Was just about to say the same. Not a fan of Paton at all. You’d like to think it’d because the new guys aren’t fit enough to start yet.

McDonald for me definitely one of our most important players in the last 20 years. Was often compared to Dougie Arnott due to similar physical appearance but truth be told he was much better than Arnott. And I say that as someone who loved Arnott. Moult, Van Veen, Higdon, Coyne and McDonald probably our best strikers in my lifetime. I’m not sure Faddy was an out and out striker, but if he was, throw him in there too!

When I read Killie/whoever blew our offer out the water I thought we were stumping up £1500 a week and my head was going to come clean off. If it turns out we pushed the boat out massively and were then gazumped by silly money then I’m not sure there’s much we can do about that. Why would Killie entertain those alleged wages when they have about 8 strikers and are sitting pretty?

I get that but he’s surely worth what Biereth, Shaw and Wilkinson were on plus a wee bit more? I know it doesn’t work like that but have St Mirren seriously offered £6k plus a week? Where are they getting that?

Indeed. It’s not that a lot of the players don’t care, but Mugabi, O’Donnell, Butcher, Casey, Kelly etc are always likely to make a goal costing mistake. Defending set pieces has been a weak spot all season and doesn’t show any signs of improving, is that going to change just because it’s a play off double header?
