My wife is from Glasgow and she finds visiting there amazing and also a bit surreal about how quiet it is. I was a lot earlier than that. Went to Kinker primary before being forced to move further south by my parents just before secondary. Brought into this world as a Dons fan when it was inconceivable that we’d even ever play in Europe in the pre-Turnbull era. Just happy to have a few wins every season and finish mid table at best. A bit like St Johnstone nowadays, I suppose.

We were staying in the erstwhile Kincardineshire (was then called Aberdeenshire but I'm all for the continuing of historic names) and did often pass through 'Kinker' to either buy petrol or tobacco as there's little else going on... Kinker is actually in historic Aberdeenshire. Kincardineshire ends about 4 miles east before you reach it on the A93. .......and yes, the wee shop there is nirvana of a Saturday morning (the garage is closed as the guy retired last year aged about 106). Chinese is very good, but remains 'cash only'. As for the new house building - there are apparently 6,000 properties in the ASPC - average in years gone by was around a quarter that - but still new builds pop up everywhere around City and Shire - will the bubble burst by the time we need to sell Pittodrie? RussellAnderson
I know it pales into insignificance for those Top Reds who were actually there, but Malone’s in Edinburgh was fucking carnage the night of that game. Probably only about 20 Dandies in that massive back room but one hell of a bounce.

logie skid boys
Nearly every red thought it was great signing when May arrived .its nae worked out and it’s nothing do with opportunities or formations. he’s lost that yard sharpness around the box. injuries have taken this away. big result if he’s terminated contract . Give his all in every game and he played his part in some big wins last year. . but his best days behind him. one thing is he will still do a job with his workrate so will be a big asset for saints . . but moving him on this window is good news . maybe give Anderson more of an opportunity now.

DukDukGoose
It's a shame it didn't work out for him. Gave 100% every game but just doesn't have it anymore. You can think of countless times when he's clean through on goal and fluffed his lines. Wish him all the best except when he's playing us.
d31
If we do get May and Gleeson off the books what sort of player would you like to see coming in instead?
gannonball
Im surprised Aberdeen have totally cut their losses with him considering their investment in him. I didn't think he was that bad last season just not the player we once knew. Would have thought a loan back at Saints would have been worth trying first to get his confidence back.

For what he was offering, Main will do the same job on less wages. That's not to suggest Main is a better player.
aDONisSheep
Genuinely disappointed, he was a fine player for us, just couldn't get the number goals we expected from him. I'm not sure I'll be able to boo him when he returns. I'll give it a go, but it will be half hearted. Yours, aDONis

Tbf other managers persevere more with high profile signings to try and save face but at least McInnes seems to have the stones to realise it was an error.
d31
It's a sore one and an expensive deal but has it really been a disaster? Valuable part of the squad over the last two years: Qualified for europe twice One cup final Two more semi finals Runner up in the league

He's let a few players go quickly when it's not worked out. Stuck this one out longer than usual. Perhaps shows he was doing a job for the team but an expensive one at that.

ScottishZizou
I think that’s where the problem lies. May was doing a job for us but with the wages he was on doing a job wasn’t really enough. I think it’s tough to criticise McInnes too much for the signing. If you conducted a poll of Aberdeen fans at the time I reckon 95% were happy with the signing. I know we aren’t managers etc but it seemed logical he would do alright. Cosgrove and Main being our striker options both scares me and thinks we have a plan. I think we are a better team when we have someone who is a foil up there and makes it easier for other guys to play. Think France in the World Cup, Giroud was by no means one of their 11 best players but they were a much better team with his presence. Clearly McInnes thinks the best way to get everything out of McGinn, Hedges, McLennan etc is to have someone that occupies defenders with a presence. I actually have gone full circle on Cosgrove and think he’s quite good. For as much chances as he misses, I’ve never seen a striker have as many chances as he manages to get. Possibly that’s the result of the team but I think he’s just become one of those guys who manages to find themselves in great positions. Just because he’s not glamorous I wouldn’t discount him. Still in Europe and let’s hope for a couple deep cup runs plus a finish near the top of the table. Still a couple things to play for come late April next year and I’m happy.
