A great feeling at Cappielow..

That team had Gary Hooper in it. You know, the guy who was on Match of the Day last night, scoring a cracking goal. He scored all four goals that night.

That team was dropping points left, right and centre champ, yet still easily pumped Raith. As opposed to the rampant Celtic side of this season, who have lost to just one domestic opponent so far this season.

Thanks for playing anyway.

Come back when you've actually beaten them in a game that mattered. We got a trophy when we beat them. How did Morton do in the next round? Looking forward to the semi-finals?

Thanks for playing.

*sigh*

Anyway, someone over on the Morton forum seems fairly confident that Kenny Shiels will be the next Morton boss. Would be pretty happy with that personally, seems like the kind of character who is not averse to kicking some arses, which some of our lot seem to require.

Seriously though, does this 'get tough' approach actually work now ? Don't think managers like McVeigh, Lambie would do well now in this different age . People in general , never mind footballers, are more mollycoddled now and don't react well to getting bawled at. Best way to get them playing for you is to get them onside without the hard man approach. Roy Keane is a good example of a very good , no nonsense match analyser but manager ?

Obviously you're not able to attend games, but the problem isn't a lack of effort. It's a total lack of quality across every department, crucially up front.

I think Shiels is by far and away the best candidate for the job, and there ought to be some improvement, but he'll have to pull off a miracle to stop us heading into the play-offs at best, given the gap to the sides above and the last three fixtures before the year is out. In all likelihood it could be 12/13 points to claw back in 18 matches.

I don't believe that the old school style would work these days, agreed, but the correct balance needs to be found. You still need someone that isn't afraid to give someone a bollocking, if they deserve it and if you feel that they can react to it and not go into their shell. That's where good man management comes in I suppose.

It's a tough balance, and must be hard to stay calm as a coach when your players are just not playing as you want them to.

The bare minimum that should be asked of a manager is to organise and set out a team well, regardless of quality of player at his disposal.

As you say, other than seeing a 2 minute clip per week, I'm not in a position to comment on the quality of our squad, but there is a spine of good quality individuals in that team that, given the correct leadership and guidance, might be able to scrape us over the line.

Hilarious thread on Morton Forum at the moment as Inverclyde's unemployed question the credentials of the CEO in interviewing potential managers.

This would of course entail the CEO having firstly, had a succession of jobs and secondly, being successful in them. For some unknown reason these oafish masses have found a reason to question the person's capabilities.

By the way, did I mention the Morton CEO is a woman?..
