  1. Did 6k around the local area, but was a run cut short - coming down with the cold and my stomach just wasn't willing to co-operate. I've noticed that my speed's suffered from doing only the occasional long run - I plan to do at least one fast 7k loop every week (aiming to break my 29:57 pb each time) to get some of my football fitness back.
  2. You making sure to check on your kids, though?
  3. There's three winners on that page too. Test data leaked into a real database, maybe?
  4. Finished my first half marathon yesterday in 1:40:04. Great experience, can only echo the comments about those who came out to support the runners. You really do see the best in humanity lining the route. By 7k (just before the turn in to Dumbreck Road) I didn't feel like I'd done any running at all, no strain or anything, felt great. Legs started to hurt a wee bit at 14k, and by the 11 mile mark I was really struggling. Ran the whole way though, which I was delighted with. Later discovered that I'd been slowing down a bit, then sped up after 16k again. Well worth doing though. I did start a bit too far up the grid so I felt like I was getting in the way - but I just didn't know how far up I should have started! Well done to all who entered. I had an absolute ball.
  5. Finished The Road (10/10) and Pygmy (8/10) while on holiday. Pygmy is highly idiosyncratic, difficult to get into but worth the effort. The Road's just beautiful.
  6. Filth (the novel) 's weakness was that it tried to be too taboo, and the decent ideas got lost in a wave of shocking acts which you got a bit desensitized too as the story went on. I think a bit of sanitisation would benefit the film (if that is the case; not seen it yet).
  7. 17k in 1h23 tonight. Calves are screaming, but the real limiting factor is my stomach - seems to always get upset. Anyone got any tips on either front?
  8. In my experience: first year books are a complete waste of time. Ignore, ignore, ignore.
  9. I like that the "sensitive to energies" boy is buying his melons at a supermarket. Good luck extracting vitamins and minerals from what are effectively balls of GM water, sadsack.
  10. 14k in 66 minutes earlier on there. Started off like a train and didn't pace myself - nightmare. Feeling like I can actually run a half marathon in < 1h45m if I pace myself, though.
  11. Shamefully I've never tried the course off the whites. Now I've got a decent driver, maybe it's about time I did!
  12. The only problem is - when it's in a bad way, it's terrible. The 12th is only playable about half the time - probably not too bad given that you should get near the green in one, but still. I don't mind the lack of distance as I'm not a big hitter. I hate the 15th but love the 13th, my drives always go for miles there.
  13. The Room - 0/10 Appalling beyond words. Enjoy it at home with a few friends, then go to a screening, they're a riot.
  14. I'm considering joining a local course next year - I'm very near Williamwood so I think I'll plump for that. I'd be interested to know what Eastwood is like, though! Deaconsbank's a great wee course. The fourth is a great eagle chance as well! The best hole's the tenth though, I'd say - it wouldn't be out of place on any course.
  15. Did a 10k in 43:30 last night. Chuffed. Dunno what time to aim for in the upcoming half, maybe 1:40?
  16. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UV8mPH8FphM Pervert and visionary. The whole album's out of this world.
  17. GO BUY A DALEK THE WHOLE VILLAGE CAN F*CK
  18. One thing I can't emphasise enough is - well done on that amount of walking. It's a massively underrated exercise.
  19. No surprise there - you're talking about a country that use a collective term for a singular vehicle
  20. Really? I thought GY!BE were brilliant at the Barras and the Arches. They're not as good as they sound on record, but that would be a gigantic ask.
  21. amazing round there - well done! Got a career best round at Anstruther recently - shot 71 off the yellows, it's a par 62. Went round all holes on the front 9 with a score of 4 or better, and parred the 14th, 15th and 16th on the back 9. Delighted with that.
  22. I couldn't believe this either - we were on one of the benches right in front of this couple who talked throughout and barely even looked at the screen - madness. Ten Rapid is all the more incredible as it's not an "album" per se, but a collection of songs that hangs together brilliantly - and was made by the group when they were in their early 20's. Great choice. b*****d.
