  1. Not usually. As a matter of course I avoid bet builders as they're generally terrible value, but for example on William Hill they have McTominay first scorer 12/1 and Scotland 1-0 11/1, but as these are effectively connected events (i.e. if McTominay scores first then the chances of Scotland winning 1-0 are considerably higher) they reduce the combined odds (which is fair enough but generally the amount they reduce them is excessive), so in this case the combined bet on WH is 75/1. McBookie have the same bet at 180/1 (it's actually over 200/1 now). I assume they do this on all their sports markets which seems crazy.

My instinct, mental as it seems, is to tell him to get tae, mainly as someone would have to miss out to make room for him. The difference with Adams (the other granny rule player) is we didn't have a decent striker he was replacing. Who would we bring him in for? McGinn, Christie or any other player who has worked hard to help get Scotland in the position they're in right now?

It's a not yet from me (which is wild, I know).

I think this is definitely a, concern, and Clarke will definitely be factoring this into his approach. Not so bothered about one fringe player missing out necessarily but the possible impact on the wider group. That said he could clearly be an impact player right away for us in the Euros so I feel like there has to be a way to make it work. Would do no harm with convincing Anderson too I suspect.

Che Adams might be our most underrated player at the moment. For a forward he's incredibly unselfish and a tireless worker. Involved indirectly but crucially in all three goals (I think he won the foul for the second) and does so much work off the ball.

A lad who only qualified through his granny and who was hardly battering the door down to play for us but gives 100% and is always available. I bloody love him.

Don't want to detract from your main point as I absolutely love Adams, but it was Gilmour fouled for the second and the third is actually Hickey that is involved (no idea what he's doing there but that's this Scotland team for you).

  4. I think we're all in agreement that this is the greatest Scotland team of the last 30 years at least. With the age profile of the squad and our current ranking it feels like there are serious opportunities for this squad to go even further. Getting through the group stages at Euro 2024 should be more expectation than target, that would mean last 16 and match the achievements of previous Euro qualifications, after that you're into anything can happen knockout territory. Winning the group would give us a pretty good chance of being top seeds whereas finish second and we're probably third seeds (only best runner up makes the top 2 seeds) so winning the group will give us a massive lift in that respect.

Looking ahead, the WC2024 qualifiers are for the expanded format albeit UEFA criminally is only getting another 3 places to 16. Do we know at this stage what the criteria will be for seeding for the group stages of that draw? Winners of each group go through automatically so a top seeding is pretty crucial, otherwise you're into a two round playoff path similar to the Euros. I also note that the final four playoff path places are said to be allocated to the four best ranked NL group winners who finished outside the top 2 in their group - does this mean that there will be some serious diddies from League C and D like the Faroe Islands and Northern Ireland getting priority over big League A teams like Scotland? Unlikely to come to that but seems a bit silly.

Netherlands v Ireland on Sunday will decide it. The Dutch look pish, though.

Greece to go through, or just say they're all too shite and give the spot to Luxembourg, who have 10pts in their own group, because it's funnier.

If Ireland qualify I will switch allegiances for life.

You’d have thought so, wouldn’t you?

I think I read somewhere here that the Home Nations have as part of their agreement that they won't select a player for a period (2 or 3 years?) if he has previously been capped by another home nation, is this correct? Could it be that Anderson/his agent were not fully aware of this? Otherwise the about turn seems very strange (assuming Scott Burns is right and he generally is).

In any case though I think it's poor to frame the withdrawal this way. The guy could have handled it better (if it is even true) but he's a young guy and shite like this isn't going to help if he still does require convincing. Also means if he does return that no doubt some of the usual roasters will be on his back.

  7. I'd like to see Gauld get a shot. Let's be honest, nobody here watches MLS with any regularity, but Gauld is clearly enjoying his football again. He was the most exciting teenage prospect in the last 30 years probably in Scottish football, I think it would be a shame for his career to wane out without seeing whether he could offer us something at international level. Looks like the France friendly won't fit in nicely with the MLS Season though. Are there many European players at other nations that are getting regular call ups? Not many from the list here jumping out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_foreign_MLS_players

Truly don’t have digs at Doolan- a really good guy just out of his depth- will fail and lets revisit this post in 3 months.

For me- whether -EF( my club- the perfect example of failure) or others ,amazed at the stupidity of those involved in running football clubs

. To appoint Doolan ( fans favourite)- fan ownership -imo- is doomed / no money and fan elected  idiots involved in running the club

of course everyone relates to Hearts- 3rd biggest club in Scotland. But only survives because of James Anderson’s donations to the club( biggest donator / investor in history of Scotland)- Thistle- you will destroy a legend that is so out of his depth a blind man can see…

Anyway - no agenda- EF fan- so expert is witnessing idiots- but only opinion-.
