Why is there a lawyer representing the young man if there’s no serious allegations being made?

To help with anonymity.  The person may be thoroughly mortified by what is happening. If it is a male, they may not be openly gay, or gay at all. There could be a number of reasons they don't want their name in the public domain

Their mother identified them as a "crackhead" as well which could be false, or if true a source of embarrassment.

I thought the "family were disappointed the BBC didn't contact them for full interview" was interesting. Surely they'd have been better contacting the police if they wanted to give a full interview and wasn't in any way a cash making exercise.

Called it.

Hopefully that’s the final nail in the coffin of The Sun.

Absolutely.  I hope the two BBC “stars” whose names are all over the place are able to take some kind of action, because it’s quite clear the Sun knew it would start a dog pile.  The editor just scented blood.

Well this just got a whole lot crazier

Did it?  Or did social media and the Sun just combine to give a mouth to the absolute worst of society?

There’s gold in them thar hills?

Either money from hushing it up or money from suing the paper. Perhaps even double dip by taking hush money, then when it’s uncovered, saying you were manipulated into denying the claim and then suing the BBC for employing him?

If their mother is a flighty, facebook maw, that could be anything from using CBD to a recreational habit

So you’re telling me that the editor and staff of the Sun have potentially acted like total scum without any regard for potentially ruining people’s lives?

Couldn’t have seen that coming.

They've done their job as they set out to do. Everyone is talking about it and they've added fuel to fire for #DefundThe BBC twitter blue tick mob.

They'll be happy no matter.

Sun seem to be backing away a bit.

On bbc feed:

We have just received a statement from the Sun newspaper, responding to a lawyer representing the young person, which disputes their mother's account of events

A spokesperson for the Sun said: "We have reported a story about two very concerned parents who made a complaint to the BBC about the behaviour of a presenter and the welfare of their child.

Quote Message: Their complaint was not acted upon by the BBC. We have seen evidence that supports their concerns. It’s now for the BBC to properly investigate."

Calling the Sun editors and staff total scum seems a bit harsh on your average scum. I prefer vermin.

If the Sun had watertight facts, or even spoken to the victim, they would have named him and published the picture of his arse with no concern for his wellbeing, Even if there had been no money changing hands or even pictures sent by the teen, The picture of the male would be enough.

They knew there wasn't enough to go in two footed without ending up in court.

It's a bit odd that the Sun didn't name him in a Sunday blockbuster exclusive, and that the BBC are hinting that they haven't been able to get in touch with the family making the complaints. I wonder if the Sun has been sold a pup by a rogue freelancer.
