HibeeJibee
Interesting. I suspect there's a confusion over what finished when, rather than an extra completed edition. You've got a Final teamsheet dated 28th April 2010? Does it explicitly say 2009-10 edition? I was going in the main by the series of results carried in the Scottish Non-League Review since 2009-10. I also have an (incomplete) scratch listing of ties I've kept myself since the later 2000s, plus I had some correspondance with the Forfarshire FA around then, though I may long since have lost the E-mail. You've got that list of results from the Scottish Football Historical Archive website but surely there's an error in its listings. There weren't 2 Forfarshire Cup finals, both on 28th April, both featuring Brechin & Montrose, both finishing 2-1 to Brechin, 2 seasons running? Surely? EDIT: Brechin's website has archive results back to 2005-06, with Forfarshire Cup ties included since 2007-08. It certainly has a game on 28th April 2009 - Final, Montrose 1-2 Brechin, but at Links Park not the Glebe: http://www.brechincity.com/bcfc/servlet/BCFCFrontControllerServlet?action=match&page_id=246&category=2 but none in 2009-10: http://www.brechincity.com/bcfc/servlet/BCFCFrontControllerServlet?action=FixtureList&category=2&season=2009/10 Your teamsheet is definetely from spring 2010, not spring 2009? EDIT AGAIN: There was definetely a Final finishing 2-1 to Brechin at Links Park on 28th April 2009 as here's previews, reports and galleries, and even a visit from a groundhopper: http://www.brechincity.com/bcfc/servlet/BCFCFrontControllerServlet?action=News&page_id=675&category=2 http://www.brechincity.com/bcfc/servlet/BCFCFrontControllerServlet?action=News&page_id=679&category=2 http://www.brechincity.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=1503 http://www.montrosefc.co.uk/Match%20Reports%2008-09/montrosevbrechincity280409.html http://www.montrosefc.co.uk/Lineups%2008-09/montrosevbrechincity280409.html http://groaninjock.blogspot.co.uk/2009/04/season-20082009-match-24-montrose-v.html Brechin & Montrose also definetely met in a R1 tie on Saturday 17th July 2010, in 2010-11's edition. I think you are right my friend. The SFHA does say the match I referred to was 2009/10 but the date on the teamsheet is 28 April 2009 which is clearly in the 2008/9 season when the SFHA says there was no competition. Equally though I don't think the 28/4/09 game was a carry over from the 2007/8 season as I'm fairly sure Brechin also played Montrose in the final at Glebe Park in April of that season as well. As you say the two clubs also played in an early round in 2010/11 when Brechin won 4-0. What we certainly do know is that Montrose played Brechin in the final on 28/4/2009 at Links Park but which season's competition? Not only is the competion a shambles but it seems now that the results are in a mess as well. Oh well, I suppose we'll still be in it even when we are in the Highland League as that is surely where we will end up if not next season then the one after unless a sugar daddy unexpectedly finds his way to LP though I suspect there might just be an unexpected contender for bottom spot this season - we shall see. bmccoll
the 2007-2010 period does need looked at again, there are a couple games listed in twice, so it's a no brainer there so I'll try and correct it tomorrow! I'm getting back into the process of maintaining the site after publishing my book on British Wartime Football (available from LULU.COM... PLUG) and just generally taking a break! HibeeJibee
Certainly, I have the results as follows (and having now looked at yours I think you just have the SF & Final stage results of 2007-08 repeated in 2008-09's listing?): 2007-08 ended in April of 2008-09 28 Apr 2009 - Final - Montrose 1-2 Brechin 2008-09 no competition due to 2007-08 overrunning 2009-10 8 Sep - R1 - Forfar 2-2 St Johnstone (5-4 on penalties) 13 Oct - SF - Forfar P-P Brechin 9 Feb - SF - Forfar P-P Brechin no other ties completed, competition abandoned 2010-11 17 Jul - R1 - Brechin 4-0 Montrose 14 Sep - R1 - Forfar 0-2 Dundee Utd 12 Oct - SF - Dundee Utd 1-2 St Johnstone no other ties completed, competition abandoned 2011-12 played under new age rules - ended in August of 2013-14 17 Nov - R1 - Dundee 0-3 Montrose 22 Nov - R1 - Dundee Utd 3-1 Arbroath 21 Mar - SF - Forfar 0-1 Dundee Utd 2 May - R1 - Brechin 0-0 St Johnstone (1-3 on penalties) 8 May - SF - Montrose 0-4 St Johnstone [HOx2] - Final - 27 Aug 2013 - Dundee Utd 1-1 St Johnstone (2-4 on penalties) - 2012-13 & 2013-14 no competitions due to 2011-12 overrunning If you contact St Johnstone, they will presumably be able to tell you what winners are engraved when - although I also know from the experience of seeing the East of Scotland Shield at Hibs that this itself is not necessarily 100% fullproof, as it relies on the local FA official (or the club) avoiding mistake or trying to "cover up" missed years. ecto
Would be an interesting Cup if a Junior team was invited each year to compete. Carnoustie Panmure, Tayport and Lochee United would be some good additions to the cup. That way no team is byed. yes lets add Tayport, a Fife team too 4 clubs from Angus, 2 from Dundee City and 1 from Perthshire, so no idea why it is still called the Forfarshire Cup

invergowrie arab
Surely Arbroath and Montrose could organise a game at an hour's notice. Hurry up I have holidays to book and wouldn't want to miss a semi final.

Hurry up I have holidays to book and wouldn't want to miss a semi final. We don't have an under 19 team this season so this thing is genuinely just a waste of time hope we ask for a bye if our title chance season is disrupted cause Linn takes an injury in a Forfarshire cup game I'll be suicidal
Glasgow Loon
From the Loons OS:- Forfar Athletic will play a St. Johnstone X1 in the semi final of the Forfarshire Cup at Station Park on Tuesday January 20th with a 7.30p.m. kick off. Lichtie78
Still no news of Arbroath vs Montrose, bit of a joke tbh. Play it as a pre season cup IMO
lionel hutz
Still no news of Arbroath vs Montrose, bit of a joke tbh. Play it as a pre season cup IMO The problem with this is that United and Saints will probably have European commitments.
