  1. Another issue that is a problem for Cove’s growth going forward is the Rangers name, blue kit, lion badge, mini *** type feeling about them. Obviously, that doesn’t sit right with the majority of fitba fans in the city. I always though they would do better attracting support if they changed their name to simply “Cove”, played in black and gold (Aberdeen’s original colours) etc.
  2. I live in Aberdeen and don’t know one single person that would define themselves as a Cove supporter, they do exist obviously but they number in the low hundreds 3-400 tops I would say. I do know a few who go to Cove games regularly but they’re Aberdeen fans and go for either the novelty or to support another team from the city. A question I have asked is - what happens when/if Cove start to directly compete with the Dons for players/sponsorships/local investment/fans etc? When the sh!t hits the fan Aberdeen is very much a one (big) team city and will stay that way.
  3. Would love to see us start with the usual back 5 then Low, Henderson/C Hamilton, Stewart and McKenna in midfield with Hamilton and Wighton up front. Bring on Linn after 60 to run at a tiring defence, and any 2 of Donnelly/Hilson/Gold/Craigen/Swankie at some point. Can’t see it but it would be exciting.
  4. As you say, our away form has been arguably more impressive than our home form. More defeats but more superb wins. Didn’t stop us losing to Aberdeen’s kids though. Wrong lineup, wrong attitude. Strongest team available for Saturday please.
  5. As Calderon said already, yes I would avoid them, especially the White Cockade, which is essentially a locals bar with very little, if any passing trade. It’s years since I’ve been in either but didn’t feel welcome and I would be surprised if they had changed any. The only decent pub in Torry, Campbells, shut down a few years ago. Loads of pubs, of all types, in the Guild street, Market Street area. From old school boozers - Old Kings Highway, Spirit Level, Snuggery, Market Bar, Aitchie’s etc to more upmarket e.g. Craftsman, CASC. You’re also a very short walk from one of Aberdeen’s best pubs - The Prince Of Wales.
  6. Zero pubs in the area, best to drink In the city centre, Guild Street, Market Street area - essentially the area immediately outside the front of the train station/Union Square or head up to Union Street. I wouldn’t walk, it’ll take a good bit longer than 20 minutes, especially after a few pints. Best to jump in a taxi (there’s a rank just off Market Street) or get the number 3 or number 20 bus - make sure it’s the correct direction (Cove or Balnagask). Get off at Halfords/Tesco or a wee bit further along at Lidl.
  7. Just posted this on the match thread. I live in Aberdeen and used to work very close to Spain Park. It’s on the edge of vast industrial estates which will be deserted on a Saturday, so plenty of on street parking in either East or West Tullos Industrial Estates and a short walk. Personally I wouldn’t park in the residential streets of Torry and don’t try Tesco, Lidl or Halfords etc.

  9. Might need a wee bit of work on barriers, and extra catering and bogs but nothing major.
  10. Aye but they beat the mighty Talbot don’t you know.
  11. Oh well, that’s us fecked. They’ve started a thread about us in the Premiership forum.
  12. There is a real danger here if we think we can just turn up, play fringe players and win this comfortably. We should but that doesn’t mean we will. IMO we have to play as strong a team as is available, at least until the game is won. A poor result here could knock the stuffing out of us. I’m sure the management team will have learned a big lesson from the debacle v Aberdeen B in the Challenge cup earlier this season. Even though we had enough chances to win 3 games comfortably and hit the woodwork 4 times, we lost on penalties to a team of kids that had one attempt on target during the 90 and scored. We went into that game in good form but rested a lot of our best players, appeared to have the wrong attitude and lost. Even though it was a freak game and freak result, these things can happen if you approach a game with the wrong attitude.
  13. I would like us to take this game very seriously and would therefore start with the same 11 as Saturday apart from McKenna in for Donnelly. Try and put the game to bed by half time and then change things. Bring on Wighton and Gold or Craigen for the second half (depending on how the score is) and I would love to see Bobby Linn come on to run at a tiring defence after 50-60 minutes.
  14. Looking forward to the Darvel game next Saturday. A nice break from the league and a great chance to get some game time for Low and the new guys. Need a fully focused and professional performance here. A few of their fans seem to think they have a great chance to win this game so, IMO we should start with a strong 11 and try to put the game to bed by half time. Absolutely no disrespect to Darvel intended (we’ve had plenty cup disasters in our time) but it “should” be a comfortable enough win and hopefully on to a good draw in the next round.
  15. Ah ok, I don’t think that’s what most people are talking about though re offside.
  16. Good highlights. Raith's goal was perfectly fine, ToB plays him onside as he's sliding on the ground trying to block the cross. Also thought you had a, fairly soft, shout for a penalty at the end - Thomson had his hands on and pushed your forward, if your player had gone down, as well as JT, you might have got it.
  17. I know it’s winter but topping up the tan is no reason to come off Agree with your lineup. Low, Wighton and Hamilton have to play some part in the game in order to get match fitness and bonding.
  18. Really liked Williamson when he was with us, very physical and direct. Always seemed to be a ba-hair away from getting sent off or seriously injuring someone though, with his full-blooded challenges. If he can control that part of his game a bit better (maybe already has) then he’ll be a very good player for Rovers.
  19. Two absolutely massive league games coming up. Both at home, both winnable. 6 or even 4 points from those will put us in a very strong position. If we can’t get near 2000 home fans for each of those games then we never will. The cup game is a very welcome distraction. Should be comfortable enough and gives us a chance to gel the new lineup, and get much needed game-time for Low, Hamilton and Wighton. I’d give them 45 minutes each.
  20. Benedictus… Oh no sorry, he injured himself and had to be stretchered off after trying to chop Mike McKenna in half… didn’t even get a red card for one of the worst challenges I’ve ever seen.
  21. It would be but I’d like to see us go for it. Nothing to lose, we’re safe so should be going all out to win every game.
  22. Thanks for Wighton. Really have no idea what’s going on at East End Park. Feel really bad for you guys having such a bunch of incompetents ru(i)nning your club. Like most of you, I thought punting Grant would be a turning point in your fortunes but it appears that the rot is too deep - once that losing, defeatist attitude/culture sets in, then it’s difficult to stop, never mind reverse - see Falkirk, Brechin, Partick, Cowdenbeath etc. Even though we’re obviously delighted to see Wighton back I would be fecking raging if I was a Pars fan. Dunfermline should be fighting tooth and nail for every single goal and every single point but, nah let’s loan a guy who could actually help do this to a team in the same division. Mental!
  23. I’m now feeling much more confident about tomorrow. If McKenna is available and Hamilton and Wighton both play (and Low), at least part of the game, then that’s a pretty exciting prospect up front for us. The fact that we’ve only conceded 4 goals in 10 games makes me think that it’ll be a very close, probably low scoring game, with the success, or failure, of our attack as the deciding factor. It’s amazing how a signing (and a few beers) can lift the spirits. I was pretty despondent a few hours ago.
