Who's Going To Uni?

Recommended Posts

I hear varying reports about uni - some say its a massive step , work load is insane lecturers don't give a f**k and don't help you and you get no free time then others say it's not a lot different and is largely a f**k around and if you put in effort it's a piece of piss.

I think it depends on the course and the random ones which fill up your credits in first and second year. My first year of engineering (which was set with no choice) was by far the most intense. After I changed, some courses like geography just had a hard on for essays at any opportunity whilst others like physics just expected you to turn up for lectures, read the recommended library material and then sit the exam.

Totally fucked up with my dissertation. Totally forgot the deadline was next week for a submission. Got it mixed up with politics so looks like to its too late for me to sort one out for that. Will need to do one in politics

On the upside, I get an extra three months to submit a proposal for politics and I can get away with half the word count. Also means I'll be able to take more history classes next year

Every cloud etc

I've got an interview for 3rd year Sports Journalism at UWS next Friday.

Not sure if I actually want to go to it. Without a doubt my last option.

I'm not sure what you're doing atm, or what you've been offered so far.. But I feel you'd be best going and probably getting an offer so then that way you at least have a course to go to :)

It's just that I have to go to Glasgow (from Dunfermline) to get the bus to Ayr. 4hr round trip.

Had a phonecall from Napier today saying they would be making me an offer. Going to have a look around on the 23rd.

So that's my 5th and 4th choices getting back to me. RGU, Sunderland and Glasgow.... take your time folks.

Edited to add: Good luck man!

Ah never factored in the distance. Ayr Is 15 minutes up the road from me pretty much so I didn't even think

Good luck with the others. I'm assuming you'd choose Napier over UWS aye?

Had my UWS interview today, think it went well. Course looks much better than I first thought and their employability looks good. Guy interviewing me was a good laugh and he seemed to be impressed with my work. Hoping I get an offer, so at least I get something. Got nothing concrete from any uni's yet.

Just realised that I've not posted in this thread despite applying for uni the past couple of years. Applying to do Nursing at:

-Queen Margaret (Interview offer)

-Glasgow (rejected)

-Edinburgh (rejected)

-Glasgow Caledonian (Not heard back yet)

-Robert Gordon (Not heard back yet)

The interview for Queen Margaret was an interview selection day but since I'm away in Nepal for three months they've asked if I'll do a skype interview.

Don't expect anything from Caley in a hurry. You'll have a good chance, the school of health is massive and in healthcare, it's well respected, but they're slower than a week in the jail at anything to do with organisation. Good luck. :)

Got a conditional for RGU for year 2 Social Science on the basis that I pass my HNC.

Also been invited to an interview at St Andrews on Monday for international relations and modern history.

Still to hear back from Napier, Dundee and Stirling.

Guys what's the deal with SAAS? How do I apply? Also, I'm planning on just not turning up to my HND course (I've accepted the offer) If I get an offer for uni, how would this affect SAAS etc?

http://www.saas.gov.uk/how_to_apply/index.htm - it takes a while but it's fairly straightforward

Also, if you got an offer from the Uni, couldn't you just email the college to say you wouldn't be going? SAAS need to know what course you're doing and where, so that could complicate things if they think you're doing a HND.

Cool. What if I've got a conditional from uni and wouldn't find out until August if I'm going to uni or college? I'm pretty certain I have to apply before that?

There's a section in the application form for conditionals, you just update it when you get your results. You can put your HND course down as a back up too.

Edit - What die hard doonhamer said

On the SAAS website it says you can apply from April each year, is that right? Or can I apply for funding by this August now?

Pretty sure you can do it from about April/may yeah because the official deadline is always end of June (although the doesn't really mean anything)
