The Star Wars thread (includes spoilers for IX)

Return of the Jedi was the start of the shitness. Puppets, poor storyline and aimed at kids.

Empire is fantastic, moar of this please.

Absolutley spot on. Empire is easily the best of the Star Wars series. So far, anyway..

The added CGI in Return of the Jedi, especially the band in Jabbas Palace. Should have warned us how shite the prequels were going to be.

The most cringeworthy addition to the original trilogy, for me anyway, was the reintroduction of the previously deleted scene featuring Jabba the Hutt confronting Han in Mos Eisley; the original human actor replaced with a CGI Jabba.

Looks shockingly fake (I know, it's essentially a giant slug) - especially how they worked in the part where Han walks around the back of Jabba, standing on his 'tail' - and just doesn't work ("Jabba, you're a wonderful human being"!!)

I bought a DVD set of the Original Trilogy around ten years ago that had the original theatrical releases as bonus DVDs. If I am to watch any of those films, I always watch those versions. Although the chimpanzee mask as Palpatine in Empire is quite comical. But I much prefer the original noise of the Krayt dragon that Ben impersonates and the original ewoks song much better.

Youre lucky though. The originals arent that easy to get hold of, especially in HD

I have started watching the despecialised edition and the quality is immense. The amount of work the guy has done on them should be commended.

I always forget that the original release didn't have the episode number or name. Also at the time it was the first multi released film to put the credits at the end of the movie. Lucas had an on going battle with the writers guild that wasn't concluded until after Jedi. Originally he wanted Spielberg to direct Jedi but he was guild affiliated do couldn't.

I have the original trilogy on bluray and it's still cellophaned wrapped, no need to open it now I have got these editions.

This is quite possibly the geekiest thing i've ever posted.

We got the trailer before Spectre last night, and it was even more fantastic on the big screen. The bit where the Falcon jumps to hyperspace (which is one of my favourite shots from the trailer btw) was made even more brilliant by the audible whine that the engines make that I don't think you really hear when watching it on the internet.

Basically I'm saying a got a wee Antti Niemi because of a sound effect.

I get the same thing when I hear Obi Wan turn off the tractor beam.

I'm going to try and get these downloaded over the weekend. I had a look at that link you posted, is it fairly easy to get a hold of them?

Not via that link, no. I think a lot of it is out of date. I ended up looking on a torrent site and found them there. Just make sure you check the files in the torrent, and look for the latest versions, which are on that page.

They are big downloads though. New Hope is about 19Gb!

On my mighty 3mbs (on a good day) broadband thanks to being fed off an EO cable, that might take a day or two! If they are as good as you say, I think it'd be worth it.

What have you done with them to play them? Did you burn them onto a BluRay or stream them from a device onto the TV?

I've got a Plex media server setup. I just added the mkv files to that and it streams them :)

ETA - I can give you a login for it if you want to take a look at them

That would be excellent! Although I'm not sure how you go about it!

I was thinking if i could get the mkv files onto my tablet or a USB drive I should be able to stream/play them onto the TV from there.

They can be found on a torrent site that kicks ass.

I downloaded them in a smaller format (.m2ts) and came in around the 8gb per film. I have watched Starwars on the laptop, and intend to hook it up to my TV to watch the other two over the weekend.

As for the tractor beam noise, that is the noise that plays when I lose my erection.

PM me your email address . You'd be able to stream them from my server but not download them

The new shite in the original trilogy is awful. The new NEW stuff is even fucking worse, with Hayden Christiansen's ghost appearing at the end of Jedi and a shot of a Palpatine statue being toppled on Naboo (or something like that). Fucking awful shit.
