Supras
Well after a year of waiting I'll be going to Glasgow Uni next month to do History and Politics. Should be fun. History is pretty good, you taught 6 subjects in lectures but only do two in the exam and those two depend on what seminar group you choose. Ergo, you only need to go to a third of the lectures. Politics is alright, I could sell you my extensive lecture notes...
Honest Saints Fan
I'm finishing off a HND in IT this year. Got the option of going to uni after, a few of them let you straight into 3rd year if you get a B or better in your graded unit. Going to apply for uni anyway and decide nearer the time whether to go or not.
Ad Lib
Politics is alright, I could sell you my extensive lecture notes... I could have said the same, but it would be more than a little mischievous given that, beyond the first 3 or 4 lectures of semester 1, I didn't write any. At all.

Sonia
Ok so I only have BBBC so this year im off to do a HND at college... But what I want to know is does uni look at a HND as like just a really good grade that would help you towards any sort of course.. or does your course have to be totally specific to your HND?

But what I want to know is does uni look at a HND as like just a really good grade that would help you towards any sort of course.. or does your course have to be totally specific to your HND? I suppose it would depend on the course but most likely, yes. HNDs represent a specialisation in the intended subject, and over the course of two years are worth at least one year of uni, possibly two if you stretch it. In general, if you get to the end of a first year uni course and want to switch subjects, depending on how far you want to move away from the original course might see you booted back to first year and all the financial headaches that entails - the same goes for an HND i.e. you might get on the course but ahve to do the first year, and SAAS might get a bit funny about that. Also, realistically, in the current climate with limited uni places available, turning up with an HND in history and wanting to do a uni degree in physics might not be the best idea.
The Real Saints
Got ABB in my A-Levels, one grade away from the AAB Glasgow requirements. I gave them a call just to confirm and they told me they were already oversubscribed. So, I will be at Dundee Uni starting in a couple of weeks! Looking forward to it.
Gaz
Got my Uni timetable for next semester the other day. It's rubbish. On Thursdays I have two classes, one from 9-10 and one from 5-6, with nothing in between.

And that's before I've put any tutorials in.

Unlucky, what course were you looking at doing? And what is the situation if you have A levels, are you paying fees? And that's before I've put any tutorials in. I still don't know what I'm doing next year but from what I can gather it's going to be around 13/14 hours a week, at most. Are you still doing politics next year? Advice : Sign up for tutorials as soon as possible. If you leave it even a day you can end up with Monday at 10 and when it comes to group projects your group will be full of lazy c***s who signed up late for their tutorials. I'm looking at 16-19 hour weeks of tutorials/lectures if I've calculated correctly. I always sign up early for tutorials. I tend to pick ones that are nearest to lectures to get them over and done with. I'm not making the same mistake as last year though, when I created a 9-4 sandwich of lectures and tutorials on a Monday, as although it meant the rest of the week was actually pretty quiet it made weekends murder.

xbl
Indeed. Once upon a time I thought that was what I wanted to do, a part of me is still a frustrated teacher! When/if I finish at Uni this time, I'll be done with getting academic qualifications forever, I hope.

I think I will use the break on Thursdays to go to the gym, go for a swim, have some lunch and then do as much of my weekly homework as possible.

English Language & English Literature. No, won't have to pay fees as the A-Levels were sat at a Scottish school.
