In order to shift the weight I've put on since quitting smoking as quickly as possible I've decided to go Atkins. Not a fan of "fad" diets and the like but I just want this weight shifted ASAP.

Had chicken wrapped in bacon with cheese for ma tea.

I love this diet.

It does work - tried it yonks ago and shifted stones. Trouble is that you end up feeling dreadful after a month or two because you're essentially poisoning yourself. Wouldn't recommend it for more than a few weeks. Plus, it'll put you right off bacon, so is it really worth it?

I'd recommend the Norovirus diet - lost a stone in the past week somehow, and I'd kill my own granny for a piece of pork. Quality.

That was a few years ago, swarley, he'd struggle to get back up nowadays. I'm the same. As billy Connolly Said, you make a series of involuntary grunts and groans every time you bend down when you get older.

Two weeks is the plan. I've put about a stone on so I reckon that'll be enough to get it off again.

Fair play. You'll probably still be enjoying it well enough by then.

Just don't use the lavvy when anyone else is in the house  :yucky

Is there any science stuff behind the Atkins? It seems all you're doing is cutting calories by severely limiting what you can eat.
Although a bacon wrapped turkey leg for breakfast sounds good.

You're cutting carbs as well if all you eat is meat.

The science is that despite all the supposed science behind it, it's simply a calorie controlled diet. Saw a good documentary on it.

You can absolutely stuff yourself senseless on Atkins, so long as you stick to meats and dairy, at least to begin with. Ketosis is the word I was looking for but couldn't remember. Your body hunkers down and burns fat for energy, for want of anything else. There are a lot of folk who'll say it's perfectly healthy, but the foul-smelling shits and ferocious body odours make it difficult to take them entirely seriously. Lots of other potential side-effects too, including lethargy, which I remember all too well.

It just gets to be too much hassle, eventually. Finding things to eat when outside the house is a chore, unless you're going to a restaurant. Say bye-bye to picking up a quick sandwich on your lunch break. I know some folk like bringing in their own food to work, but f**k that shit.

I lost nigh on three stone over a couple of months - I wouldn't recommend the chemo/radiotherapy route for everyone, mind. Two years on, and I've managed to put about half a stone back on.
