Wouldn't trust that EFL hub twitter account tbh, all the replies from the Charlton fans seem to put allot more stock on the word of the local press who are reporting it as a five figure fee.

5 figures would be disappointing, especially where there's been interest from multiple clubs, but hopefully there would be value in sell on fees.

It would tie in with the release clause rumour that has been doing the rounds for a while.

If the release clause was a thing, maybe Charlton have bid a bit above it before it comes into effect so as to guarantee the player? Who knows though.

If there is a release clause then it would be a bit disappointing that we haven’t got more given the paper talk around the number of clubs interested. But £100k and a big sell on would be decent particularly if it’s cash up front.

I'd not be putting eggs in the basket of a potential sell on fee. Don't see him moving on beyond that level.

He doesn't need to go beyond that level to demand a transfer fee that's pretty modest for Charlton, but significant to us. As soon as a player starts moving in the EFL, we all know their value is inflated. But you are right, no guarantees there's a future fee. He's in the right league though for giving us the opportunity of a decent sell-on fee if things go well for him.

850K

you heard it here first

Get yourself out of here. There's already some wildly outrageous speculation online, mainly due to a bizarre Charlton fanboi account on Twitter, and you've clearly been drinking the same kool-aid. It's not going to help morale one bit when Josh goes for barely 100K. 😂

I forgot to add, “and a pickled egg” 🥚

High 5 figure and high 6 figure have been clearly mixed up.

The 90k rumoured sounds realistic if he agreed to extend for another year as long as we sell for a realistic sum when a bigger club comes in for him.

Hopefully the accountants at Charlton get mixed up and pay the invoice for £900k rather than £90k.

It's a weird one, because the figure knocked back in the winter window was six figures, reported in numerous papers. Another was knocked back recently and we've obviously said what we want and it's been met, however now Charlton fans and a couple of English rumour pages on Twitter are saying it's five figures, one guy saying that the journo who said it never gets it wrong. Josh Edwards is IMO worth a six figure sum, but a lower end, say £150K most. If we managed to get anything over £500K then that's ridiculous business.

To go back to this, from the supporters meetings at the times it was mentioned that we had an option to extend Edwards contract for another, would it be surprising if this extension didn't come with the caveat of having a release clause?

I don't find it implausible that we knocked back a bid (Say low 6 figures like 150-200 tops) because we were in a relegation battle with half the squad being injured. The board would've been aware of any release clause, and if the difference really is say 60k it's a no brainier to keep him, have him help us avoid relegation and wish him well in the summer.

Aye that would be my understanding, he stays to see us over the safety line, because the extra year was taken up we're guarantee money for him and let him go when the fee is met. It's funny at the last supporters meeting McPake really played down Edwards leaving, saying there had been no concrete interest and he fully expected to see him on the first day of pre-season. I fully expected Josh Edwards to be away. If we can sort the final ball he could be a very good left back/left wing back for years to come. He's still a good player but the final ball can be a bit hit or miss.

I think one of the biggest reasons clubs will be interested is not only his attacking ability but his availability. I'm sure he's the top appearance holder at the club and is only 24, he played 90 minutes in every single game last season bar one. That's not to be sniffed at.
