The compensatory draft picks have been allocated and the 49ers get an additional three picks. I believe that brings them up to around fourteen total meaning that they're almost required to make a trade(s) as there just aren't that many young guys that will make a roster never mind one as good as San Francisco's. Compensatory picks themselves can't be traded.

Madness. Will be interesting to see how many actually make the team next season and how many will either be cut or signed to the practice squad

None of their draft picks last season made any sort of impact and they still reached the Super Bowl. It's crazy.

How long do you think Locker has to prove himself? Good draft class of QB's next year. Similar situation with Gabbert, Ponder, Freeman and maybe even Weeden. If they don't perform, is it time to go in a different direction?

He has 6 games. If we are anything less than 3-3 he's done, It's boom or bust for us this season. I feel a bit sorry for him. He was injured week 1 last season due to a ridiculous call by the replacement refs and never recovered.

I really like him. Great mentality. Yes, he has accuracy issues but has a canon arm and can take off and run with the best of them. For me he can be the next Brett Favre given the chance.

Hasselbeck signs for the Colts and Fitzpatrick go's to the Titans on a 2 year deal

Delighted with this. Better, younger backup QB on half the money. Colts love our castoffs.

David Carr re-signs with the Giants for another year Best backup in the league

Sorry, based on what?

Carr - 18 games in 6 years 110/197 55.8% 1,061 yards 6 TD 6 INT 33yo

Fitzpatrick - 68 games in 6 years 1262/2114 59.7% 13,559 yards 88TD 73INT 30 yo

That's just one example I can think of. I would rather have a number of other backup QB's than expansion man.

I have to agree that it's Fitzpatrick.

The others are fair shouts and I'll toss in Kyle Orton too. However Fitz has a few things they don't have in that he is just a matter of months removed from an almost four season spell as starter, is an extremely bright guy who contributes excellently in meetings and was a multi-year captain in Buffalo.

It's a great signing for Tennessee imo.

DT Sammie Hill signed with Titans (three-year deal worth $11.4 million)
CB Drayton Florence signed with Panthers (one-year deal)

Jason Hanson is currently trying to flesh out a deal with Detroit but valuation is a stumbling block. Hope a deal can be reached and he's around for another season. Still an excellent kicker despite his age (last season he was 32/36 in FG's although there is concern about kickoff distance).

Pretty good offseason but suddenly DE is a massive need. The good thing is with the interior lineman the Lions have they probably don't need a superstar DE for him to be effective. Depth is needed at DT, perhaps a linebacker unless Durant is brought back. Looking pretty good but maybe still too many holes to fill this offseason. O-line needs work with Backus retiring, Peterman being released and Goz going to the Colts and maybe need one more WR.

What interest would posters have in taking say a division apiece or a couple of teams apiece and having a look at their past season, identifying some areas to address, maybe looking at some stats, their moves in free agency and who would be good fits for them in the draft and then doing a wee write up?

That way we can get a good coverage of every team in the league as there's always a squad or two we naturally know little about. It would also probably be more fun and enlightening to avoid our own teams and look at others.

I'm happy to allocate this if there is any interest.

Danny Woodhead has signed for the Chargers. I don't see him working out there, players tend to do nothing before they go to New England, Belichick fits them into his system somewhere and then they do nothing again after leaving New England.

I think he will do okay. Ronnie Brown was the Chargers 3rd down back and had 49 receptions. I agree that if he came back to the Jets, for example, he would do nothing but the Chargers have a spot for him in their offense.
