madmitch
Tonight I have been tasting BrewDog beers for the first time in a while. I've realised how good they are again, just wish they would sell them in 500ml bottles (preferably at Williams Bros price): 5 AM Saint: They seem to have changed this a little, seemed more malty and with a creamier head since the last time I drank it. Still really good though 7.5/10 Dead Pony Club: Despite its 3.8% ABV this American pale ale has plenty of flavour. Credit where its due I've added a mark due to the low ABV 8/10 Punk IPA: Probably the best IPA I have tasted, I cant believe I have not tried this in about three years 9/10 Just goes to show there is no accounting for taste. I think punk IPA is awful. I am a real fan of pale ale but I'm afraid Punk had me really struggling to finish the bottle.

This used to be my local. It used to be privately owned and was then sold on to a brewery. When it was privately owned, it had a very extensive range of beer and whisky. It also used to have De Konick (sp) belgian beer on tap, which was fantastic.
YOGI IS GOD
There's a new specialist beer shop in Glasgow called Hippo on Queen Margaret Drive, nice wee shop with an interesting selection of fancy beers - http://hippobeers.co.uk/ Edited January 28, 2013 by YOGI IS GOD
Derek Patterson
There's a new specialist beer shop in Glasgow called Hippo on Queen Margaret Drive, nice wee shop with an interesting selection of fancy beers - http://hippobeers.co.uk/ Had a quick swatch in there a couple of weeks back. Pretty decent. Got some stuff that The Cave/Quel Vin don't have.
madmitch
There's a new specialist beer shop in Glasgow called Hippo on Queen Margaret Drive, nice wee shop with an interesting selection of fancy beers - http://hippobeers.co.uk/ From their website I noticed this Finally, the jewel in the crown is Odell Deconstruction. A 10.5% Golden Ale aged in wine barrels. It was created by blending the final recipe beer with its own barrel aged pilot beers and was fermented with wild yeasts. A very special beer not to be missed! Odell Deconstruction was one of the beers at the recent tasting in the Good Spirit Company. It was amazing. But at £18 a bottle I passed on buying some.
Derek Patterson
#46 Beer: Samuel Smith's - Winter Welcome Ale Abv: 6.0% Style: Winter Warmer/Strong ale Aromas: Some light spice, little bit of cinnamon maybe, biscuity malt, nutty, hint of citrus, something almost creamy Taste: Reminds me quite a bit of the Clootie Dumpling stuff from Orkney though perhaps slightly less sweet. Has those festive spices in there but perhaps with a wee bit more bitterness, some caramel/toffee, faint herbal notes Overall: Similair to the previous review this is a spicy, seasonal brew. Not the best thing Sam Smith's do but still really nice stuff. Definately one of those beers for a cold winter's night as opposed to one you'd drink chilled in the summer. No sure that the supermarkets will have it but The Cave at Kelvinbridge has plenty of it in. Don't rush to buy it but if you're in then try some. 7.5/10
lau03143
I was drinking a few beers over the weekend... Schlenkerla Lagerbier This stuff was weird, tasted very much like smokey bacon crisps.
lau03143
Hofbräu Münchner Kindl Weisse I really liked this. I probably prefer this to the likes of Franziskaner.
lau03143
Hofbräu Original Helles and Paulaner Helles Two great beers from Munich. Both far superior to any Lagers from the UK.

Apart from the colour, Bavarian Pilsners have nothing in common with our poor lagers, A far superior commodity, all in all.
lau03143
I'm having a lazy Sunday afternoon Fraoch Heather Ale. Been a few years since I last had it, and I've been missing out! Very tasty!

)typically
Tap Room Brewery (Rochester NY) IPA at 6.3% a nice robust IPA but not as good as Punk IPA which is still my favourite IPA. Though clearly most other posters on this thread disagree with me. I give the Tap Room IPA 7/10 and still rate Punk IPA at 9/10 as I am on to a 660ml bottle of that as I type. I tried the American Double from Tesco that was mentioned earlier in the thread (aka Hardcore IPA) and it is just too strong for a beer IMO. When beer gets above 8% you are better off drinking decent wine.
Derek Patterson
Was just in Tesco, Crieff Road Perth. They've got the Double American IPA (Brewdog Hardcore IPA) on offer at £1.70 a bottle just now. Usually £1.99. Good deal as the Brewdog branded one is a good bit dearer despite being the same beer. Would imagine all Tesco have the same stuff on offer.

Are any of the other Tesco branded ales worth trying? I bought a bottle of Young's Double Chocolate Stout instead.
