We can hope and pray it may be Newbury but I think he’ll get game time with accies this season. Newbury has come on as a sub once so far, in a comfortable win over Stranraer. I'd have thought if Hamilton were looking at having him as an option he'd have played a bit more and I suspect he'll be made available for loan soon. Whether we get him is another matter, I reckon he could play for a top end League 1 team no problem. Hopefully we'd be well placed to get him though, it would add another guy who knows the squad well and there's no real bedding in to do.
BallochSonsFan
Newbury probably isnt what we desperately need right now. I'd have him back in a heartbeat, but he's a smart defensive midfielder who reads the game well and can give his defence a bit of protection. We've got Niang to be the ball winning midfielder, so unless we were going to go with Newbury, Niang and Gray then I'm not sure where he fits in? He could play as a central defender to partner Durnan, but I think he was better when we pushed him into midfield.
O'Kelly Isley III
For a few reasons I'd be surprised if Newbury returns. Firstly, Faz said at the Meet The Manager session that the question had already been asked and the answer had been negative. Secondly, I think the conduit for the original loan was Sean Crighton and he's no longer with us. Finally, the lad was again in the Accies squad at Kirkcaldy yesterday and it suggests that he's now part of the first-team set-up.

I can’t see any other reason we haven’t made a move for someone - other than we’re waiting for a loan player to be available.

I'd imagine the main reason will be that he wants to right player to come in and be a starter for the season, more or less. This isn't just adding cover for the squad, due to Crighton leaving when he did. We need a first choice CB and I think that is reason enough not to rush into signing someone. Finding someone of the standard will be difficult, most of the guys who are established at this level or similar, are signed up - again, due to the timing of Crighton leaving. A loanee will possibly be the best option for us, but most of the Premiership (and Championship) clubs don't make decisions on who they are willing to let go out on loan until mid to late August. Our loan window is open til the end of September and sometimes we need to wait until we are half a dozen games into the season before good loan options are made available from their parent club. None of that helps our immediate need for a new CB though...

PWL
Really hoping for the and emojis today. Don't fancy going into this campaign with one proper specialist centre half. We saw the collapse in form last year when we made do. If we get sorted before Saturday I'll be much more confident going into what is a very winnable first game.

So he's getting there. I reckon the Berwick Challenge Cup game might be his first start and they'll look to get him 60/70 minutes. 11 hours ago, Sons Fan said: That should be a new feature in the programme.
