - much nicer than our home kit imo. Stick some white shorts on and it would be even better. Picked by the fans from a choice of 3 supposedly.

What’s the difference on concentrating on survival and aiming for a higher finish up the table. How do you approach games differently if you are just concentrating on survival. Play for draws ? Makes no sense to me. You play every game with trying to and expecting to win other the United games and possibly Raith away as things stand.
That’s not what I mean at all.
Of course we want to play every game to win, end up with a many points as possible and as high up the table as possible but wanting the teams around us to lose to the teams at the bottom just to keep us in contention is dangerous thinking imo.
Doesn’t appear to be anyone as poor as Accies, Cove or us last season so it’s going to be very very tight.

Other results went our way after a bad night at the office. Onwards and upwards.
Really? I think the results went as badly as they possibly could this weekend. The league has really tightened up now and we’re only 4 points off bottom.
Would much rather a couple of teams were cut adrift at the bottom. We need to get any ideas of promotion or playoffs out of our heads and concentrate on survival.

Time will tell. Some guys are excellent “coaches” but hopeless “managers”. Hope he’s been brought in purely as the former and is just going to complement the team already in place. There’s a huge difference between being involved in coaching sessions and drills etc, as opposed to man management, picking the lineup, formation, tactics, substitutions, signings etc etc etc.
Wasn’t Todd Lumsden very highly regarded (by some) as a coach? Yet he was horrific as a club manager.

Unless things dramatically improve then I won’t be going. I normally travel down from Aberdeen via Brechin - obviously that’s not happening but I can’t imagine going via the coast road will be much fun.
Met Office saying 34mph gusts at 3pm which normally wouldn’t be enough to have a game postponed at Gayfield but factoring in everything else then it may just be enough to have the game canned.

I spent years trying to find the perfect pick. Eventually gave up and now just use my fingers and nails only.
Whenever I try a pick now it feels weird and somehow “disconnected”.
If it was good enough for Wilko then it’s good enough for me.

I think a big problem with the weather is that the ground will still be saturated from the rain of 10 days ago, so there’s no where for all this forecast heavy rain to go.
I’ll be surprised if they’re a huge amount of football on in much of Scotland this weekend.

Kind of feel like that’s the way I’ve felt about Dow for most of his time here. Last season he looked quite good when he came in but I think that’s because we’d been so bad and he is a solid reliable player who will always be at least average.
Don’t feel like he gives you enough going forward considering he plays right wing, always very conservative and when he gets in good areas he delivers on the main poor balls into the box or duffs shots miles over the bar.
Ayr at home the one meaningful contribution he’s made offensively with that brilliant ball for Gold.
Would even give Stowe a run.
I like Dow as he’s pretty solid and is , as you say, always at least average, but I know what you mean. I thought he changed the game in our favour when he came on v QP at home but he needs to put in performances like that every time he plays. Same with Balde, really like him but there’s just something missing.
Now - if you could somehow morph Dow and Balde together and combine their best attributes then that would be some player.

Met office and BBC both now saying gusts of around 30mph on Saturday afternoon so it’ll be on if that’s the case. Yes that’s still windy but not enough to make it a farce.
The forecast has also changed considerably for the better since yesterday so hopefully that’s the trend and Saturday turns out to be ok.

What a fucking game this is. Didn't think it would be possible to have a game more intense and physical than last night but this is incredible.

Ireland get away with murder in most games, they play just over the edge of legality and normally get away with it due to their standing in the game - constantly offside, forward passes, squint lineouts, flying over rucks and blocking off teams competing fairly for the ball etc. still a great team though, just met their match tonight.
Nice to see a ref actually refereeing both teams for a change.
And as for that bellend Sexton - a whinging, cheating wee p***k who embodies zero traditional rugby values. Absolutely classless to the very end. f**k him.

Yep, and you’re 7th after 9 games, early days and I don’t expect us to be up there come May but happy enough at the moment….. oh and we’re still in the diddy cup.

How! We’ve got 4 on the bench today. What if this was an important league game?
It’s tin pot as f**k not being able to fill a bench.
TNS have 9 on the bench and we have Keegan Jacobs and Jess Norey.
