The New Raith Rovers Thread

Looks like Watson is off to Hibs. A good move for him, and probably justifies the actions of both the player and McKinnon. If he'd signed on early he'd miss out on a move to a bigger club, and we'd have been left hanging if we'd waited for an answer.

He played every minute of last season. Hopefully we can get similar consistency from his replacement(s).

Matt Elder - Raith Rovers land a key signing target - full story in tomorrow's @ffp.

Is this just going to be Craig Wighton?

Most Likely. Although Last weeks paper mentioned that the agreement had been reached. So I'm hoping its the new signing that City Press had on twitter for Friday has actually been finalised early..

Was going to say he isn't good enough for Hibs, then realised they are still stuck at the same level as us, Alloa, Dumbarton and Morton.

if it's a new signing that we've not already heard about, I'd expect the club to release it before the ffp

Could be the club will announce it early tomorrow morning. It could be Dale Hilson or maybe it's the guy who was down south that was mentioned a couple of weeks back.

Just looking at the team there are a lot of new guys in there especially in key positions such as centre half's. We might be a fee games in before it all settles and gels the locals will need to temper there expectations

At this moment in time, these are our options for every position, ranked in a rough order of how I think we may line up to begin with:

Goalkeepers

David McGurn (34)

Kevin Cuthbert (32)

Right Back

Jason Thomson (27)

Lewis Toshney (23)

Left Back

Rory McKeown (22)

Darren Petrie (19)

Centre Back

Craig Barr (28)

Kyle Benedictus (23)

Lewis Toshney (23)

David Bates (18)

Centre Midfield

Ryan McCord (26)

Ross Callachan (21)

Darren Petrie (19)

Ross Matthews (19)

Right Wing

Grant Anderson (28)

Mitch Megginson (22)

Left Wing

Mitch Megginson (22)

Grant Anderson (28)

Strikers

Mark Stewart (27)

Craig Wighton (17)

Lewis Vaughan (19)

Decided to add ages in to show we're not quite as low as some seem to think, a typical starting line-up to begin with will probably involve McGurn, Thomson, Anderson, Barr, McCord and Stewart, who have all played over 100 games at this level or above. Benedictus also falls into that category despite his age, and Megginson isn't far off.

Where we desperately need to strengthen is in the wide areas, we saw in Cardle's full season when he and Anderson were the only two wingers at the club how stale things could get with no competition. Both had some pretty brutal games, Cardle especially was torture at times during the infamous "3 in 20" run but Murray played both every week regardless as he had no other option.

A winger and a striker with some form of physical presence are musts. That apart are we really missing much, if anything?

Possibly a centre midfielder? That's only if Matthews isn't ready to make the step up properly if we get injuries, if he is then those 4 are probably enough.
