  1. Did my 6 miles today. Tempo pace was relatively comfortable. If I can do that pace at Baxter's, I'll smash my PB
  2. Aviemore. It's 2 weeks after Baxter's 10k and I *should* PB in both races if I keep the training up and stay injury free. I have 6 miles planned for tomorrow with 4 at tempo pace...
  3. 9.5 miles yesterday. Half marathon training ramping up a bit. Found it quite easy though, I think I'm a lot fitter and stronger than I thought I was. Maybe the cycling has helped. I tell you what though, I really need to do some pilates or something as my core is very weak and I'm getting a sort back. Morrison, I was a bit disappointed with my GNR goody bag last year. The medal was a bit plain and the tshirt wasn't a technical one so you can't use it for running. Pish when you consider how much you pay for entry.
  4. Saw this the other day - your post reminded me of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77Qs1bdJaCU
  5. Not for men, I wouldn't say - you'd be able to wear tight shorts in the pool then pull on a top when you get out into T1. They're pretty much a must for women, though!! Socks - I did a novice distance one on Sunday. It was only 400m swim, 16km cycle and 3km run. I did it more to try out the transitions before doing a sprint distance next season. Who knows, I might manage a standard/olympic distance at some point. Reporting a 5 mile run this evening. Didn't get out until 9pm. There were bats all over the place.
  6. Thanks! I'd done one in 2011 but I didn't have a decent bike so it was a struggle and not much fun. This was totally different. I've got a good bike now and I'm much fitter than I was then. Transitions were ok - t1 was pool to bike, running over the Tarmac in the swimming pool car park in bare feet wasn't fun but it was only a wee distance. It's trying to remember the rules - you can't touch the bike until you've got your helmet in, for example. I think it's helpful to walk yourself through transition in your head a few times. Out the water, swim cap off, into transition, (wetsuit off if it's open water), helmet on, talc over your feet, socks and shoes on, race number on (I have a tri belt for this purpose), bike off the rack, out of transition and onto the bike in T1 then T2, off the bike before the transition area, run to your spot, rack up bike, helmet off, change shoes to trainers if you've had cleats on for the bike (I did), swivel number from back to front, and out of transition. Go for it - I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a new challenge. I'd also recommend doing a few brick sessions, as nothing prepares you for the heavy leg feeling when you go from cycling to running!
  7. Did a triathlon today. Totally nailed it and ended up 8th in my category. Chuffed to bits
  8. Love that this thread is still going. I'm running/cycling/swimming pretty regularly at the moment - I'm one of the only parents whose activity increases during the school holidays. Few events coming up - I have a triathlon next weekend, Baxter's 10k (my favourite event - aiming for a PB here) and then Aviemore half 2 weeks later (again, looking for a PB, sub 2hour would be my ideal). My running has improved dramatically this year and I've broken the 25 min barrier for 5k (which is really impressive for me!) I'd love to go under 50:00 for a 10k at some point, but think September might be a bit soon. Possibly one of the local ones into the new year might be more realistic.
  9. Gaz, I'm really sorry to read that. I second everything LM has said. Hope things get a bit better soon. Take care.
  10. Never be worried about posting about what you consider to be a poor time! We are all different abilities and all have various levels of experience, but what I like about this thread is that we all support each other no matter what our speeds are. I find that with running generally. You get one or two knob ends, but the vast majority are really supportive and don't care how fast you are. I'm slow slow slow compared to most of you, but I'm lapping those on the couch.
  11. Well done! Got that on my to do list. I happened to be in Aviemore at the weekend but didn't realise it was the race weekend. Bit gutted I hadn't entered because I know it's a fast one. Next year...
  12. Bloody hell Scorge! Ouch! Happy birthday, though!
  13. Well done you three! Sounds pretty hellish! I had a blast today - it was the most comfortable 10k I have run since having my daughter 19 months ago and I enjoyed every second. My main aim today was to run all the way without stopping as that is something I haven't managed for a while, but I did today and came in just over the hour mark, so I'm feeling rather chuffed with myself. Slow compared to you guys, but this is a big improvement for me (although depressing to think I was 6 mins faster only 3 years ago at the same race!).
  14. Sounds tough but like you're going in with the right attitude! Yes, I'm 'only' running the 10k though. It's one of my favourites! This is the last in a series of events I've been doing for charity (every Sunday in September, I've done some kind of challenge - Great North Run on the 7th, 26 mile Kiltwalk on the 14th, 45 mile cycle 21st and now this on the 28th) and I've raised over £1300 for a small local charity so I'm chuffed to bits! Looking forward to a weekend off :-) Good luck to you and morrison! Fanny, I'm really sorry to hear that :-(
  15. I cycled 44.5 miles today. Furthest cycle by a long way. Sare. Arse.
  16. That's shit Marty. I have developed a cold with 5 days to go. Typical. I just want to get GNR out of the way now too. :-(
  17. That's awesome, well done! I ran 10 miles today My hips are f*cked though. I'm starting to wonder if I should see someone about them or if incorporating some yoga into my training would help. I suspect two children in the last few years hasn't helped... But, the good news is I *will* complete GNR!
  18. Fudge, can't recommend couch to 5k training enough. Don't jog until you're burst, because ideally you'd be able to repeat 8 times or so. Week one is something like jog 60sec, walk 90 x 8 and builds up from there, with the jogging getting longer and the walking getting shorter. In my opinion anyway.
  19. We've another week yet. My wee dude was 5 last week. Scary!
  20. We got a letter to that effect last term. "Please check your child's head for head lice as a case of head lice has been discovered in your child's class." Simple. Re: girls v boys - they're all different. My son was/can still be a bit of a nightmare. But my daughter was an absolute breeze. They're just completely different personalities, nothing to do with gender, IMO.
  21. One step forward and two back at the moment. Bloody annoying. Should have done 9 miles this morning but I'm full of the cold. Shit. GNR is 4 weeks on Sunday. Crap.
  22. A beautiful evening for a cycle here. Did about 13 miles at a very leisurely speed. Very enjoyable.
