  1. First and foremost I didn’t mention John Rankin once so don’t know where that’s came from. Going by your logic we have 2 premier league defenders, a premier league midfielder and a premier league striker because they have all played in that division in the last decade. All being managed by a premier league manager none the less. Yet we have lost 8 games in a row and counting in league 1. Strange
  2. No one seriously thinks Jack Ross will get the job it’s just a bit of fantasy given his status at the club
  3. Ultimately we won’t know what calibre of applicant we will get until it is advertised. I reckon we would be looking at a Gus Mcpherson, Peter Grant, Ray McKinnon type. I wouldn’t mind giving someone like Allan Johnston a chance I guess. Would be interested to see if anyone from the West of Scotland or Lowland league would apply and given a shot. Ricky Waddle maybe ( not an endorsement but the type of candidate I would be interested to see if they would apply) or a Gordon Moffat at Clydebank. In a complete fantasy world obviously it’s a hungry Jack Ross looking to rebuild his reputation. Really is a big decision
  4. After a positive start to the season we find ourselves on very familiar territory. Danny has tried to set us up one way over the summer and it’s not worked out, so now we try to fix it with square pegs in round holes. It’s at this stage absolutely bizzare that Danny can’t find not even a good, but a competent natural full back. It is absolutely baffling and completely unforgivable in my book. The recruitment on paper over the summer looked to be really good and for the first couple of games seemed to be positive, but the recruitment in that sense was only on paper names that we all knew. In particular with the CB positions, if Danny had a look at the 4 options in Sula, Grant, McLean and Thicot he should have been able to see that signing 2 of those would be fine but all 4 isn’t good enough. No pace at that position and being consistently caught out with chipped balls over the top, it’s been plain to see since the Kelly game at home. The issue that we now face is clear. Danny has had multiple chances at league 1 and with the current set up in place off and on the park the best that he can deliver is scrapping for survival in league 1. This brings up 3 big questions for the board, Danny and the fans 1) The question is realistically can Clyde in its current state succeed at a better level than that being delivered? If the answer is yes then he ha to go and if the answer is no then he stays as he is delivering all that we expect to achieve. 2) If we bring someone else in can they improve on what Danny has given us and long term if we get relegated can they be trusted to push for promotion again or do we see ourselves in trouble at the wrong end of L2 in 3-4 years time. 3)Who could we bring in that we feel can work with these players and deliver something better? Ultimately I believe the only way he leaves is if he walks. The new deal in April was a big mistake
  5. 6 games in and 7 points picked up this season, and the most frustrating thing is it should be on at least 12 points. Going to give a quick review of where we are so far ( all in my opinion of course) The Bad: We look able to beat any team on our day and at times it feels like every time we go forward we can score, but we are very wasteful at and combine that with flinging goals in the other end we will continue to lose and draw games we should be winning. We should have been out of sight at half time on Saturday there and Allan should have been going in at half time with at least a hat trick in my opinion. We consistently lose the same goals this season. Individual errors combined with a slow back 3 means teams get in behind us far too easily and as soon you put the CB on the turn or on their heels teams get chances. The most frustrating part of watching us this season is the absolute school boy mistakes from long balls up the park and not picking up runners, absolutely unforgivable considering the back 3 are all about 6’3 with years and years of experience. Just not good enough. The Good: This is easily the best team Clyde have assembled since we got promoted, shows the difference that investing in the team all over the park and not in 1 or 2 individuals can make. Although we have been wasteful, at least we are creating these chances consistently instead of punting and hoping Goodwillie can bail us out. Scoring won’t be an issue this season. Although we have been chucking in amateurish goals, the fact these are individual errors are a good thing because at least you don’t need to work that hard on fixing them and could be a symptom of a backbone learning to play together. If we ditch the back 3 and go for a 4 I reckon we can become a lot more solid. Easy fixes ( in theory). We are only a couple of pieces away from being a really good team and a bit of a surprise package I feel. The Lennon: Last season Danny was 1 half away from losing his job and I feel like he knew it, there was a point where his job looked untenable especially after the Clydebank game. We very much found ourself in a position where only Danny could have got us into it and yet he was the only person who could have got a tune out those players and keep us up it was very strange. Ultimately he earned the right to have this season. Recruitment has been better than the last 2/3 season definitely but there are still a couple of classic Danny signings where folk are there to fill out the squad and obviously aren’t good enough but he sees something in them. Our biggest issue this year is the now trademark Danny Lennon inability to find full back that can play at this level,at this stage I’m not even looking for good top drawer full backs just bang average ones, yet we can’t find them. Was disappointing this season to find us again playing players out of position in these areas of the park. These have been a problem position for close to 5 years now and it doesn’t really make sense why Danny can’t fill these roles effectively. Conclusion: Pleasantly surprised with how good we look this year, we find ourselves in a position where the ball is in our court to get a good mid table finish this year/ stay well clear of relegation nonsense. Danny has done a great job this year and we are an exciting watch.
  6. Deleted my post as the tone was a bit lost online I felt. NLC have had a shocker here. My dad was looking forward to going to this. Now if he wants to give it a try he has to go through to Airdrie ( as they aren’t even offering a programme at Broadwood but no one else is allowed to) and pay 3 or 4 quid a pop. I don’t condone their actions.
  7. If you look at the Lowland League/ West of Scotland clubs in some cases they are bankrolled by external people like Darvel. Then you have teams like Pollok, Talbot etc who carry a support similar to what Clyde had in League 2 and maybe more than other league 2 teams. Talbot, Pollok etc make the most of cups and budget to be competitive and push in the league, these teams also own their own grounds and are very well ran off the park. Ultimately I wouldn’t say it’s surprising that they can offer good wages but I’d be surprised if their top end earners were earning the same as Clydes top earners, but those teams are also more attractive because they are competitive and players would rather be winning and going for silverware and making decent money. Being involved at the wrong end of the table and battling for points in front of an angry support isn’t attractive for some players.
  8. The issue with this is that: a) every single team In the country is on the look out for a player like this. b) Players like that don’t come cheap Not a single player in any of the top 4 leagues in the country hit 20 goals this season. I’d rather we focus on getting quality on the pitch in all areas and the goals come from all over the park than look for one major goal source. We had that for years and we can’t put our eggs on one basket, it simply doesn’t work. The only way Clyde sign a 20 goal a season striker is if we unveil a gem from the lowland/west of Scotland league no one has heard of, or we get a quality player and feed him.
  9. Nah It can’t be Ray Grant, not with all his loyalty issues surely?!
  10. Out of all the players that have been released recently or could be available from teams around us the ones I’d be looking at are: Niang ( Provided he is allowed to leave for free) Ross MacIver Paul Dixon Ray Grant Kurtis Roberts Alan Trouten if he can be convinced to sign a pay as you play. Maybe a loan of Jaze Kabia Not all would necessarily be starters but all would add quality and depth and would be huge improvements on what we have had last couple of seasons. Receuitment has to be right this summer, another year like this and there won’t be two teams worse off than us. League 1 gets tougher every season.
  11. The statement that came out the same day we signed Monday Samuel has flown under the radar a wee bit. Very interesting that 5 people got put straight onto the board without a vote of any kind ( to my knowledge). Including an ex chairman who is a very divisive figure within the support, watch the interim in his particular role be slowly removed. Not even trying to keep up the “ fan owned” illusion anymore.
  12. Moving in with a west of Scotland team is an absolute non starter, unless Clyde have the money to put significant work into into the grounds. Even teams like Pollok Clyde can’t share with because of the lack of flood lights etc and they are at the top end of the West of Scotland scale. Also the chairman for the West of Scotland league said there would be no new ground shares for teams that play on grass pitches but would honour ones in place like Cumbernauld United/Kirky Rob Roy ( another reason we won’t end up at guys meadow). it’s a toss up really where we end up, the only viable options would be to grovel to NLC or we end up at Stenny or Hamilton for a couple of seasons. Can’t see QP wanting to put a team on their new grass blend pitch after what they have seen this season
  13. Clyde have treated Cumbernauld with great disdain over the years and made no real effort to engage or advertise in the community especially in recent years. As if Clydes presence alone was such a draw that people would turn up. That ship has sailed now. The difficulty going forward is that a lot of people who have helped get Clyde into this state regarding community links etc are still there and would be in charge when we move to a new area. The other issues is what area can Clyde go to without a team already and fight for fans off the OF and EPL TV fans. It’s really really really grim. I always wanted Clyde to actually commit long term to Cumbernauld and actually become a presence there, a complete shakeup, that is now done. Seen alot of people say “ We will just go back to Shawfield”. What Era are these folk living in? It would be great to see Clyde back there but realistically do Clyde have the money for such an investment like buying land? Let alone one that has a tenant, is a dump in its current state, would need alot of redevelopment and also assuming it were for sale wouldn’t just be bought up by real estate for flats. People wanting to return to Shawfield are real Walter Mitty types in my book. The moves by the board in the coming weeks/months will arguably be the most important in the clubs long history, hopefully they can get it right, because the club may not be around much longer if it goes tits up.
  14. Him being banned from Broadwood is an unprecedented move and a unique one in the Scottish game. I am by no means an expert on this issue or to be honest really bothered by it, as my opinions on this issue have already been said. My penny’s worth on the situation is this. NLC aren’t really stopping the guy from doing his job. Goodwillie isn’t losing any income over this, he will still be getting paid, the only thing he loses is un guaranteed bonus’ I.e appearance fee or goal bonus ( if they exist). They haven’t threatened Clyde by saying “ release him or…” they have simply said “ we don’t care if he plays for your club he just isn’t doing in our facility”. If they were stopping him receiving an income or dictating to Clyde who they can sign directly I’d imagine that would be a different issue. The ban itself I’d imagine is also ok. NLC own the ground and the land etc and as such have a right to dictate on who can and cannot come onto their private property much like any other establishment like a bar or a super market. The SPFL/SFA/PFA I’d imagine have their hands tied as they can’t dictate policy or sue a third company regarding their own contracts with a tenant. If for example a team that owned their own ground banned a player from entering that would be a different situation as that could obviously lead to abuse of power for unfair sporting advantage. With regards to the lease ending next summer, NLC we’re always in their rights to do that for any reason and had no obligation to renew. As I say, I don’t have any specialist knowledge, it’s just my own observations on the matter and I could of course be wrong. I wish Clyde weren’t in this easily avoidable situation at all.
  15. I genuinely struggle to think of a more mismanaged club outside the premier league, maybe Falkirk give a run for the title. Just sleepwalk from one disaster to another,It’s a real shame.
  16. Clyde Football Club and needlessly blowing your own foot off. Name me a more iconic duo.
  17. Goodwillie is gone and isn’t and shouldn’t be brought back. It’s nearly 4 weeks later and people still can’t seem to get their head around this. The guy was very lucky to be in the situation he was in at Clyde and had the fans wrapped around his finger. He then choose to engineer a move away and put his victim and her friends, family and his own family through all this again as soon as he was released from bankruptcy. Him coming back is a non starter, the situation has changed dramatically in 4 weeks, he now is the pariah in the football world he probably should have been first time round. With the case also back in the headlines as it appears that a motion to private prosecution is on its way furthers the case of this being a non starter. Grown men chanting his name after he left is an absolute riddy. Saying “ we want our captain back” is embarassing. All this discourse about bringing him back is absolute cringe, owners and fans shouldn’t be consulted on such issues first and foremost because: a) Why would they be consulted on every possible signing? b) In this case the board would take all the press, the flak and the abuse. Fans and owners would bare non of the responsibility. Its time for everyone involved at Clyde from the fans to the board to move on from David Goodwillie. The club was around long before him and will be long after. The base is there to build on for next season.
  18. I think the issue with the recruitment team isn’t that they aren’t good or that they don’t do any work etc. The issue is that Danny has final say on all signings. Ultimately no one knows what the recruitment team do and everyone was impressed by what Corr presented in October. Danny has said numerous times that all signings fall on him he has final say. If the recruitment team presented Danny with say 5-6 targets for CBs in the summer and either Danny couldn’t attract them, they didn’t want to come or Danny passed on them then that’s not really on the recruitment team. Is Danny someone who would even want a recruitment team being an old school kind of manager? Maybe he signed his own guys in the summer despite the recruitment teams input. Conversely maybe the recruitment team are completely at it and giving Danny nothing. Let’s not pretend Danny’s recruitment without a recruitment team wasnt questionable. As always with Clyde there seems to be something not right with this set up and a complete lack of transparency ( Diamond didnt help this). Going forward it may be worthwhile to have a “ first team coach” and a director of football type rather than this weird middle ground. Too many cooks and too many egos at play. Will be interesting to see what happens without David Goodwillie now I guess, was he a blockade for players coming in? will there be more sponsors? I’d heard Mitchell, Lennon, Moore and Goodwillie took up a eye watering chunk of playing budget on those 4 bodies alone
  19. Parry (c) Page Elsdon Rumsby McAllister Livingstone Gomis Splaine Cuddihy Jamieson. Cunningham Would like to see Cunningham utilised more centrally and see if his pace can get us up the park and put teams on their back heels. Think him and Jamieson would give teams more to think about defensively than Jones or Tade who I would utilise in later stages of games. Loves always been best coming off the bench for Clyde and that’s a role he should stick to.
  20. For what it’s worth, Barry wasn’t the one saying that. Just his pals on the show. He said he couldn’t get Alloa playing the football he wanted to, either that’s a him problem or a player problem. I’m going with the former
  21. I agree he comes across well but given how he has communicated with fans and players during his stints with Clyde and Alloa, it’s hard to see how this isn’t just him in “ media mode” trying to come across as a nice guy. As you say it’s weird he doesn’t communicate with fans that way considering he clearly can do it when he wants to. I’d agree he’s very very emotional and allows that for him to lose the head a bit. Im willing to admit I’m wrong with this viewpoint, I’m not his biggest fan anyway going in and I am very biased against him after the state he left Clyde in.
  22. https://youtu.be/12vwoi8iNV4 For those of you that haven’t seen this honking pish interview with Barry
  23. Genuinely glad for you guys to see the back of Barry at Alloa. He is without a doubt one of the worst managers and was easily the most arrogant and disrespectful manager Clyde have ever had. Absolutely could not take any criticism, split up the core of a team that had previously made the playoffs before he took over then threw money at players from leagues above to fix the issues, he was someone players didn’t want to play for and almost seemed scared to try anything incase he had a go at them. So I’m utterly unsurprised to see history repeat itself and honestly glad this guy is gone, he is the biggest frauds in our game. If he was serious about it he would have got an experienced head beside him to show him the ropes but instead got his wee yes man pal. His resignation no matter how he spins it on the radio is to save his own face and make him seem like a nice guy, and with his pals on the radio last night stroking his ego and licking his arse saying he deserves a shot at a big gig because he was a great player and he can’t convey his ideas to lower quality players etc, also doing a segment if he should be at Rangers, no wonder he has such a stinking attitude and high opinion of his skills. Was a baffling appointment then and a baffling appointment now. Hope Andy Graham gets the gig for you guys. Im not bitter about Barry…
