Was told last week that my contract would not be getting extended when it ran out in a couple of weeks (the 11th).

Had a meeting today at half 4 where I was told that they were terminating my contract immediately but that I would still be paid until the 11th. Was asked to hand over my staff badge then had to gather my 'personal belongings' before being 'escorted' off the premises.

In effect I've been put on 'gardening leave' for 2 weeks. I'll keep an eye out for Declan Devine.

What industry do you work in? I've heard of such instances within the telecoms/construction industry where you are privvy to "sensitive" commercial information.

Why are they not renewing your contract?

In regards to casual racism, I was sitting in the Coral in the city centre where two Chinese lads were loudly speaking away to each other in their native tongue. Some harmless old guy turned to me and my pal and with a cheeky grin on his face said, 'as long as they don't start their kung-fu in here, eh?' Utterly racist but couldn't help sniggering along.

I'd call that racial generalisation as opposed to out and out racism.........not saying its right or acceptable but something akin to us Scots being slagged off for wearing "skirts".

He was right though; someone could have been hurt...

Any idea what their reasoning is, or are they just pure cuntos?

Mostly a load of shite. The manager, who has revealed himself to be a spineless tit, sent me an email yesterday morning asking for a 'chat' at half four, the same 'chat' that had a member of HR and which saw me get punted. No forewarning at all. Comical.

The manager claimed he saw wearing black jeans and trainers at work. I don't even own a pair of black jeans and wear work boots at work. He had recently asked the male staff to wear 'dress shirts' and 'work trousers' because he had just got a new manager who has a commercial background. I always wore a black polo shirt, greyish 'work trousers' and work boots. I was going to buy some shirts but then was told my contract wasn't getting renewed so thought I wouldn't waste my money. The dress code had never officially changed; it was just something the new manager wanted because he's a salesman and thinks in a very salesman esque linear fashion.

It was claimed I left at quarter to 6 on Wednesday without telling anyone, thus posing a 'fire hazard' as they didn't know I had left the building. What actually happened was that I left the room I was in at 10 to 6 as I had finished what I was doing, went for a pish, then went to reception and spoke to my colleague before leaving at 6, which he saw and knew. It was claimed that the lassie in the other room who was overseeing it complained about me leaving. If true then she's a w**k and a fraud of a person. I don't think it is true though.

I was accused of leaving early another time when I had volunteered to help at an open evening. I was due to stay on until 7 but left at 5. It was said that I just left without asking or telling anyone. In actual fact I had to leave so asked my colleagues if it was ok, to which they said yes as it wasn't that busy. So I did ask and they did know.

It was claimed that there was a problem with my 'call stats' (every 2nd week we have to take turns working in the phone taking all the calls that come in to the business). I had been pulled into a meeting a couple of weeks ago to be told about such stats, but until then I didn't know I was doing anything 'wrong' as I had worked the same way for 10 months without a single comment. I took on board what he said and changed how I did it, but seemingly this wasn't good enough.

He also said I had poor timekeeping. This isn't true. I was late a few times, but that was due to the bus being late. I'm utterly dependent on the bus to get in, as unless I pay £20 every day for a taxi, I have no other way to get in. He simply replied that it was my responsibility to ensure I was on time.

Finally it was alleged that some of the team had made complaints about me. He never said who or what they were about. I find this one funny as I got on well with the whole team, except one lassie (see the thread 'Out Of The Mouths Of Babes'), although even then I didn't really dislike her. I think she did cry about me, but she's a tit and a psycho.

It's worth pointing out that, save for one 3 minute meeting about the call stats, the manager never once gave me the impression that I was not 'performing' or ever said anything to me. He's a really shit manager and exceptionally weak and incompetent (not bitterness; this is one of the first things the team said to me when I joined in July last year and since then it has been proven to be true). I thought that personally he was actually a decent guy but his snideyness has changed that.

Worked at an educational establishment (not a school).

When I was told my contract wasn't being renewed it was claimed it was because there were folk coming back from maternity and that there wasn't enough room in the team (the place was merged with a similar place in Kirkcaldy and the whole department (and indeed every other department) is being restructured, and folk who don't fit in other departments are punted to customer services.

It sounds like they just don't have the money and instead of being honest about it are blaming others for their own shortcomings. My mum worked in a college and although she left rather than being sacked, they were all being made to compete with each other before half of them got sacked, as if the financial problems the college had were their faults to start with

.

Whatever you do don't take it to heart or get down on yourself/lose cofidence because they're being tits. In a lot of work situations as well as more personal ones, it's the one who does nothing wrong that ends up being left with no faith in themself because someone else is the c**t. Just keep your chin up and possibly leave a shite in his letterbox.

I getting a two week paid holiday in effect so not really bothered about it. I said my bit in the meeting and the HR lass was taking notes so it's on record.

The whole 'being escorted' off the premises was strange as the meeting wasn't heated and no one was angry. What did they think I would do? I onlt had 14 minutes of the shift left anyway!

I didn't know what to feel last night. Had a good sleep and feel alright now. Got 2 weeks off a job I didn't like during which I get full pay and have a great opportunity to find something new. Just going to move on and forget about all.

Oh and the shite has just been posted.

I'd say there was enough to be going on with, particularly the time keeping. Being escorted out is standard practice if a meeting ends in termination of a contract.

Nah it was all ill informed pish (ans one outright lie) to which there were reasonable answers. The time keeping was me being no more than 10 minutes late and in the space of a year it happened about 6 times. I was never absent once the whole time I was there.

If, for whatever reason, someone wants rid of you. 6 times is a pattern indictating poor timekeeping. You've given them the ammunition to fire at you, between that and a few other minor incidences of misconduct.

Many minors make gross misconduct.

There weren't any other incidents of misconduct though. It was ill informed and wrong conlusions drawn by a man who is notorious for hiding.

I can see your point though.
