The Moonster
If pitch size is trivial and doesn't matter that much then why change it? We don't have big huge guys to dominate these balls into the box and tbh, how many teams have you seen use a long throw to good affect at this level? It's just another braindead decision from a management team in desperation mode. I'll happily eat my hat if it works out but it's not a tactic I think will suit us. We've closed in the pitch by a few yards, so what? Will it make that much difference? Probably not. Stevie can throw about whatever reason he likes whether it's for long throws, better defending, drainage or rangers wanted it. At the end of the day we could play on a 5 a side pitch as long as we have a decent attempt at winning football matches which unfortunately is the main issue and what's lacking at the minute. Of course it makes a difference. It looks to me like he’s taken it in as far as the rules allow and if we are trying to play with any sort of width (which we should be with guys like C.Wilson and MacLean in the team) then a narrow pitch wont suit us at all. Considering we barely had anyone getting on the end of set pieces the whole of last season I’m not entirely sure why he’s suddenly thinking we’ll have players getting on the end of a long throw, which is less effective than a well taken free kick or corner. Narrowing the pitch because 1 guy in the team apparently has a long throw is daft. I’ve actually tried defending Farrell a bit on here recently but we’re now left with a daft narrow pitch for the whole season because 1 guy (who could break his leg tomorrow) has a long throw in.
Neilly
We have two guys with long throws and it's something we use pretty regularly. Our goal on Saturday came from a second phase after initial throw in was headed clear. I do quite like them in all honesty. Farrell has made it easier for other clubs who have a long throw specialist as well which I think he may have forgotten in his eternal wisdom. First team who rock up at your gaff and score from a long throw is going to create more absolute seethe from the home faithful.

Can be a good shot stopper, flaps at crosses, prone to a kicking howler. Don't play him when it's windy.
Tenkay
I vaguely remember a wee fat mouthy clown you's had in goals when we beat you 4-1 at Ainslie Park and was praying it wasn't him we'd signed!!! I just looked it up, and Thankfully, I see Ramsbottom was on the bench that night. Surely he can't be worse?

He's a better keeper than Ramsbottom, 2. He's not particularly fat, 3. We weren't playing Civil Service Strollers. So colour me a bit confused.

I'm simply basing my opinion on one single game at Ainslie Park and I remember he cost you two goals that night, but maybe a one off. Also looks like we'll not get excited about signing Ramsbottom then. Good luck to you's next season.

1320Lichtie
Dunno if the narrowing the pitch thing really is just a trivial thing, remember Alloa doing that and watching highlights of it and it looked ridiculous and had a big effect on the games. Obviously don’t know if Dumbarton have narrowed it to the same extent or what, also Alloa done it to try and stay in the league and make games more of a battle. Pretty sure they managed to shitfest a few good results against bigger clubs, potentially even a result against Rangers, but I imagine Dumbarton fans expect to have a team challenging towards the top end of the table and a team towards the top end of the table in theory would be looking to have a bigger pitch so their better (in theory) players can take advantage of the space to beat poorer teams Maybe it’s not that simple but taking space away from players would usually be a thing a weaker side would want to do to a better side and Dumbarton fans would probably expect them (or at least hope) to be one of the better sides In the league Strange move for me

The first time was midway through 2015/16, our third Championship season. Our great team of that era had broken up that summer and Danny Lennon had replaced them with shite. Lennon left in December and Jack Ross came in and realised the squad was garbage so pulled the pitch in. Idea was to make us hard to beat but also I think to get in the heads of the opposition. It worked to an extent, we did draw with Rangers and beat Hibs. We still got relegated but with a respectable enough points total. At the end of the season Ross signed better players and made the park bigger again. The second occasion was different. We came up from from League 1 (against Sons in the play-offs) with a really good footballing side and subsequently added quick wide men. The chairman was then quoted as saying he had told Jim Goodwin about how it had worked for Jack Ross and they had agreed to do it again. We were left with a park which worked against us and it took us months to get used to it. We actually got shitfested on it twice by the dreadful Falkirk team of the time and in the end we did pretty much as well away from home as we did at the Recs. By far the worst decision Goodwin made and one IMO that pushed us from being comfortable enough to almost getting relegated. Football was shite to watch both times, but particularly frustrating when you knew it was working against us. Doing it for the benefits of long throws seems pretty random but who knows, maybe a masterstroke by Farrell.

Mine arrived today too. It transpired that my postie is an Aberdeen fan. He decided to pretend that we had some sort of chance tonight because of the St Jonstone result last night.
