GunnerBairn
Lame or not, this programme keeps the case firmly in the public eye and keeps pressure and momentum on H & D. The best bit for me is that H & D could be forcibly removed by another, more legit, administrator. This saga could be set to return to square one again! I really really hope so. Please...

chrismcarab
The lawyer I use for my business stuff writes data protection policies for BBC and she's made it clear to me that anything to do with BBC receiving and then broadcasting information has to be bullet and bombproof. They take no chances whatsoever so just imagine what they didn't broadcast. That will be juicy stuff. More fun to follow...... Sorry for the dodgy reference to bombs in a Rangers thread....

ayrmad
Folks can think what they like about tonights programme. SFA fcuked, Ogilvy fcuked, D&P fcuked, Murray shown to be a worm, D&P reps and Whyte will face disciplinary and/or criminal action. Green will be outed in the same manner.
GirondistNYC
1337806056[/url]' post='6266396']i'm talking here about the evidence presented in the program. the first quote is half a sentence. the second quote refers to something specified earlier in the document. the third one is confirmation of the use of EBTs. now is it more likely that daly left out pertinent info or that he has took quotes deliberately out of context? * even although the evidence here is weak i think rangers will correctly lose the case, * i'm interested in anyone who has knowledge or an opinion on why EBTs were first signed off by the treasury and hmrc? * has anyone asked what the sfa believed was happening with the millions pouring out rangers into EBTs every year that they had documentary evidence of? They presented a clear link indicating that in two players cases payments to EBTs were in direct replacement of salaries that would be paid in ordinary course. They then went onto list on the program and on their website players who were linked to side letters, naming several prominent players as beneficiaries thereof. That would seem to be a pretty obvious case where a news organization is absolutely positive about its facts but cannot reveal specific language from documents due to legal restrictions. I am not a UK lawyer but I know enough to know the intersection of libel law, data protection / confidentiality and ongoing judicial and quasi-judicial processes might make it prudent for the BBC not to release five pages of a side letter in which Barry Ferguson is promised £ x a year, £ y a game and £ z if he avoids getting drunk on Scotland duty will be available through his EBT. But the fact that they were so specific about names, amounts and the existence of side letters in the face of those legal constraints leads me to believe they have a pretty damn good gun and it's smoking. Frankly, though, I think the Duff & Phelps stuff is a bit of a red herring from the perspective of "how do we send the shattered remnants of Rangers down to the Third in the glare of public derision". What's done is done on that front and switching administrators now would be...messy. Also, I think Stuart Adamson would be bitterly unhappy to have Big Country associated with Rangers, even at their BBC wake (I am aware he hated Celtic too, btw)

p&b is a disgrace
i got the impression that the quotes were from the time watterues and papac joined rangers so their wages were never reduced. they were always low. The query was "why has Papac salary reduced? Is he now being paid via an EBT?"

Musketeer Gripweed
Murray should go to jail. Agreed. Going by the evidence tonight, he doesn't have a leg to stand on. -
dave.j
Even more proof that the only way rangers could compete in Scotland was by cheating. In the time spent using EBT's rangers lost leagues and cups. That's fckin embarrassing in its self. The other stuff off the pitch is comedy gold. So many folk for rangers fans to sling mud at. How much has that fighting fund raised? Anything significant yet?
keepitsafe
For those disappointed (or even pleased) that the programme was a little tame, or light on explicit detail, don't forget that the BBC lawyers are notoriously cautious. Nothing that could possibly prejudice any ongoing legal investigation would have been permitted on air. Nothing that could see the BBC paying $ in a libel case would have been broadcast. Usually in complex investigations such as the whole sordid RFC episode, journalists are drip-fed information from knowledgeable sources, stuff that ethics permit only to be used when there's 100% proof and no risk of legal shenanigans. Aficionados of 'All The Presidents Men' will see parallels here. Does the fourth estate have juicier stuff yet to officially see the light of day? I'd put my house on it. Also, don't forget that this was a primetime BBC documentary targeted at a broad swathe of audience, not anoraks (such as me) who spend far too long reading this thread. Made certain details far more prominent in the public consciousness, which can only be a good thing. (edited for typos) Agreed. Hoped for more tbh. Still. I'll just have to be patient, I suppose.
