  1. Well he’s a welcome addition to Scottish football. His players clearly like his style and his work ethic. Just wish he’d convince your owners to lay some real “grass”. I fucking hate plastic pitches!
  2. Ach is that not the usual line managers use to convince the fans at the current club all is fine and dandy? Goodwin easily tripled his wage going north. It’s an easier stepping stone to move from Aberdeen down south than direct from St Mirren or Livingston. Goodwin harbours a desire to manage down south and also his country. I just can’t see him achieving those goals without some remarkable change in tactics and luck along the way. As an aside I find incredible is that Alex fucking Rae has landed himself another job down south earning a fortune as a number 2 to Paul Ince. That must be a tactical masterpiece with those two in charge!
  3. I actually find it incredible that a bigger club has not tempted Martindale away from Livingston. He has done the crime, served the time and as acknowledged that what he did was wrong. What he has achieved with the limited resources available is nothing short of remarkable. Goodwin left St Mirren for Aberdeen after a freak set of results that Saints only just managed to scrape some wins together. He is clearly being found out. I believe that Martindale would have had a bigger impact on Aberdeen but his previous misdemeanours are being held against him. The Livingston model must surely operate on a low basic wage with high win bonuses. Other clubs should adopt it. St Mirren might have seen more of guys like Brophy who are on such a high basic wage that they just cannae be arsed.
  4. Alex Ferguson signed Frank for St Mirren after being tipped off by a Rangers scout. They publicly fell out on a number of occasions over Frank’s off field lifestyle choices and Fergie banned his star striker from playing. Frank probably experienced the most of the early “hairdryer” assaults by a very young Fergie who was only 34 when he was St Mirren manager. Frank also went toe to toe with Jimmy Bone in the tunnel during a European game that resulted in the latter having to leave the club and later followed by Alex Smith. Frank no doubt got battered by Jimmy but he lived to tell the tale. Frank’s worst experience as a St Mirren player was when he was celebrating what he believed to be another famous European win against a team from Sweden as he smoked a cigar in the bath having been substituted late on. He could not believe that we lost that game. I am sure that Sir Alex and Papa Bone will fondly remember today the loveable moments that Frank brought to the game. Yes he was temperamental and difficult at times to manage at times but he was a match winner. He will be sorely missed by all.
  5. His debut as a Liverpool “player” just after he had left St Mirren in 1979. His goals against Slavia Prague in Europe capped a brilliant night at Love St: RIP Frank The most natural goal scorer I’ve ever seen consistently in a Saints jersey. St Mirren would not have got to the final or won the ‘87 Scottish cup without his experience.
  6. I used to love the derby games when both sets of fans were housed in the Cowshed. Your ground lost so much atmosphere when it was made home only in that section.
  7. Clydebank arguably had one of the first “hospitality” venues directly overlooking the pitch. They used to pull the curtains shut just before KO.
  8. Just about every true fitba fan in Scotland loves the atmosphere at Tynecastle but the ticket prices for away fans is putting fans off. It must be an excellent ground to play in as a player. If only Hampden the biggest toilet in Scottish football could be given a Tynecastle style makeover. The auld Tynecastle was certainly an intimidating place back in the ‘80s when the players adopted the same approach as many of the hooligans on the terraces.
  9. That reminds me of a famous area of Upton Park back in the 80s when I went there.
  10. Are you sure that following the redevelopment of Ibrox during the late 70s that the east and west enclosures held 9000 fans? That’s a fifth of the Ibrox capacity back then. IIRC the Copland Rd stand when completed in 1979 had a capacity of 8,000. Even a redeveloped Love St only had a safety certificate for 10000 back in the day.
  11. So there we have it. Ibrox despite the lies was never an all seater stadium until 1994.
  12. And then there’s Newcastle. Not won a domestic major honour since 1955 I believe. Given the size of the support and the money passed through that club down the years they must be the most under performing club in the UK. You have too assume that the new “investment” will alter that.
  13. The point I’m making is that they and the authorities heralded it as an “all seater stadium” back in 1981 when it clearly wasn’t.
  14. Yes that was the case when St Mirren had to seat the old Love St terracing to gain promotion in 99/09 yet ICT were allowed by the league to ground share in 2004.
  15. “When did Ibrox become all-seater? 1981 After the Ibrox disaster of 1971, the stadium was largely rebuilt. The vast bowl-shaped terracing was removed and replaced by three rectangular, all-seated stands by 1981.” It was heralded at the time as all seater when it clearly wasn’t. It was a lie perpetuated for many many years. What actually was the first all-seater stadium in Scotland given we can’t class bench seating at Kilbowie and Pittodrie as seats!
  16. I know what you meant but it’s still funny given the subject matter. Kilbowie was sold off in 1997. McDiarmid opened in 1989. Pittodrie was all-seater in 1978 if you class those bench seats that were used at Kilbowie and Pittodrie as seats. I never once sat on them apart from half time. Be interesting to hear exactly when the main stand enclosure at Ibrox was finally made all seated. Rangers used to peddle a lie that their ground was all seated when it clearly wasn’t. Not the first time they have lied. No doubt there was a reason for lying to get financial grants given.
  17. I’m sure I remember something else before the TSB days. Really iconic advertising. Miss it every time now. Sadly I can’t seem to find any images of these corner advertisements online. The old section of covered terracing that both sets of fans used across from the main stand at Tannadice was arguably the steepest I have ever experienced. What a team Jim McLean’s United were back in the day. It’s an absolute travesty they were robbed of the ‘84 European final against Liverpool through bribery and corruption. Some of the greatest ever games my team had back in the 70s and 80s were against United. The ‘87 cup final was the worst game ever. But I enjoyed the result. VAR would have held that game up for how long now with that offside United “goal” in extra time? f**k VAR f**k the SFA, UEFA, FIFA and corrupt referees. Jim McLean punched the wrong guys!
  18. It’s strange how opinions can differ. Just a few differing points from my perspective. Kilmarnock must have the worst leg room in the league with regards seating. United’s ground is a hot potch of stands. It is really strange as an away supporter to be using the old “home” end facilities. It used to be a great ground. Best in the league no doubt Tynecastle closely followed by Easter Road. Finally Parkhead and Ibrox should just be carpet bombed and left deserted as a reminder that religious bigotry has no place in our country.
  19. Your wife should leave you more often. How is the food in the care home?
  20. Embarrassing and disgraceful spelling and grammar. When do the “skools” go back wee man?
  21. “Some believe after the deceased has failed to answer to his name being called three times, and before his ring and seals are defaced, he is tapped on the forehead with a small silver hammer.” What if he’s just hard of hearing? Then he gets his ring defaced? They would have to club me to death with a baseball bat rather than a wee hammer if my ring was defaced!
  22. The gender thread will take a fence or two over that comment! HNY. First time sober in over 40+ years! Might become a taxi driver next year Now that’s a great film!
  23. Part (surely!) always amuses me that it was never finished. I’m surprised the offending house never had a mysterious fire Arguably the most uncomfortable main stand seats I’ve ever sat on.
