Confidemus Posted April 8, 2014 Share Posted April 8, 2014 The show is largely being saved by Jaime Lannister imo, he was involved in 3 of the best scenes last night, with Tywin, Joffrey and Cersei. Carl Cort's Hamstring Posted April 8, 2014 Share Posted April 8, 2014 Couldn't disagree more. For one thing, the books and TV show are doing very different things. I've been enjoying both, but where the TV show is just telling a story, as a single narrative, the books are much more subtle and metafictional - their strength is the way they make great use of different perspective and states of knowledge and the interaction between history and narrative. Impossible to recreate that on telly, and I'd be greatly saddened if he wasn't able to see it through. I think this is a really good point, and demonstrates why it could never really be the same. The fact that it's all third person does mean some characters suffer a bit though. I think Jon Snow is a far more interesting character in the books than in the tv show, purely because you get it all from his point of view. While people like Tyrion and Bronn who get lots of good lines tend to shine more (which is why we need more Dolorous Edd IMO). 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Don't know why, but the replacement - Michael (sp?) Huisman - is a decent actor who played Sonny in Treme. Shae is a shite character in the adaptation and the actress who plays her is simply awful, the worst thing about the show I'd say. That aside it was a good episode and having read the books you can see things are being set up nicely, I'm going to try my best not to be a book bore about this season but even in this episode we had a dose of pointless nudity with so much story to tell I wish they'd avoid the needless titillation. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

How has Janos Slynt found himself in a position of authority so soon after joining the Watch? IIRC from the books, knights or Lords are generally automatically officers when joining the Night's Watch. I honestly can't remember if Tywin's letter is in the TV show or not, but it's not a massive plot point.
