Maguire's performance was overshadowed by the new guys, but I thought he had a really good game, especially since we had two midfielders still getting up to speed with fitness and sharpness.

Since the Ojala signing started as rumours amongst the crowd at the airdrie game, I think we're 100% safe to assume we've signed tbis guy and we can go ahead and send him welcome tweets. Alexander mentioned shields had a hamstring thing in a recent interview. As for the game, I missed the whole thing due to meetings at work. That may be why I'm not joining the pitchfork brigade. I am anxious about the glaring hole in our midfield though, hopefully some of these (at least)5 singings are on the way.

It's a shame Maguire's shot was saved in the lead up, as that burst and interception followed by the shot had that "f**k this" air about it, whereas the eventual finish was more of an "excuse me". Not sure I've ever seen hutspah written down, weird. The game was rubbish from what I saw while I was sneaking glances during my meetings. Some of that is down to the wee team raising their game, and some is down to us not being quite up to speed yet. I doubt that's anything close to what our starting XI will be in a month, so not too worried. Maguire's work for the goal was nice, and so was the finish if lawless meant it. I think a lot of factors played their part in getting the Kelly deal done. There has been a trend of people wanting to be closer to home after all of the covid stuff (and I empathize with that one, but I'm stuck in 'murica a bit longer). Then there was the successful loan period, getting games, and feeling like an integral part of a team, with the players award to top it off. He has also seen two players get Scotland call ups while playing for us, and I'm sure he has his eye on that. Also, at his age he could see out his full contract and still be just approaching his prime and the chance for another big move, with both of the uglies as viable options in the coming years. In fact, I think we're doing him a favour and he should probably take a wage cut.

I like reading things like this, but I often wonder how they account for intangibles and things like dependence on teammates or the tactics a manager deploys. There seems to be a growing industry around this, and as more data becomes available it can provide some interesting insights. Has any team successfully moneyballed it yet.
