Turbo_dee
Currently levelling up a few gems, mainly my Infernape, Hydreigon, Excadrill and my specialised Sneasel that I use for catching things.
forehead7
specialised Sneasel that I use for catching things. Move set? I need a dawn stone before I can get my Gallade that I've bred for the purposes of catching things. I'm betting my Gallade is better than you're Sneasel. Moves - Mean Look - can't run from battle (had to breed my Gardevoir with a Misdreavus to get Mean Look) - Hypnosis - put the pokemon to sleep (had to level Ralts up to 45 to learn this as Kirlia learns it too late) - Psychic - weaken the Pokemon suffieciently - False Swipe - takes Pokemon's health down to 1hp (Gallade learns this at 53 so had to get Hypnosis before that level on my Ralts) I bred my Ralts so that it would be male(Gallade) and jolly in nature. (increases speed and reduces Sp Attack) I've also leveled up my Ralts while it was holding the Power Anklet and only battled Basculin so that it's speed is fucking high. Probably gonna remove Psychic though, it's a special so won't do as much damage. Probably put Close Combat or Earthquake in. That's why Pokemon isn't just a child's game, the effort and work that's gone into getting me this beast means that it's a fucking science.
Widge
There's a certain problem when you've caught every pokemon in the game. And can only get the remaining ones through trade. For the record though, I had about 20 or so wi-fi battle pokemon, which I spent ages training up, upping sts with carbos, etc so they are maxed out and got them an awsome moveset. My Electivire can nail near enough anything, cause the battles are levelled at 50, so it's speed is phenomenal, especially if you come up against another electric type, cause it absobs any electric attacks, it's brilliant. Only need a Ryperior as my guard and general tank.

We're clearly men of similar ilk then, I put more time and effort than I care to acknowledge! My Sneasel is currently Level 42, and I hatched him on Platinum before trading him over. I've obviously still got to evolve him but I don't have the means or desire to do so yet. Moves: - False Swipe - Slash - Punishment - Ice Punch I had to breed this guy specially, although it's been so long I don't remember the details. He's adamant natured and fully EV trained for attack and speed, and f**k me was that process tedious! I've focused on Attack and Speed so much, that at level 42 it has a Special Attack stat of 32. Besides, I already have a Level 35 Gallade. I won't bore you with the details, but I am going to train this one for battling rather than catching, so no room for False Swipe on this guy. Even has the special egg move Shadow Sneak. But I agree with your final sentiment, some of the game mechanics such as IV breeding are way over my head! The coverage he gets is fucking phenomenal. There isn't much he can't take, particularly when your good at switching with a Gyarados in the team.

I'm down to just needing Whismur, Castform, Gulpin, Turtwig, Budew, Carvivine, Finneon and Glameow. Only 8 non-legendaries now! Turbo, your catcher's shite. Nothing to put it to sleep. You've only got false swipe. I'm disappointed. IV/EV is pretty easy. Individual/Effort values. IVs basically determine the stats of a Pokemon, they're like genes. Good IVs means its stats will be high when it levels up. EVs basically determine how much stats it gets. You should look up EVs if you are training your sneasel. Basculin give two speed EVs. Joltiks give one. It's worth it. My level 49 Kirlia has 104 speed Edited February 16, 2012 by forehead7
forehead7
Will they make a remake of Ruby and Saphire along the lines of Fire-red/Leaf green and HeartGold/SoulSilver? I'd imagine so, could go either way when though. It went Ruby/Sapphire then FireRed/LeafGreen then Emerald. But then it was Diamond/Pearl then Platinum then HeartGold/SoulSilver so I'm not sure whether Grey will come out before Ruby/Sapphire.
Widge
Grey is going to have to be immense to beat B/W, I don't envy the developers. Thing is is it worth it, how much can they change the story, etc.

Haven't played Emerald or Platinum but are the third ones usually better?

Oh aye and yes, they really need to get going with the legendaries, they've taken long enouhg.
Turbo_dee
Turbo, your catcher's shite. Nothing to put it to sleep. You've only got false swipe. I'm disappointed. IV/EV is pretty easy. You should look up EVs if you are training your sneasel. Basculin give two speed EVs. Joltiks give one. It's worth it. My level 49 Kirlia has 104 speed Yes, but it's extremely fast and has a strong attack. Which means once it has performed it's job, I switch to my Level 100 Jolteon so he can use thunder wave. I know what IV/EV's are, but the breeding process required to get a perfect set of IV's, with 31 in each stat is outrageous! The only thing I've bred to have good IV's was my Hydreigon, it has 31 for Speed and Special Attack. I gave it 252 EV's in both Speed and Special Attack as well, it is truly majestic the way it can almost destroy anything. With the moves I have it has brilliant coverage. That took a lot of effort to go through that whole process, and I don't think I could repeat it very often. And for the record, my Level 52 Sneasel has 173 speed. My Level 35 Gallade already has 93 speed and 137 attack. Will they make a remake of Ruby and Saphire along the lines of Fire-red/Leaf green and HeartGold/SoulSilver? I really hope they do, Hoenn was absolutely majestic. One of my favourite regions because those were the games I first played when I got into Pokemon, I had totally missed the first two generations. They better fucking release Keldeo or Genesect with it I dunno, yellow and crystal are pretty poor IMO. Haven't played Emerald or Platinum but are the third ones usually better? Are Keldeo and Genesect available anywhere at the moment? I presume they might be even Pokemon in Japan, perhaps? Genesect in particular looks sweet. I played Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald and Emerald was by far the best. You had both teams to contend with which made it brilliant, the small changes always worked. Platinum was in my opinion far superior to Diamond, I've still not completed it fully!

There's been info leaked about an upcoming film which Keldeo will be in so it looks like it might be released soon.

Was the last film the one about Darkrai?
forehead7
Recently acquired a second ds so I traded over all my Soul Silver pokemon onto White, so I decided to do a mystery egg run on SS. (basically you get someone to give you random eggs and you just play the game with them), you're supposed to start with 6 but I couldn't not go without my Typhlosion. I got given Diglett, Shinx, Drifloon, Meditite and Spheal to add to my Cyndaquill. The guy was really decent about the eggs so that I have someone who can learn surf/fly etc. Just taking down the fighting gym on the Island place. It's pretty fun!

yoda
I was discussing this with a few of my mates the other day (childhood nostalgia topics), and the Pokemon games were really fucking dark considering they were aimed at children. Gene splicing and stem cell research (Mewtwo) Impregnating a Pokemon against its will (Mew) A tower filled with Pokemon graves, in a town with music that creeped the f**k out of everyone, with people in the town trying to creep the f**k out of you (Lavendar Town) A Pokemon that hypnotised children and led them away, never to be seen again (Hypno) We also found it fairly amusing that the only Italian in the original Red/Blue was the head of a massive criminal orgainsation Anyway I found these two things to be quite cool:

So there's so much incest going on it's ridiculous! About that meme, it's probably done by design. the names are taken to fit the theme of the city and the gym leader. (Cerulean, water, Misty etc). I never noticed the Legendary Birds thing though. I never paid much attention to the names of Hoenn or Unova(I don't know cloud formations) but I guess it's nifty that they keep a steady theme through the games. In other news, I bought Platinum off of eBay on Sunday and it arrived yesterday Still had some of the legendaries on it as well so I just need to trade them over to White and then I'm pretty much done (I need the two roamers from Platinum cause they weren't there and Kyogre/Groundon which I can get one of on SS). I'm trying the Pokeradar thing in Platinum since the previous guy had tonnes of master balls, nuggets and max repels(like 90 of each) so he was obviously a hacker who pokeradar'd
