Spain could lose in Norway assuming they beat us and still comfortably qualify which obviously doesn't help us. They only need to win one of their games against Scotland and Norway to set them up for qualification with Cyprus (a) and Georgia (h) their final two games.

Yeah I do think the "Spain will be desperate to win the group" narrative is a bit overdone, they will want to win it but I think if they beat us, especially by a couple, they'll be feeling pretty relaxed going to Norway.

  2. Definitely have some sympathy with the countries who are unhappy with this, in a a normal tournament you'd have 1 spot or 2 going to host nations of whom at least 1 of would have certainly qualified automatically. This way you're giving 2 slots to teams who in fact did not qualify on merit. Should be one slot I think, then you're still guaranteed 2 host nations competing.

See that "it's slowed down so it looks worse" patter.... Get tae f**k. Slowing it doesn't change the tackle. That one was high, studs up, nowhere near the ball and from the back. I have no idea why, in the VAR age where reviewing contentious decisions is the literal point, that he doesn't end up with a red there.

A ref giving a yellow is 100% understandable. But a review of that tackle reveals it to be a leg breaker.

This. Kovacic has gone in from the back, dived in, completely missed the ball and hit his ankle when Odegaards foot was planted. It's more forceful, more deliberate, more reckless and more dangerous than Jones one last week.

They're a great team obviously and have sworded us here but I would find it incredibly pleasing to see them lose in the final to France with an absolute homèr of a ref.

Would really rather it didn't get that close.

  5. Having extensively watched The US Office following many recommendations, it's not even remotely in the same league as the UK Office. It's not even in the same league as relatively middle of the road US sitcoms like Parks & Rec or Modern Family. If it didn't have Steve Carrell I think it would have been borderline unwatchable.

SSC tickets go via UEFA's site. You get emailed a unique access code by the SFA to be able to buy tickets from UEFA for the Scotland allocation if you have enough points.

How does it work for those on the threshhold for having enough points? Do UEFA operate a "window" to use your code in the same way?

Also, and a difficult question given that we've never been involved in a knockout game, do these operate in the same manner just in a very tight timescale after group stages games?

    Apologies for all the questions!

Seem to vaguely remember there was an Athletic Bilbao striker a few years back who had a fairly journeymanlike career and then, when in his mid-thirties, suddenly became top scorer in the league and got called up for Spain.

Ismael Urzaiz? Wasn't quite mid 30s but late 20s in the late 90s when he made his Spain breakthrough? Might be longer ago than you were thinking of.

The SSC allocation will go on sale early 2024 so points gained from going to warm up games next May/June won’t help you with tickets for the finals

Presumably they will for the R16 onwards, not that I'm getting ahead of myself.

  9. I think this was answered previously but no points are awarded for actual games at the finals tournaments themselves, is this correct?
