We gave a poor Airdrie side a way back into the game twice when they never looked like scoring in that second half.

The number of poor passes was comfortably in the doubles before HT and continued into the second.

We reverted to high balls once Airdrie pulled their goals back rather than continue to attack successfully down the flanks.

Our biggest threat was never close to scoring* as he was used to hold and lay the ball off (but if we continue to win it's a sacrifice I'll take, but you really want your biggest goal threat in the box)

I didn't want to focus on them as it's a rare feeling leaving Palmerston happy. But it was clear to see we have a lot of work to do still, particularly individual errors. That first half wasn't much better than the Dunfermline game and we know how it went against them. I expect it'll be the same against Falkirk unless we can cut out the slack passes.

    * Other than a good chance in the first half.

Cheers appreciate that. As I said pre match Bartley obviously now has players he trusts and feels starting them including the ghost is his best team. Cochrane has excelled since the new manager came in. With Wilson, Connelly and McGrory nowhere near the starting line up. Never thought we would play Cochrane over Wilson but fair play he has stepped up. Always thought Paton flattered and he misses more than he scores. He is nowhere near ready to step up to anything above the championship.

Connelly didn't do anything to warrant a start last week tbf but Murray is absolutely honking. The performances under MB haven't annoyed me like they have other folk but I'm getting a wee bit concerned that he can't see how shite Murray is. His attitude in training must be outstanding right enough.

Granted but he is far better than Murray. It annoys me that Bartley can't see through him and what he offers. But he is the manager and is his decision.

  3. Bartley has Kabia missing so at least 1 change. Obvious change would be Gibson for Kabia. Would like to see him start Connelly over Murray. Or will he stick with his favoured 3 of Todd, Cochrane and Murray. What does Wilson have to do to get into the starting 11? Is Paul McKay fit if so does he replace East in the back 4?

  4. I was thinking today what kind of players we would all want in our team next season. Do we go down the Falkirk and Dunfermline route sign some experience players like McGinn and blend it with proven players at this level. There will no doubt be a lot of players available for Bartley to think about signing. I look at players like Breen who we had on loan beside Benedictus and looks a far better player.

To me we have to get a leader a good goalkeeper which is very hard to get a this level. Do you sign a young keeper like Hogarth at Alloa who has done very well or a young goalkeeper like we did with Brynn who has excelled. A vocal organised centre back as we do not have that and have been screaming out for a few years. We desperately need pace in our team as again something we have missed apart from the loan signing of Jones from Middlesbrough. Ageyman from Kelty is possibly someone who may be available he is not a finished player but puts the fear into sides because of his pace and one Bartley maybe think he could make better. Depending on how Bartley wants to play from the back will depend on what type of players he signs. Will he want to just defend and keep it tight and then let the players in front of that make thinks happen. It will be an interesting couple of months with Bartley to decide on the players he has and set things in motion for next season. Would love to see Dabrowski stay but feel he will get at least championship offers. Interested to hear what everyone thinks.

His birthday is in August, does that mean he could just hold off signing for a club until then if he finds clubs don’t want to pay a fee for him? Or is a fee we would be due that small for that clubs will likely pay it?

It's your age at end of contract so still 22. As long as the club offer him a contract I think it is a month before the end of the season then entitled to compensation.

  6. I think the rest of this season will be about Bartley assessing this squad to see if he feels any can work with him moving forward. We have already signed young Brydon who looks better than we had and hopefully will improve with age. I think the signings that Bartley makes from now on for next season will determine how people feel about next season. WG signed a lot of players and people were optimistic about the season but as we know that did not work. He tried to sign experience but all got other clubs.

It will be interesting to see were Bartley goes for his new players. So we want him to sign some experienced players and blend it with youth. But when signing do we want league 1 players from say Kelty, Edinburgh or Montrose. All these guys may be happy part time with their jobs and it works for them in their life. Are they going to change that for a 1 year FT deal with us. It is very difficult to sign success at our level with our budget. A lot of the time you have to sign potential and hope it works out. My concern as it was all through AJ's time is a full rebuild of 20 players tales time to gel and by that time you can be countless points behind top of the league. Hoping he gets it right but he has a tough gig on his hands.

  7. Fair play I have listened to everyone's point on giving Bartley the time. I will roll my neck in just now and wait and see what he brings to the club. He has connections hopefully he can use to allow us quality loans albeit I would imagine they would younger players. We have heard about his Dyce and Howe connections so that may lead to some youngsters from Newcastle or Everton if he is trusted by them. Recently has been so annoying as a fan and I would just like a better feeling around the place including on the park. We all know a lot of these players are not good enough to challenge at the top of this league but I thought with a new manager and some new signings we would improve a bit but not to be. At least Bartley can start planning for next season now as we know what league we are going to be in and we can stop thinking of getting to the play offs.

Only thing I'd be at odds with is the suggestion that Marvin should be able to coach our mob into significant improvement. In general you would think so, but if the players basically just don't have the necessary minimum quality then he's wasting his time. Sometimes you just have to hold up your hands and admit they're not up to the standard required

Do you not think with 4 of his own players in as well there should be an improvement?

Are you Gavin Reilly? You really seem to have some bizarre chip on your shoulder about Bartley. Yet again there was absolutely nothing controversial about that interview.

I thought he was full of praise for the players this week and IMO it was fair. The effort was certainly there but we were beaten by a better side and two poor lapses of concentration yet again. He didn't look unsure about Wilson, he gave an answer and an answer that again seemed fair to me. If that's not the reason then do feel free to share. But if he never gave an answer you'd be complaining that he didn't tell us why Wilson didn't feature.

All about opinions. No but I would have kept Reilly though. I will be watching as the season finishes to look for any progress.

  10. So Bartley thinks we played reasonably well apart from the goals. Praises McKechnie, Todd, East & Brydon plus Hendrie for getting out of his sickbed. Then says Lewis has played too much football but brings him on as his first sub. Looked unsure what to say in interview when asked about Wilson. Instead again just said he is not up to the fitness standard as we seen last week. He can't help getting wee digs in about players. If he was not fit enough this week he definitely not fit enough last week. Poor decision by the manager then? Good to get Connelly back if Kabia is now injured. Season is well and truly done and Bartley will now have to rebuild our club in the summer. Interesting to see how that works out as I want to see improvement this season but feel we are no further forward.

He's had 6 games ffs  Again - what were you expecting him to achieve this season?

Improvement. It is all right talking about the changes you want to make it carrying them through is totally different. A lot of managers especially down south get 12 games he is half way down that and we are going backwards with his signings even if on loan.

Are we any better than when WG was manager I don't think so

Exactly we should have improved. We had some good performances under WG with these players like Edinburgh at home and the Alloa game the following week. It won't be the first time a manager can talk but not walk. We will give him the chance to build his own side but I don't see a revolution coming if I am honest. Everyone is fighting for the same players around a same budget he will find that out very quickly.

Bartley should be judged next season when he has his own squad but there's no getting away from the fact this isn't going to plan

Come on that's what we said about WG. Bartley has to improve this team of jobbers. If he is as good a man manager and coach that all his pals say he is then show me the evidence because I see nothing. I will gladly eat my words if he builds a squa and is in top 2 come October but just now I do not see that.

Yes. I'd written this season off long before Bartley came in. When he came in I never expected him to turn this mob around. It'll take more than 4 January signings.

If we're as poor in September I'll start to be concerned but I refuse to believe folk genuinely thought a new man coming in would turn this lot around.

We said that about WG when he got the caretakers gig last season and nothing improved but got worse. Then the board still gave him the gig. A good coach should be able to improve players and the fact he added 4 of his own signings to that there should be an improvement surely. Disappointed to say the least.
