But like last season, is that really down to the keeper or more the defense in front of him. For me it's the defence that's done the job, despite the howlers of the keepers we've had in the goals or Mehmet stuck to his line every cross and corner.

I would tend to largely agree but doesn’t mean it’s not an overreaction to just say bin a keeper you just gave a three-year deal to.

Ditch the keeper isn’t exactly going to be a convincing argument when the side are sitting 4th with such a strong defensive record.

We all know the reality beneath the surface is a bit different of course but just felt it needed to be pointed out.

Fair enough. I genuinely thought that they were significantly better than us first half. Not our worst performance of the season, but I thought they showed more quality and were the better team.

They were comfortably the better side in the first half, with and without the ball. Very surprised to hear anyone think it was even close tbh. It wasn’t as bad as Ayr or Rovers in the cup tie but it certainly was not good at all.

While the first goal was poor defensively, nobody can honestly say it hadn’t been coming. Other than Jak’s shot that he dragged wide, I don’t remember a single time we looked like scoring.

Thought we did improve second half but had given ourselves too much to do. If you give away cheap goals and make poor choices in the final third then you’re going to struggle to win a football match.

If a striker is two yards from goal, collects the ball with his back to an empty net and gets wiped out before turning, it's still a goal scoring opportunity and a red card by any sane referee. So the direction of travel is not an absolute criteria at all.

Defenders tracking back are of far less consequence though when the keeper is no longer in play. It's not equivalent to a defender bringing down a forward outside the box, with a keeper and tracking defenders there too. The opportunity to score is substantially higher in almost all cases and so a higher level of punishment is merited too.

Which has no bearing on the reckless nature of the challenge (like most ridiculous sweeper keeper 'tackles') and the significance of failing to make the tackle effectively on the outcome of the game.

It's closer to two red cards cumulatively than a yellow card - but the referee simply bottled it in the classic Ibrox/Parkhead category of decision-making.

    Agree to disagree.

So long as he has the motor skills to, err, turn round, then the goalkeeper having taken himself out of the situation makes it a clear as day goalscoring opportunity. It was also a reckless challenge nowhere near the ball.

Ederson's challenge is three cards in one and yet with VAR assistance it gets sanctioned as a yellow card.

A player moving away from goal has been deemed by refs for as long as I can remember as not a clear goal scoring opportunity, plus there are defenders tracking back to consider as well.

The tackle is mistimed but he does attempt to win the ball.

I don’t think the red gets overturned if awarded on the field either tbf.

  5. What better way to spend the Saturday before Christmas than watching Arbroath and Dunfermline attempt to play a game of second tier Scottish football?!

Arbroath finally ended their losing run with an impressive victory up at Inverness while we went down to a self-inflicted loss against Partick Thistle.

Our inconsistency is best highlighted by our record so far of six wins, three draws and six defeats. Utterly average, forgettable mid-table stuff but in this high-octane division, that could be enough for play-off football!

However, despite sitting 4th, we are only six points clear of the bottom two and need to focus firstly on increasing that gap as much as possible over the next month or so.

Just two games left until we can try to add to the squad in January…

Is the East End Bounce forum down?

Shame how that turned out. Could have been a really good alternative for Pars fans but when it first started too many of the admins were like .net admins and banned folk who dared debate them (even when they didn't know said posters were admins). They also let mass trolling go on far too long.

I know all those issues are sorted, and have been for a long time, but they fucked it with first impressions. That's sad as I think they have some good stuff (I read it fairly often*) and some excellent posters. I hope they can build their base.

*I used to post there but stopped after an admin banned me. My 'crime' was to disagree with them (over what I can't recall; they accused me of being 'seething' and said I therefore needed time to 'cool off'). Didn't post again although, as I said before, I still read it, especially after games, cos the posters there are good and have, usually, top comments.

Never understood the purpose of that site tbh. Can’t imagine there’s a very wide selection of Pars fans who don’t already post on here, Dot Net or FB/Twitter.

Single club forums usually end up becoming batshit anyway due to the natural echo chamber effect. P&b is far better in that regard.

Anyway, most Pars fans are probably sensible and avoid it all.

Furthest thing from my mind was you lot, just so happens that for the minute you are 4th, it could easily have been any other team and I'd have said the same thing about them

You dont honestly think your that important to us, or is this just another example of the pretentious billy big time Pars mentality shining through again 😂😂

Just stop man you’re only making it worse 🫣
