Celtic European Campaign 2014-15

It would sum up the luck of the Old Firm, if Celtic got this overturned on the strength of a 2 minute appearance when trailing 6-1; just as Rangers got nothing overturned after years of fielding dozens of improperly registered players over hundreds of matches.

Rangers died is that not punishment enough?

UEFA have only fined a team before for a similar incident (debrecen fielded an illegible player when 4-1 on aggregate at home in the final minutes)

will be interesting to see what they do now that they have set a precedent beforehand

Incorrect, the guy in question simply wasnt registered for the match, not serving a suspension.

Thats your precedent right there.

What's the Sion incident then?

We lost 4-1 altogether but they fielded 4 or 5 ineligible players so we got the 3-0 win and went into the Europa League

What's the Sion incident then?

3 years ago (I think) Sion fielded 5 ineligible players against Celtic, they signed them during a transfer ban for something which had actually happened 3 years previously but UEFA were just punishing them for it then. They also got a 34 point deduction in the Swiss league that season for the same thing.

Illegible? Just because you can't read the guy's name does not mean he should be banned.

Difference between ineligible and banned.

Fans of the team formerly known as Rangers in full blown twitter melt down

 This is embarrassing.

But I couldn't a flying f**k

Same.

We've already been humiliated. Let's just try and snide our way into the groups and we can sit, humiliated, atop our CL millions.

Win/win

We get our millions and the rest of Scottish football will be backing us for the coefficient points

It'll be a massive win for Lawwell, deals likely already in motion for Forster and Van Dijk to bring in significant cash. If Celtic benefit from a mistake on Legias part it guarantees European football as the play off round gives us group stages of champions league or Europa league.

As far as I can see the player in question (Bartosza Beresyznski) was ineligible as he wasnt named in the squad for the St Pats tie. Can't see how Legia will get around this.

This is the squad they named for the Second Round, and its from the official Legia Warsaw website. Beresyznski isn't in it. So he should've been suspended for the two games against Celtic when named in the squad.

Legion staff for the second round of the Champions League elimination:

Goalkeepers: 1. Luke Budziłek, 12 Dusan Kuciak, 91 Konrad Jałocha

Defenders: 2. Doss Junior, 4 Igor Lewczuk, Inaki Astiz 15th, 17th Tomasz Brzyski, Jacob Rzeźniczak 25th, 28th Lukasz Broz

Midfielders: 3. Tomasz Jodłowiec, 8 Ondrej Duda, Michał Kucharczyk 18th, 20th Jakub Kosecki, 21 Ivica Vrdoljak, 22 Michael Kopczynski, 23 Helio Pinto, 32 Miroslav Radović, 33 Michal Gyro

Forwards: 9. Marek Saganowski, 11 Arkadiusz Piech, 13th Wladimer Dwaliszwili, Adam Ryczkowski 45th, 70th Orlando Sa

There is actually

Article 14:

* A match is declared forfeit if a player who has been suspended following a disciplinary decision participates in the match.

* A match may be declared forfeit if a player who is ineligible under the regulations of the competition concerned participates in the match, as long as the opposing club files a protest.

It all comes down to wither or not he was registered for the St.Pats tie to serve the 1st 2 games of the suspension. All indications point to that he was not thus he didnt serve any of the 3 game ban. The rules above make it pretty clear that if he has played when he should have been suspended, the only possible outcome is to forfeit the match 3-0.

It would be a joke if it happened but would take it if it happened.

As said he never played against St Patricks Athletic. Was his illegibilty by suspension or non registration? The wording MAY BE is important and if Celtic also files a protest (knowing Peter Lawwell he would jump at the opportunity)

If suspension then Legia don't have a chance. But if non registered then they can claim admin error
