peasy23
Ben O'Conner racing for yellow. Virtual leader on the road wi 21 km left, but Pogacar has UAE starting to ride hard. They've already clawed it back before they really start the climb, Quintana toiling now but will still be wearing dots at the end.

As there's bound to be an acceleration from the peleton.

peasy23
Not really sure what happened to McNulty tbh, looks like he glances over his shoulder to see who is behind and rides straight into the ditch.

btb
Gotta wonder if Ineos would've done better leaving it to Pogacer to keep O'Conner out of yellow? Edited July 4, 2021 by btb

Dan Roan of the BBC has been sceptical too, especially after the Jiffy bag controversy and Richard Freeman case. Cobrelli, a sprinter/puncheur came 3rd on a big mountain stage and easily beat recent GT winners in appalling weather, That alien performance certainly deserves scrutiny.

However I do accept on that particular stage could be considered unusual. He has a solid enough palmares with races at big one day races like brabantse pijl which includes MVdP, Alaphilippe and Pidcock as recent winners, none of whom I would class as pure sprinters, to suggest that he is more than capable on classics type stages to be amongst the leaders.

That's true but Cobrelli put a minute into Carapaz! This was the stage profile. There was nothing in Cobrelli's palmares that indicated that he could climb like a mountain goat in the Alps. I'm not accusing him of anything but scrutiny of such an incredible performance in dreadful weather is justified.

If only the sudden asthma-suffer Wiggins was on the panel that day, the many questions around his banned substance use don’t stop them employing him.

It's amazing how chronic asthma suffers (especially Froome) can win so many Grand Tours.

buddie06smfc
Crosswind stages are tremendous viewing. It was great to see Carapaz, Uran etc having a go there, although not to great effect.
