Guest Bob Mahelp
53 minutes ago, scoobles said: From Edinburgh News section of the Scotsman Paul Heckingbottom confirmed in the aftermath of the 1-1 Betfred Cup draw at Stirling Albion that the club had dropped their interest in signing midfielder Funso Ojo from Scunthorpe. All the chat prior to Saturday's clash at Forthbank was on who had won the race for the 27-year-old Belgian’s signature – Aberdeen or Hibs. As it transpires, Ojo is set to be unveiled at Pittodrie within the next 24 hours. With Hibs having held discussions with the player and his representatives earlier this week, a pitch that head coach Heckingbottom admitted he and the recruitment department were extremely happy with, the former Leeds and Barnsley boss said the club had reached a decision that the “deal was no longer for them”. When probed further by the assembled media, he stressed that any future arrivals at Easter Road must be committing themselves for the “right reasons”. Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen appear to be in a position to offer a more lucrative financial package, not to mention the lure of European football this season. If that ticks the boxes for Ojo, then so be it. The player is perfectly within his right to do what is he feels is best for him and his family. Losing out on a player to one of your rivals is always a bit bruising for a football club. However, it’s not as if the club had put all their eggs in one basket in trying to lure Ojo to the Capital. The recruitment department has been pretty astute in recent seasons when it comes to bringing fresh faces to the club. Ojo is not the only No.6 that Hibs have been talking to. A quick glance at social media would suggest there is a general feeling of disappointment that Ojo has elected to join Aberdeen over the Easter Road side. Conversely, though, can Hibs get better value for money, considering they would have to spend the guts of £125,000 to get the player. Now may be the perfect opportunity for the club to crank up their pursuit of Genoa's Stephane Omeonga, a player tried and tested at this level on loan, back to Leith. Had Ojo signed on the dotted line, the chances of bringing back a player who flourished under Heckingbottom during the second half of last season and loves the club may have been completely over. Furthermore, let’s not bypass the fact that Ojo was part of a team that suffered relegation to English football’s fourth tier last season. He may have one of European football’s more recognised clubs in PSV to boast on his CV, but his career has been on a downwards trajectory ever since leaving Eindhoven in 2012. Yes, those statisticians out there will rightly point out he went on to make more than 100 appearances in the Dutch top flight – the majority of those while at Willem II – but so did Edwin de Graaf, and look how his short tenure in Leith turned out. Bluntly, if Ojo doesn't want to be at Hibs, then they've dodged a bullet. Ojo may go on to be a star for Aberdeen for many years to come, but Hibs may not lose too much sleep over this one. To continue Heckingbottom's relationship analogies, there are plenty more fish in the sea. /Not bitter That's the toys well and truly out of the pram. Amazing bitterness, as Hibs become Aberdeen's bitches once again.
Muzza81
Surely you still only have 4 options in the middle of the park and considering you play a 3 a lot that isn’t too many (all based on Gleeson getting binned). Ferguson faded last season as he was overused so could definitely do with most rest. Campbell/Ferguson/Bryson/Ojo doesn’t seem like enough.

Hedges, Wright and Ethan Ross can all play in front of a 2 man CM so we've got that option.

gudge1903
Reading between the lines McInnes will be working on finding May and Gleeson new clubs and replacing both. Wouldnt be surprised to see us go back in for Bostock on loan and if Morrison fancies Scotland then I'm sure Deek will better any offer outside Glasgow for him or similar type. Euro football is a big lure if squad is good enough also the fact we don't do relegation will see sensible heads turned our way as well as recent cup and league performances prove. Then it's win bonuses, we play more games on average than anyone else outside Glasgow, so more bonuses, more games to play and just an all round bigger club than what's available in Edinburgh. 2 out and 2 in and job done. big al
Let’s be honest, nobody really knows of this Funzo guy is even any good. May not even end up being a starter.
gudge1903
When Gleeson goes there will be another DM brought in possibly one who can cover at CB I'm sure just incase Ojo isn't up to it or gets legs broken in a hibbee tantrum. Same if and when May leaves there will be another attacking player whether that's a number 9 or a 10 who can drop back into cm like Morrison. The squad looks strong but I'm sure the gaffer knows we could lose one or more of Cosgrove, Ferguson and Mckenna. Makes sense for last two signings whether loans or not to be there to cover two positions each. Hence I think Bostock and Morrison rumours might have something in them. I'd take Mulumbo on a permanent deal now instead of Bostock but the latter is a better age. Could easily be Pittman (also a better age but would require a fee) instead of Morrison who can play AM and CM. A wee bit tweaking still to be done. But two players off a cracking squad at this stage is good going. If clubs ambitions are achieved (reaching europa league groups) then we would be playing 2 games a week till Christmas at least.

anotherchance
Ojo sounds like the exact type of players we’ve been missing since J**k left.Part of the reason we were so long ball last season was because Forrester and Gleeson were signed as ball players but flopped. We have players who can play now, so fingers crossed it works out and the style of play evolves too.
G-MAN
Morrison in, get Hoban fit (albeit with risk) and that is some squad. Am I being too greedy wanting Cosgrove sold and a new striker in ?
gannonball
Funso Ojo reminds me of one those fake players names on Pro Evo and you can’t figure out who the real player is meant to be.

Greedy, can’t see a final pass. Powderpuff and pushed about too easy. Would fit right in at Ayr. Get off the wage bill.

He's still young with tonnes of potential, and if you think we can get a better player than him for that sort of money i'll have some of whatever you're on.
