  1. Yes I accept that it's a combination. Dundee maximized their potential both on and off the pitch, by hook and by crook you might say. Hibernian and Aberdeen bombed this season and you've taken full advantage to achieve your dreams of making the top-6. I tip my hat.
  2. It's an innovative strategy to scrimp on the pitch/stadium to help improve the squad. Aberdeen and Hibernian take note.
  3. lol. That's always been a big criticism of him back when he was playing for Celtic and for Scotland he also is a bit guilty of that so no surprise to hear that.
  4. Nah, i think you've been pretty on the mark mate. I just do it because I enjoy it, not for any other reason - ultimately it doesn't give you a better idea of what Clarke will do, just of what he's done - that's what I've found. If you want to try and figure out what Clarke will do you're probably better off studying Scotland opponents in terms of their strengths and weakness and that's a bridge too far for me.
  5. Yeah, I like understanding all the nuances. It's like trying to figure out what a chess master is thinking. Strategy and all that. I don't follow a club side so I have time to get really into the Scotland team. International Football is only 10 - 15 games a year so it works. If you re-watch a film three or four times you pick up the details you missed on a first viewing, that's all I'm doing.
  6. That's true, he was playing where McGregor normally plays during the last camp. It didn't stop him getting into the box when we got into the final third, but it changed the dynamic and affected our build up on the left side (having one less player). It might be one reason why we found it difficult in the first part of the Northern Ireland game to generate chances down the left. I haven't finished trying to work out what happened in that game after we moved to a back-4 so can't say yet, but that's one thing I'm looking at.
  7. It would fall under horses for courses for me. Perhaps there's a situation or game that might arise where it would be more beneficial for the team to have him playing as a #6 or maybe an #8 instead of our other options. Christie was really good for Scotland on the ball against The Netherlands as a #10. Originally I thought he was also good against Northern Ireland too, but having watched bits back maybe not quite as good as I had remembered. He played as a #8 against Moldova in 2021, when we beat them 1-nil. There's a lot of rotations on the left side especially involving Tierney, Robertson, Christie and McGregor (or McTominay in the last camp) so fixed positions aren't such a big deal as they can interchange.
  8. It's fine to replace players and try to improve the team, but the idea is it's not a revolving door. If you look at the Hickey/O'Donnell situation they were competing directly in two squads (Mar-22 and Jun-22) and it wasn't until Sep-22, 6 months after Hickey was first called up that he had replaced O'Donnell in the squad. I think it would be a similar situation with Dykes. He'd still be called up alongside a different striker and they'd compete directly in the Scotland setup and system. There aren't that many core members who have lost their place in the squad so there aren't loads of points of comparison.
  9. I was trying to reach you at your level champ. Offer a perspective you could relate to and demonstrate how flimsy the goal scoring form idea is. goals, confidence, man in form. let's have a wee look, get him on the plane. natural goal-scorer. 433.
  10. It depends what the manager's looking for in a player. Dykes wasn't brought to Scotland to be a prolific goal scorer. To judge him by that metric is unfair. Shankland's goal scoring at club level played a part in him being called up, but injuries to other players (Stewart, Nisbet, Brown) also played a part as well as other improvements in his game. Once you're established, you're established. The loyalty system. Players who're established team members only fall out if someone significantly better becomes available (O'Donnell), they've done something wrong (Fraser), they retire (Marshall) or if they stop performing. The latter is the argument against Dykes. In my view if you want him out of the team you need to back it up with something other than goals scored as it's not his primary role in the team. I can't remember a core team member being dropped because he's 'out of form' at club level, probably the opposite. Clarke tends to support them during their difficult spells.
  11. Both the emoji and the comment following it were partly included to make it clear that it's not an argument I'm presenting seriously and partly a dig. I could rewrite it to something less aggressive like this if you prefer:
  12. Friends, I'd like to submit my heartfelt congratulations to everyone connected with Dundee in your great achievement today. I'll lift a glass to you all tonight. Thank you for letting me participate - it's been an honour and privilege to have been a part of this triumph. I'll never forget where I was when it happened. Thank you.
  13. Not sure the decision on who starts against Germany will be decided by club goal-scoring 'form'. That'll be your mistake, it'll be other factors. Isn't Che Adams 'oot eh form' for Scotland anyway? He hasn't scored for Scotland in our last 16 matches (since Armenia in 2022). That's quite a drought, coming up for 2 years. These kind of arguments are the bottom of the barrel.
  14. I wouldn't be totally surprised if he made the squad. He can play full-back, wing-back, centre-back and centre-midfield. Still, he wasn't called up in March so probably lean towards him not being chosen.
  15. He's past it, where's the next emerging talent? give him a crack.
  16. Lyndon Dykes is fine. Does a good job for the team and played an important part in qualification. It's too narrow a viewpoint to just measure his contribution by goals scored. It's the same as measuring a midfielder by the number of passes they make or defenders by the number of tackles. It's too reductive.
  17. Nisbet is named as a sub for Millwall.
  18. Craig Gordon starting today for hertz. Probably with a view to the semi-final. Good for Scotland.
  19. Brentford's last game will be just over 3 weeks before the game against Germany. It's all unknowable's so I don't think it's worth jumping to any conclusions at the moment. If the squad is expanded to 26 I wouldn't be surprised if Clarke still took him even if he misses one or even two of the games. If it's kept at 23 then I think then it's less certain. I don't know what the plans will be with all the players having different season end dates, but perhaps some of the players will join up early like and train at Lesser Hampden. That would allow the Scottish medical team will have a chance to look at the likes of Hickey before the final squad is announced.
  20. Interesting if true. I tested the accounts predictions for the most recent January transfer window. In terms of percentages definitely over 50% of the predictions happened, probably over 60% and maybe as much as 70%. That tells me this guy is getting good information, probably higher than his success rate and is getting into the right areas even if all the deals weren't all completed. I'd say Scotland have probably made some kind of enquiry/contact.
  21. Massive game, can't wait. If Dundee win then you have to tip your hat and say well done to them. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.
