Lex
Yet more great news for our union of nations today. A new YouGov poll says that 57% of those polled would prefer to stay in the UK with increased devolved powers, whereas only 35% of those prefer independence. More devolution seems to be very much the will of the people of this country, and i'm firmly in that camp. http://www.bettertogether.net/page/-/YouGov%20survey%20on%20devolution%20%2811%20April%2014%29.pdf Is it polling day yet? That's like saying the majority of Scots would support Spain for the world cup if they were born in Valencia.

Can't wait! Oh dear. Soooooooooo much fail in one post. 1) Better Together commission a poll, yet they don't actually put the referendum question to the public. Why not? 2) Instead, in the hope of getting a lower "Yes" vote, they ask a hypothetical and leading question in its place. 3) Even with this attempt to rig the poll, the "Yes" vote only drops 2% when compared with the last time that YouGov asked their version of the actual referendum question 4) Obviously, the Devo-max & No options are not identical, but the Devo-max option offered in this poll only increases the non-Yes vote by 5% compared with YouGov's previous poll. So, if we compare these 2 most recent YouGov polls, what conclusions can we draw? 1) The Yes vote is hardening. 35/37ths of the Yes vote will stick with Yes even if Devo-max is offered 2) Don't Know has dropped from 11% to 8%. Is this a result of the inclusion of Devo-max? 3) If we take 1 & 2 together, this implies that there are only 5% definite devo-maxers. 4) We don't know whether the remaining 52% of the non-Yes vote are devo-maxers or actually wish for no change Now, the lesson of 1979 shows us that Unionist "jam tomorrow" promises cannot be trusted, so the real question posed by this poll is "Just how big and how soft is the devo-max support?" I strongly suspect that it will be easier to convert a devo-maxer than a hardcore No voter. I also suspect that the hardcore No voters are a minority of the 52%. I'm sure even Lex can see where I'm going here... Oh, and finally, let's just remember that this is a YouGov poll - They are Better Together's favourite pollsters for a reason...
